  6. Tanveer
Honestly, it's just a matter of free time for writing being limited and so, rather than spend it trying to come up with noteworthy blips than mindless drivel. I fail to see why people think we want to read comments about what they ate for dinner. Seriously, who is calling up people during dinner to say 'Hey, I decided to have that turkey loaf after all'? And yet, that's what I see.

I have read that if used properly, it can be a very effective networking tool. But of course, for that to happen, you need to spend time building relationships and rapports. And to do that would take time away from writing for my blog, so . . .

That's my answer. I'm not adverse to using Twitter. Just for now, I don't know enough people who aren't using it for mindless, commuter talking-style conversations and my time is better spent than reading that kind of drivel.
    1. tenshi319
When blogging started they all aid the same thing. Big companies and small are banking out with brand equity. It's not about what you ate for dinner but rather more window into how they can help you, And you can help them. Trust is a big part of blogging creditability. Twitter does just that. It extends your community.Further I think that you can follow who you there are so many bright people using twitter.

The way it works if I find what you talk about interesting I will follow your short content all the way through the link.

Companies using twitter Stocktwits, winetwits and many other new media brands.

I've got 5 accounts now ... one for regular HART aka PetLvr stuff ... one for my HARTmarket stores ... and one strictly for my blip.fm postings of my playlist ... (how boring is that!?)

The other 2 are under development.
    1. jackstcliveblog
      What, 5 accounts?

  12. vijayanths
I have joined twitter but inactive there. I find enough fun and interactions here itself. You have to tell me whether I still need to use it ,if there is something more there.
  13. Thundercatt99

    2. siralmo
i think twitter is shite, honestly i can't keep track of all the msgs im getting from everyone not to mention the the tweets i missed, i'm not at the computer all the time so twitter is not ideal for me
  16. Nomadic
    oh....it's a can of worms.
  17. marylynn
Not much time and no understanding. How best to make it work for a business, that is my question.

Keeping up with social media leaves me no time to write!
  18. AlbertMARKET
I use Twitter because it may be the only feature that some are aware of.
    www.marketopinions.blogspot.com
  19. Tanveer
    @tenshi319

I have no doubt that there are many intelligent people using Twitter. For me, it's just a matter of being selective on which social networks I have time to interact on. I'd rather use Twitter as a means to meet up and get to know others, rather than use it as a place to simply post updates about my blog or to blather about the inane events in my life. I think some people on Twitter don't get that it should be about having a discussion with others than logging your every thought or action irrespective of whether it contributes to any dialogue. And really, what kind of conversation can someone have knowing you ate a bad piece of fish for dinner?

At the end of the day, I think people should just use the means for social communication that they feel most comfortable with.
    1. tenshi319
@Tanver I agree it's to meet new people to find solutions to problems. I think that anyone just posting all there blog post links is wrong. but then you have others that have been down a road you have not been or the other way around.

just like blogging to get others to read your post you have to be on topic and relevant in comments on others blogs. same thing with twitter bring us all closer to relevant info if you know how to use it.

Like take Ray Beckerman our client he own recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com/ we are teaching him about new tools and new blog tech he has blogged since 2004 way before us.

We were showing him how to use twitter to find those talking to him or about him. There were 1-15 people @raybeckerman asking him about Digital copyright law. This is the name of his new blog. he said that priceless to know what is being said so you can join the conversation.
  20. curlydesigh
So not interested. It is too time consuming, maintaining two blogs are enough for me.
    1. Financialnut
It's not time consuming at all. It's just like anything else... what you put into it is what you get out of it.
  21. MadameX
I have a couple of accounts, but very rarely use them--thus far, it just seems pointless.
    1. tenshi319
It's not pointless. Just ahead of its time slightly but closing quickly.
    2. MadameX
I suppose that depends on your goals. I can't see any purpose in it that's worth my time investment, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suit other people's needs.
  22. tenshi319
Of course not it is the same as on Blogcatalog only the text is shorter so if people want to know more they find your blog. Also the twits are the discussion boards.
    1. MadameX
Well, that explains it. I don't "use" BlogCatalog. I come here because there are often interesting discussions. On Twitter, because of the space limitations, that is never the case.
  23. timethief
I don't use twitter for anything aside from posting tinyurl links to my latest posts and chatting with my friends. I don't have the time, energy or inclination to use it as a social networking tool. I'm not at all inclined to become a social network maven who spends all day tweeting and reading little bits & pieces of non-essential re-tweeted material. Did I mention my irritation the noise to sound ratio imbalance? The fact is that the twitter network is full of re-tweets that just keep twittering on.

Is the real ultimate goal of social media to get to the broadcast position?
IMO it's an excellent article that points out how one can and some are already using their social media broadcast position to manufacture authority, "as opposed to having that authority created by a deeper endorsement of their work be it links, subscribers, or sharing of your own content".

      @tenshi
Please allow me to clarify. I do understand how twitter can be used for social networking. I have read everything that's available on the subject, and I have rejected using twitter as a primary tool for social networking. Nothing you write is going to change my mind.

