    1. Shiley
That's what I was going to say! The dirty stuff is what I hate. Not all of it is bad just most of it.
    2. timethief
The gansta rap or whatever it's called that is full of cursing and angst is the kind I dislike.
    3. Shiley
It's all phony. What kind of person rhymes postulate and procreate? I mean come on. These people are college students not "gangstas."
    1. timethief
liar, liar - pants on fire!
    2. cookingasshole
      yeah that stuff is terrible
    3. Simboy
What the hell is that anyway?
  5. celticmusicfan
ok. i used to hate rap but after learning that rappers love to sample Enya's Boadicca(with permission) then I give them credit for that. Publicity is still publicity no matter what means it is

    @CA yeah it is terrible.
    1. timethief

I try to keep an open mind. There are some genre's I'm not that comfortable with, but sometimes some track in that genre can really blow you off your feet. So I tend to relax my opinion about labeling music styles too much, as it just tends to get in the way usually.

That being said, the only evil thing in the music business is french rap.
    1. celticmusicfan
I need to hear that one out!
  7. wagerwitch
I like just about everything --- but I don't prefer twang country.
    1. SweetViolet
I'm not sure what "twang" country is.

I like a lot of the oldies, like Hank Williams Sr. in "Lovesick Blues" it even has yodeling!

I don't like ear-piercing sopranos, I don't like rolling bass thunder that makes my car shudder when I'm not even playing it, I don't like "compadre" music with accordians and blazing horns...although I do like a good mariachi band. Polka music sends me running from the room, and anything misogynistic, regardless of genre earns my disdain, along with music that advocates violence in any form.

I like bhangra but not Chinese music, which I find discordant. I don't like bubblegum pop and I hold a special dislike for people like Madonna, Britney, Xtina, Lady GaGa and others who have set women back decades by seducing little girls into seeing their primary value as being in their looks and sexual appeal to males. I won't buy their products.

If I have to choose just one genre as my most despised, it would have to be gangsta rap....rap in general, gangsta rap in particular.
    2. dcarroll
I think Wager is probably referring to "prune twang" the astronauts breakfast drink.
    3. SweetViolet
I didn't know there was an "r" in that word! Or that astronauts had it for breakfast. Seems more like midnight snack material to me...
    4. dcarroll
Astronauts are more co-ed now than they were.
Also, it is usually dark in space so it probably seems like a midnight snack thing everywhere.
  8. morinn
Hip Hop and all those crap that are NOT metal.
    1. daystar377
      cool babe!! agree with you..
  9. mademoiselleparis
Drum n bass and gangsta rap!
    1. daystar377
I agree with you.. gangsta RAP sucks.
  10. legbamel
Hate is far too strong a word, but I am among those who don't see the appeal of the nasal twang and the crappy lyrics involved in much country and western music. There's a fair amount of alt-country that I do like, however. Gangsta rap in general doesn't interest me, but every once in a while a song really catches me and I quite like old-school rap and hip hop from the 80s (even though I wasn't a big fan at the time, being much more deeply involved in New Wave and punk).
  11. nothingprofound
I like bits and pieces of every kind of music, from classical to rap. The only music I absolutely hate is hearing recordings of my own singing. Humiliating and god-awful!
  12. IntoTheAzureSea
I never been a fan of country music melodies, their lyrics aren't all that bad though.
  13. firerobin
    Hmmm ... bluegrass.
    1. legbamel
Some bluegrass is actually fantastic, but there is an awful lot of jangly, twangy, "Dueling Banjos", stereotypical crud in the genre, as well. Not as bad as manufactured boy bands, but still bad.
    2. timethief
        @firerobin & legbamel
I'm not up on country music at all. Will you please post a couple of links to bluegrass music that you like so I understand what you mean?
    3. celticmusicfan
I love blue grass.it has a lot of rich history behind it. Most of the stuff i like are those of Bela Fleck.
    4. legbamel
Here's Old Crow Medicine Show doing Wagon Wheel, a version that I really like. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2vJUadjdmo There's also a great video of them doing Tear It Down that's is a lot of fun. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM2Ku0lmvWs Most "successful" bluegrass bands are based on good musicianship and ability to perform traditional songs/standards. I may not enjoy the twang in the vocals on the latter video, but I have to respect the fact that they certainly can play (and that they look like they're enjoying themselves immensely).
  14. stellak
I hate this mexican type of music called grupera, it awful!
  15. Friday13
Reggaeton. Good thing it seems to be losing momentum, at least here.
    1. Deray28
Not in latinoamerica :(, I agree with you reggaeton is absolutely hideous!
    2. Friday13
I am in Latin America. More specifically, the Dominican Republic.

