I haven't seen any of the films nominated for Best Picture, but I'm rooting for Juno. It's incredible that an indie film was nominated, and I'd love to see it win, rather than one of the high budget studio films.

Juno was really good. It's one of the few films I've seen where the hype is deserved. One word I use to describe it is "genuine".

No Country For Old Men was great, beyond great, but far too violent to win the oscar... look for Atonement for best film. Juno was a loved Indie, but not enough next to Atonement. Best actress will be Julie Christie for Away From Her, and best actor will be Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood. Hands down, supporting actor is Javier Bardem in No Country... scary performance. Best director should go to the Coen Brothers, but again, may be too dark for the suits. Supporting actress is tough, could be Cate Blanchette, Tilda Swinton or Ruby Dee, depends on how sentimental everyone is feeling.I think it's stupid to put musicals with comedy. Juno deserves props, but too indie to pull through. Lisbethpicksflick.blogspot.com

How is a movie too indie? What does that mean? I haven't studied film or the industry so this question is just from someone that likes movies.

Good question. Indie is short for independant films... they don't have the money and sometimes big stars in their films because they can't afford them. El Mariachi, the first of Robert Rodrigez' series( Desparado and Once Upon A Time In Mexico) initially cost $7000 to make. Director 'Rodriguez, Robert' raised $3,000 of the $7,000 by volunteering to be a human "laboratory rat". He was used to test a cholesterol reducing drug. Paid $100 a day for 30 days, he wrote most of the script while locked in the lab. (Taken from IMDB) Probably more than you asked for.

Indie films also draw smaller crowds. Think Live Free or Die Hard versus Juno. One was a great big Hollywood blockbuster and the other a sweet, funny movie that most people heard about by other people. Until nominated, Juno had a run at the smaller theaters. I hope that answers your question! Love to answer any movie questions! I don't know it all, but I do live and breathe it!

LOL... Well I knew what indie movies were. What kind of movie fan would I be if I didn't? :-P I was asking what "too" indie meant. But I see your point. It's ashame, because Juno got a lot of people through word-of-mouth, you'd think that would count for something. But aside from this movie, I haven't seen any of the other contenders. I've been pissed at the Oscars since "Titanic" won everything.

Sorry, I obviously don't get many people asking me to discuss movies! LOL 2:-)... I agree and am too disappointed... there are too many politics going on and the public usually doesn't agree with the Academy, or vice versa. I used to be a huge Oscar fan, getting together with friends and making our picks beforehand... but now I get upset when the "best" is not awarded. The Coen Brothers should win for direction and movie. Old Country is very dark... really very dark (almost hoprror film like) and they should get best movie, but Atonement is far less bloody. I used to work for a law firm and the explanation was what is fair may not be legal. So I take the awards with a huge grain of salt and hope for an underdog.

I've never been so pleased to be wrong! Hurray for the Coen brothers, and if you haven't seen it, be sure to catch No Country For Old Men (Rather than Old country-arg!)
