Which one will you prefer- A site like wordpress.com or Full admin previlegde subdomain

I am building a site right now and I need your honest suggestion on this.
Which one will you prefer.
A free limited sub domain blog like those provided by wordpress.com
# Quick instant blog set up
or
A full admin privileged sub domain, where you can customize your own theme.
# Approval of Admin in 2-3 days.

My blog is on Typepad. I paid The Blog Squad to professionally set it up so it would look right and be connected to all the directories etc. I am a NON techie. However, now that I'm writing, the 'Comments' is so hard to find that the people who know me send me emails. My idea was not to just write, but to get feedback and other stories that I would never have heard. I still have not heard them. I do like to be able to do my own theme however. If I was a techie, I would move the blog to another site where 'Comments' is readable and right underneath each posting. www.NobodysDead.com -
Some say wordpress is awesome. Indexing is ready good.
Should we upgrade to paid wordpress site?
