Some say it's Chicago. I live here and I can say there certainly are thousands of them. I haven't eaten at even 1/3 of them, but so far they've been pretty good. What city do think has had the best food / dining experience that you've visited or lived in?

Where I'm at now of course Chicago, but then I wrote this piece about LA despite myself

Had amazing deep dish pizza at Genos in Chicago...
Had amazing semi-Chinese at the China Grill in NYC...
Had astounding seafood crepes at Petunia's in New Orleans (I hope it's still there post-hurricane)...
There are so many great places around the country, the world. You narrow it down to just one, you miss out.

Petunia's is located in the French Quarter, the highest ground in the city of New Orleans.
It is still listed in the local phone book. The website is here:

Maybe the question should be expanded.
Where's the best American food
Where's the best SOUL food (yeah I know it's a subculture of American but...)
Where's the best Euro International (wouldn't Disney win that one?)
Where's the best Asian
And then maybe where's the best out of all those combined.
As good as NY is (where I lived for 10 years) I still feel San Francisco covers so much ground. But now that Chicago has had a huge Latin and Asian influx we really have gotten a broader pallet than our normal strong showing for American and Soul. And even though I lied in Tokyo I liked the food better in Korea! -
Can we get some hollering for San Francisco! You name it, we have it and we'll throw in some Sourdough too. How about chowder in a sourdough bowl; Italian in North Beach; a crab sandwich on the coastside; artichoke and green chille soup and lollaberry pie at Duartes; or authentic Mexican in the mission? Maybe you want vegetarian or vegan cuisine? What about tapas and fondue? SF is an amazing city for culturally diverse, delectable dining.

Ok so I stand informed Bass.
At any rate, at least informally, I'd say NYC is going to be the winner, with Paris coming in 2nd (or more precisely French speaking places).
And Geno's Pizza coming in 3rd hahaha. You know, you can get those in the grocery store now. I PROMISE you it is the best frozen pizza you'll ever buy. -
Ever tasted Indian food?tamil nadu and andhra rock in terms of taste...pay a visit to India ..ull knw

Alright! I was afraid things were winding down. MadameX I'm sure rc will join me and thank for tossing Chicago a nod.
And rc, Bourdain has been surprised a lot on that show. You see the finale, when he thought he could still handle the kitchen?
Anyway John Chow went out to dinner in Vancouver last night and the food pix are AMAZING. Everybody knows the URl right? -
I would have to say NYC. You can get the best pizza there! I have been to 40 of the 50 states in the US, Montreal Canada and England. I would definitely say NY. Unless you like buffets, then I would say the casinos in Atlantic City. They are the best buffets, the Borgata better be for $30 a person-lol

I still go with Cape Town
I lived in London for fives years and it also have excellent food - depends where you go, keep away from the tourist attractions as you'll be over charged and the food will be thrown together... but if you are willing to walk off the beaten track then you'll find some lovely restaurants... I can think of three or four in Soho right now

I'd go for Penang. A multi cultural multi cuisine.

London has the best and most diverse choice of food in any city in the world. But the flip side of the coin is that London is also home to some of the worst palces to eat that you could ever imgaine. It is all down to research and staying away from the tourist traps, but then again some tourists wouldn't know what great food tasted like.