I agree with timethief, how do you network if you don't have anyone you know on there with the exception of joining a group? The tutorial promotes using it to keep in touch with friends. How is keeping in touch with friends all that different from Facebook? Which I do have lots of friends who are on there.
    1. timethief
Heck if you are truly addicted to social media then you can spend all day everyday posting discussion threads the BC General Discussion (social forum), and simultaneously updating your twitter and facebook accounts with links to your discussions as though you are a bigtime celebrity or something --- give me a break! ... lol [she rolls her eyes]

I happen to think my social networking time can be better spent reading blogs, leaving comments on them, and reviewing blogs both for BC and stumbleupon, so that's why I have pruned and why I'm still pruning down my BC favorite blogs.
    2. fearless21
I guess I just don't have that kind of time!
  26. Universaldreamer
I haven't really thought about it as most of my friends don't use twitter. But then it took me ages to get a myspace and a facebook because i didn't like to conform to the masses.
  27. BikiniHotline
I am on Twitter but truthfully, don't spend a whole lot of time on it.
  28. dosox
Don't follow me if u r of this type.

I recently earned $425 in 2 hrs type..
    1. sensico

just not my kind of thing. blogging is way cooler.
  33. LynneaUrania
Twitter is okay for limited use. But only to draw people to regular e-mail and links. It's a real pain to wait for the system to take the message you typed it. Too much time for too little.
  34. joeyblogs
I have JUST signed upto twitter and i cant see anywhere at my profile page to add info!

    twitter.com/joeyblogs

I wont be going back as it just dont seem cool!
    1. BloggersSchool
with this tool you can track if a website status. Like Woopra.com the other day was down and wanted to find out why from their twitter page like anything it's a learning curve the info is out there.

  39. cooltool
twitter is pointless and very dangerous
  40. Cyclenewbie
I understand why its pointless but why is it dangerous?
    1. cooltool
i will let you find it by yourself
  41. LGramlich
I'm not. I'm already trying to pare DOWN on too many pointless accounts (i.e.; I deactivated my FB account yesterday.)
  42. salomey5
Because it starts with a 'T' and I friggin' HATE the letter 'T'.

Kidding aside, I'm not clear on what it does, nor how it can drive traffic to my blog.
Seems to me like yet another instant messenging gadget designed for the cool kids.
But I could be wrong though.
    1. timethief
Oh my ... you hate "T's" ... lol

      video www.howtodothings.com/video/79739835/How-To-Use-Twitter-to-Promote-Your-Blo...

      (1) Promote your blog: use “twitterfeed” to put a post on twitter every time you publish. Twitterfeed takes my site’s RSS feed, grabs the post title and the link, and then it then puts a quick post on Twitter announcing my new blog post. Once you have followers thais will lead to a larger number of referrals and traffic to your blog every time you post.
      (2) Network with other bloggers and to build relationships. Twitter can make you appear to be more approachable because other bloggers may like to feel they can reach out to you at any time.
      (3) Find ideas about subjects to blog about by seeing what other people are talking about. This can be even more helpful if you’re following people in your particular niche.
      (4) Research and feedback - You can ask followers what they think about the subject.
      (5) Use twitter as a mini-blog: write a quick blurb and tweet it
      (6) Find new readers
      (7) Use twitt to collect & tweet links of your favorite articles
    2. timethief
Here's a post on twitter tools you may want to read ustandout.com/index.php/social-media/top-twelve-twitter-tools/
    3. salomey5
Haha, TT, you got me on that one!

Thanks for your advice, but I'm just not sure I'm the right candidate for Twitter, for the following reasons:

"(3) Find ideas about subjects to blog about by seeing what other people are talking about. This can be even more helpful if you’re following people in your particular niche."

Problem is I don't have a niche. I have ten niches. My blog is as disorganized and all over the map as I am in person. Which might explain my poor stats.

"(5) Use twitter as a mini-blog: write a quick blurb and tweet it"

I'm a chronic sufferer of verbal diarrhea. I am desperately long-winded. My blurbs are like four pages long.

"(7) Use twitt to collect & tweet links of your favorite articles"

Huh? Je ne comprends pas... I honestly have no clue what a "tweet link" is.

I'll take a look at the link you provided, might make things clearer.
    4. timethief
This had a typo in it - sorry
Use twitter to collect & tweet links of your favorite articles

A "tweet" is a twitter message. The links from the favorite article you can be "tweeted" to your followers.
  43. Avellar
I love Twitter, I use the twitpic tool for my photos and have it linked to my blog as well.

Follow me if you like at: twitter.com/ZacharyWood
  44. melindaville
I know it can be used productively--but personally, I find it extremely annoying.
  45. jan4insight
Because I don't need another networking site to waste time on.
  46. BloggersSchool
It's not useless it's a tool that if used right can send an instant communication to others who the info matters. Like www.woopra.com was down we found out by going to There twitter page at twitter.com/woopra where we were informed about the migration so we better understood when we could not access their system. This happened Jan 20th I don't know why they have not updated twitter since.

Another point is Ray Beckerman our client who used twitter for a short time. We showed him to search @raybeckerman in a twitter search. He found about seven people asking him questions on Digital Copyright laws.

    recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com/

It's things like this that show you that twitter is where it's at. Top CEOs, big brands and small start ups like all of us are finding it useful. If you don't want to know what someone ate for lunch then don't follow them follow bright stars. Get involved it's not that hard lots more simple then blogging.
  47. sisterofmercy
I've just gotten back into Twitter, it's quite addictive.