I'm not hearing reggaeton as often as merengue and salsa. A few years back, it was the other way around. It seems people here are finally coming to their senses.
    3. stellak
since you are in RD, what are your thoughts on bachata?
    4. Friday13
I don't mind bachata. It's not really what I listen to, but I don't dislike it.
  16. greencurmudgeon
Barry Manilow and all his works. A curse upon them.
    1. Stillthinking
      *sings*

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl. With yellow feathers in her hair and a skirt that's up to there.
  17. aningeniousname
    I hate:
Deathmetal, well any kid of metal really.
90 per cent of dance music
Modern R and B and hip hop.
Any rapping except PJ and Duncan (psyche!)
95 per cent of chart music
Celine Dion and all her caterwauling ilk.
and any song that has a book/film/CD tie in deal.
    1. legbamel
Ballads wherein the overrated singer inserts three trills for every fourth note, either because he or she cannot hold said note or because he or she thinks that listeners will be impressed. Pop singers who hold notes for five bars of vibrato because they think it makes them sound like an opera diva (or opera singers who can't control that vibrato and inflict a high e flat on you that makes your ears bleed).
    2. aningeniousname
      Specially Glaswegian Italian balladeers.
    3. Deray28
Yes, I hate when they do that. That's why I don't like Xtina or Leona Lewis, they have amazing voices but they over-do every single song!
    4. legbamel
Anin, the ballads of such are, indeed, to be avoided.
  18. amybyrd21
Anything but disco. It make me want to puke. I will listen to any other kind of music. I have a large collection and it ranges from classical to jazz to rand b to country. But I sill not ever getuse to disco. It sucks.
    1. greencurmudgeon
Believe it or not, we are close to the 30th anniversary of the infamous "Disco Demolition Night", which occurred in Chicago on July 12, 1979:

Angry music (like metal, or gangsta rap). If you're that angry, count to ten, see a therapist or deal with it, but don't scream at me about. You'll only wreck your vocal cords.
There is lots of music that makes me hurl, like country ballads, but anger in music takes the biscuit.
  20. IndigoWrath
Well, I don't HATE it, but I have to go with one of your first choices; Reggae. Just doesn't do anything for me.

Not crazy about opera either, but that may be that I've never given it a fair go.
  21. melindaville
I really hate the whiny country stuff.
  22. acousticguitarist
    Great, I have a Reggae blog. :-)

I'm going to write a techno piece and send it to you, it will only take 4 minutes to write, mix and upload

I hate all music, especially acoustic guitar. Music sucks, musicians are stupid and all musical instruments should be melted
    1. melindaville
      I concur.

      You rascal you!
    2. nothingprofound
Acoustic and I finally agree on something. Music is the dregs.
  23. acousticguitarist
Well to be honest with you, music is a gift from the Gods, it has so much potential to influence our emotions.

I'm grateful to have ears that can hear.

I don't like much music that goes faster than a heartbeat, it's bad for the health. Some distortion is very uncomfortable for my ears, the sound waves are very jagged and fractured.

It takes great skill to make good quality music and there's usually 1% of music I like in any style.

I've been fortunate to play Blues, Jazz, Heavy Metal, Rock, Funk, Classical, Irish Music, Country, Folk, free form, Classical Indian music and other styles, and during those times enjoyed all of it... based on that, I find this post very hilarious
  24. celticmusicfan
I believe that all music no matter how 'avant garde' should still follow the 'formula' which we can call musical. I agree with acousticguitarist on this one since I too am exposed to a lot of musical style including world/ethnic music.
  25. ArsenicCookies
Most rap, 99% of country, techno, pop punk, r&b, elevator music, and smooth stuff
  26. Epicharis
I would normally say HipHop, but music that I hate so much I can't tolerate it at all is screamy-shouty metal music...if I accidentally click a link and it starts playing I launch myself at my speakers to stop it!
  27. Stillthinking
I have to say that I like some stuff from virtually every genre of music. I like some rap (2pac). I like classic country (Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline). I like some glam rock heavy metal (Queen, Kiss). I like some technopop. I like some jazz (mostly swing and big band). There is really no genre of music I "hate".
