Just curious to see who uses their desktop for the media center programming?

If not... What do you use it for?

I have my HP Desktop hooked up to 46" LG in my living room. I am surprised it's not as common to have the desktop hooked up as it should be....

fz22gq, I have a blog about HDTV/PC connectivity and I've been looking for examples of home setups to post. May I use your photo of your set up and link to your blog?

I have a PC on every TV in the house. The only HD one though is my older 59" Rear Projector CRT via an nvidia card with native composite HD-Out. I recently had to throw more hardware at it (its now a dual Xeon with 4 gb of RAM since I got into stuff encoded via the H.264 codec.

I do hook my computer up to my rear projection tv. I do this not because I think its cool, frankly the quality sucks for everyday use. I do this because I have all my movies backed up onto my harddrive in the avi format and I watch movies through my computer. Its a pretty fantastic thing. Problem is that the avi's are huge and take up atleast 200 gb's. I can't wait to get a lcd tv this year in hopes that the image will be better. I would really love to play World of Warcraft on a large tv.

finally people after my heart.. Definitely feel free to comment on my website so you can let other readers know what kind of hookups you have. I'm truely not overly impressed with other options out there.

Definitely. I have a laptop, but my server is hooked up to my HDTV. Love it.

Nice... Love the sercer at home concept. Is it as simple to do... Can you share the configuration? How robust? Is it Media Canter or Vista capable?

It's an older machine I got for free from my last job. It runs Server 2003 now, because I need Internet Information Server. It could easily run XP (any version), but I won't let Vista near my PCs, and I doubt it meet system requirements for it anyhow. It's not very robust, but it was really only intended as a machine where I could work from home (where I did .NET and c# development).

So do you use it as a "tivo"? I mean do you store TV shows, movies, etc. on it?
    1. Unfettered
Not so much really. I was considering moving my iTunes to that machine, so I could purchase from the store and watch there. The machine does have a huge hard drive, making that feasible. Right now, I DVR stuff on my cable box.

You'll find that media center will blow your cable box away...
It all depends on what you want to spend... but you can blof about $500 to get one... I reccomend one myself on my website... It's the one I baught... It's pretty much ready out of the box. TV in/out and all.
