Today (I hope it'll be today), I'll be posting an article about something I said to my children (I don't tell what I said)that broke their spirit. Before, I opened my mouth to say what I said I knew that it wasn't the right thing to say; however, I'd become angry and spurted the words out anyway. Instantly wanting to take them back once they were out, but it was already too late.

This month I've been writing on Proverbs and the pursuit of skillful and wise living, so if I didn't know how bad my tongue could tear another person down before I started this series(of course I knew)I surely have been made aware of it since begining it. But I said what I said anyway, in spite of knowing.

So I got to thinking about others who've said things that they knew they shouldn't have said, but in the heat of the moment got caught up in their emotions and let the words go.

Tell your stories. Like me, you may not want to share the specifics, but share enough to be clear on how the other person and you were affected.

For me, I called a friend to tell her and she told me to apologize, which I did. I prayed too, and asked my children to forgive me b/c I was wrong. However, three days later my 14 yr old daughter wrote me a letter about the incident. We discussed it; she cried and told me how she felt.

Okay, I look forward to reading the stories.

Thanks guys.

Yea...I was gonna say"the tongue is mightier than the sword"....
I have done the same thing. I even told my mother I hated her one time. I am pretty sure that is why I have tmj to this day haha...yea she just about knocked the teeth outta my mouth, which I totally deserved.
I have regretted ever since and everytime we have words I'm reminded of what I said when I was 16.

I regrett saying what I did to my children. My daughter said, "Mom I know you apolgize, and I do forgive, but it's still hard knowing that you said it."

Needless to say, I feel like crap.

      Thanks for responding.

Don’t believe that old saying that: “Sticks and stones can break your bones but words can’t hurt you." Words won’t break your bones but they will break your heart and spirit.

We not only live in a physical world, we also live in a mental and spiritual world, too. You take away a persons pride then self-shame will render him practically useless.

I know, I have struggled with self-shame practically all of my life.
