Being rather a fan of Henry Louis Gates documentaries, it was hard for me to believe that he was not instantly recognizable to police... but maybe police officers are more likely to watch Fox News than PBS.

One thing that I noticed was the appearent warrantless entry of Gates' home by Sgt. Crowley. Here is from his own report:

"My reason for wanting to leave the residence was that Gates was yelling very loud and the acoustics of the kitchen and foyer were making it difficult for me to transmit pertinent information"

But why was he in the home to begin with? Was he invited in by the "belligerent" Prof. Gates?
He doesn't describe his entry, yet he somehow ended up in either the kitchen or foyer without any explanation of how this occurred. Is this standard practice, if one has the remotest notion that someone inside the home might possibly be the lawfull resident? The ommission of the details of his entry suggests a discrepancy in his account.

I was shocked when Defense Secretary Gates was arrested. And I never knew he was black either. Or that he did PBS documentaries! When Obama mentioned Gates in his new conference, I understood why he was so upset. His own Defense Secretary was arrested!
