1. Which social networking sites (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace) drive traffic to your blog?
2. Is the traffic significant?
3. How are you attracting traffic from those sites to your blog?

I get a handful of daily hits from LinkedIn, Facebook and BlogCatalog. I rarely get any visitors from Twitter, MyBlogLog or other social networking sites.

I have not really found a decent mechanism to drive traffic from those sites to my blog. Any feedback would be great.

I actually get a lot of my traffic from Myspace. More so then, Facebook, Blog Cat. or Zimio.

I will check out Zimio. I found MySpace too SPAMMY and littered with dating inquiries. lol.

Myspace has done very little for my blog, I would say Facebook provides more results at the moment simply due to the demographic it serves. People that use Facebook are more often blog readers than the younger demographic which uses Myspace. Twitter is becoming very popular, often people will discover your micro-blogs there and then check out your actual blog for more details. Linked In is only good for blog traffic if you have a lot of friends, but you can't become friends with someone on LinkedIn unless you known them from the past. So not worth your time. BlogCatalog provides more links for me than any other blog network that is for sure. I also get a lot of people who follow or subscribe to my blog and read it daily or almost daily. However, a great deal of your traffic will come from proper SEO, you must rank well in the search engines if you want people to find you. And that takes an investment of time and patience, experimenting to see what works best for you. Best of luck.
Cheers!! I hope you check out my blog as well:)

It's all in what you put in. I put in more effort at BlogCatalog and thus most of my traffic comes from here.

I regard social networking sites as reinforcing the marketing of the blog. Mine has a "fan page" on Facebook, which has driven some traffic my way.

You have something against black people? I made a validrrespectful comment and you removed it.

I post my blogs in MySpace as people there tend to just read them there rather than jump to external links (probably because of the "scary message about the outside world" that MySpace puts in every link). I keep doing it because I'd say about 40% of my total traffic is on MySpace.

I link my blog to Facebook and get a number of hits everyday through that. I just put it out on FriendFeed, but I haven't seen any traffic directly related from that yet.

    1. Which social networking sites (i.e. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace) drive traffic to your blog?

No. You need to get down with the bookmarking sites.. Digg reddit delicious etc. This is where I get 99% my traffic

    2. Is the traffic significant?

On days I don't promote I see about 50 hits. On days I promote I get hundreds (My blog is very new, 3 months old)

    3. How are you attracting traffic from those sites to your blog?

Submit ENTRIES, not the whole blog at once.. just submit articles as you write them. This is how it's done.

    ----

You'll eventually build an organic following of readers that simply like what you write about. But for now you need the 'traffic' and the readers will filter out eventually.

BC is great because were all bloggers! That means we all have the power to give links, which is important for SEO. You say you have SEO covered - you means onsite SEO. Good job.

Your SEO work is never done. You need linkbacks, submit articles and trade links with RELEVANT blogs.. deep link if possible. This is more important than any promoting you will do on social sites.

Digg gets 60million pageviews a day, reddit comes in second for these types of sites with 20million. If you are starting from scratch jump on both of them, and if you want to invest your time, jump on Mixx.. Mixx is new and small, but unlike Digg with some time and effort you can make FP.

I just followed you~ I'm @rebeccahaswrote on twitter. I enjoy twitter for what it is. A simple social site that doesn't take a lot of work.

I think it depends on the type of blog which you have. Each social network is geared to a different type of person.

Linkedin is a professional network. Facebook is more academic. Myspace has a lot of music blogs on it. Technorati has a lot of technical and environmental blogs. They all have different strengths and weaknesses. Twitter is an interactive network where you have to spend time every day posting and interacting a bit or you will get very little traffic.

I was surprised when I checked analytics earlier this week because most of my traffic came from myspace and I haven't posted there in a long time.

    Traffic is funny sometimes.

Until now I still don't know how i get traffic to my blog. Sad but I really don't know how to figure it out. I belong to a lot of social sites and bookmarking so I don't know which one is the most effective.
You know what really annoys me? The double posts that show up on my Facebook and Tumblr account cuz of FriendFeed and Twitter. They get broadcasted 2 to 3 times from 3 different aggregations.
    Any suggestion? Thanks.

I GOT TRAFFIC FROM FEEDBURNER AND MY BLOG-LOG
  14. CaesarRomaus
Twitter hands down. BlogCatalog only reaches other bloggers who tend to just worry about their own traffic.

I get about 1,000 visits per week from Twitter.

Digg Mixx work as do some feeds like feedcat.net also don't forget to use forums. I made comments on makemeheal.com back in December and I still get traffic.

My portuguese example: I get a lot of traffic from Hi5 and Orkut through their themed groups, the 2 main portuguese and brazilian social communities. Also you may want to try and join some Yahoo Groups. Also, a very good tip is joining Yahoo Answers. Everytime you answer a question (try to know the answer first) your blog becomes visible. Hope my tips helped.

My signature box might help you a little, shad0w. Also, I created groups (www.twibes.com/group/RONsociaLOG and www.twibes.com/MicroBLOGgers)on Twitter...pls. feel free to stop by and join? Take it easy man.

Nothing can drive you much traffic , but I think you should use Twitter, that is the great way to get the big amount of traffic if you have a lot of followers.
Follow me here twitter.com/zendersto and then every day you will get new and cool tip for traffic. For example , do you want to get thousands of twitter followers just within some days? It is all here my friend zenplate.blogspot.com/2009/04/one-way-to-get-thousands-of-twitter.html

Porn Sites or more specifically tasteful art nude directories.
I was listed a few months ago and the hits just went through the roof, not bad for a photo blog. I really don't mind being associated with particular websites as the likes of Terry Richardson and other such photographers are listed too.
And so I have been listed on 3 directories without me knowing, now if only I could get a few more.
On the Twitter front, yes every time you make a shortened url it serves up traffic from third party web sites.
StumbledUpon's new su.pr shortening service looks tempting too.
