I wasn't sure what category to put this discussion in, because there's some general discussion going on, but also a bit of shameless promotion. Anyways...

I've been reading theonion.com for several years. Basically, it's a fake news publication started about 30 years ago. I really enjoy reading it, and I just wanted to know the community's thoughts about it.

Additionally, if you like The Onion, you might like my fake news blog called Cold Morning Coffee. It's written in a similar style to the Onion, and I hope you find the articles just as funny.

When we first got the internet a few months ago I made the mistake of publishin something about Make A Wish because I just didn't know. I've since put a disclaimer on that blog post.

Oh, was it about the child who bankrupted Make a Wish Foundation by wishing for unlimited wishes? I've heard that several large news stations elsewhere in the world actually reported on that story, not finding out until later that it was fabricated!

Yes that's the one! I'll find the thread for you.

I don't usually read it online, but I enjoy it. When I was working in downtown Chicago, they used to hand out the print edition free on the street.

That would have been nice, to get it for free walking to work...

It's good that you cleared that up for your readers. Just know you weren't the only one to report about that!

I studied journalism if I give false news I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders. I don't do yellow journalism.

You wouldn't make it at people magazine!

Not that I would either; I can't stand that rag.

Lol! I don't read that either.

I used to read it a few years ago, I think it used to be much better, though occasionally they do something worth noting.
I know it is a pretty popular website with college students.
I think as the internet grows the satire you can find written by writers all over the web is increasing and often better than The Onion.
    1. coldmorningcoffee
There certainly is no shortage of internet satire!

I think the Onion is extremely creative and hilarious!

I heard somewhere that their writers collectively pitch 700 ideas, and only about 10-15 get put into the week's edition. That's good quality control, I'd say.

I sometimes pick up the print edition on the train.
