In the top 5 ways to get traffic discussion, I noticed that a bunch of you get traffic from Entrecard. So I went to check it out, signed up, installed one ad space on my blog (ustandout.com), and am trying to figure out the best way to use it.

But now I'm reading about this "black market" for buying and selling credits (so that you can "drop" your ad on other sites), and all the ways to earn credits, and drop cards, and heh, this system seems like a lot of effort.

So my question to you is... will entrecard be a lot of effort for little gain? Is it a scam-ish link exchange? Is the traffic you get from entrecard valuable, or do people just click to drop links?

Thanks in advance, you guys are always so helpful!

i'm interested in this topic. hope Entrecard users will give an insight.

Hey, I saw your ad on Entrecard.

    Here's my experience:
I get a lot of visitors from Entrecard. Right now I'm getting 100+ everyday. But most of them are there just to drop their cards.

Some of them read other articles as well. But my 'comments' have been increasing ever since I started using Entrecard. It's not much, but better than before.

You need to have a good popularity rating for visitors to visit your site. Make sure you go around and drop cards on others blogs as well. No need to drop 300 everyday (which is the maximum), even if you drop 150/day - u'll get more than 75 people. So, it's not bad.

I personally think this is better than LinkReferral.

    Hi Diana
I am new to Entrecard, just placed them on my blog this week, so I guess it's a little hard to tell how good they will be for me, too early. I had about 8 request today to approve their Entrecard though.
I only accepted one so far.

It is absolute garbage. Make friends on Digg, reddit, and stumble upon and build your accounts.

well i agree to you.... sometimes Entrecard makes me sick especially on their credit taxes.. Extremely high..

The best way to use it is by having your kids click other cards all day. Entercard is great for high school kids who don't have homework to do. It's "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" type site. Traffic is worthless. Your traffic is there merely to earn credits so that they can get the same type of worthless visitors on their blogs in exchange for visiting yours.

PS: also when I see Entercard banner on somebody else's blog it always discounts the blog in my eyes immediately, because placing Entercard on your blog is the same as publically making a statement: "My blog is worthless because I need Entercard to incentify traffic since I can't get natural traffic"
    1. Jeunelle
@ModelElaine...thanks for the input, since you put it that way I am removing mine right now.

It bumped up my traffic a bit and has an interesting ad rotator widget you can plant on your site that changes every day.

I started using Entrecard when I first started my blogs, as a way to get some traffic to them before the search engines kicked in. I have found many very good blogs through this service that I enjoy visiting often, and look forward to a new article from them. I would not have found them otherwise.

However, there are many drawbacks. I am not like many of those people who drop on 300 blogs a day. That is ludicrous in my opinion. Not to mention that those people write many posts about where you should place your widget, so they can accomplish this feat, and how you can drop your 300 drops in an hour. If you are dropping by 300 blogs a day, and many of those same people have more than one blog, and drop 300 for each of them, there is no way those same people could read a word on your blog. So I drop by there about once a week, spend most of my time reading the blogs I enjoy, drop a few quickies, grab some traffic and go.

Google is sending a lot of hits my way these days, so I have been contemplating when the right time to drop this service will be.

I am a new fan with the site itself. But the admin talks with a bossy tone and sometimes it does seem irritating.

I do have some traffic from entrecard and I am only with the site for 3 weeks so far.

I guess I will see how things play out there.
  8. Guttu
You get traffic but its just traffic exchange. Very few are interested in blogs. Most of the users just want traffic. I've just kept the widget to find some nice blog. They remove blogs which don't show widget.

Using Entrecard is a bit tiring because I drop cards like everyday.. and yes.. tiring. Well, there are good blogs there, like pet blogs, or photoblogs.

by the way can anyone tell me how to change the look of my card????

Go to 'Dashboard' and under 'Your Entrecard' click 'Edit'

    "Yes it is great".

This is what I thought. I have been using entrecard for last 4-5 months. Have decent traffic from it also.

    BUT

Like every mature/long term blogger, time has come for me also to question real USEFULNESS of entrecard.

In my honest opinion, entrecard is GREAT for new bloggers. But once your traffic exceeds 100-150 (non entrecard)visitors per day, entrecard loses its value. One starts analysing input versus output; Time spent dropping cards and number of REAL visitors (not just droppers).

I never dropped 300 cards. Not even 100. The maximum I dropped was 53. At least I don't have the time to drop 300 cards every day and get in return 90% DROPPERs.

Yes, I have found some blogs and a very few readers of my blog.
Yes, entrecard has given me traffic.
Yes, it is good for NEW BLOGGERS.
Yes, I am using it and 'll continue using it for some more time.

But, YES, after some time, it's efficiency and efficasy becomes a big question mark. No wonder you rarely find entrecard widget on high traffic blogs.

    How GOOD is Entrecard?

My 5 months blogging data indicates

    Entrecard
    Bounce Rate 95%
Av Time on site 21 second

    Google
    Bounce Rate 57%
Av Time on site 8 minute 46 seconds

Traffic from another RELEVANT forum (not blogcatalog)
    Bounce Rate 76%
Av Time on site 1 minute 17 seconds

So decide for yourself, and for your blog, by analysing the visitors data.

Hi there, I use entrecard but I don't drop 300 cards everyday. I am getting more traffic and I agree with dratiffarid. Some people come just to drop card but I am noticing that some of them are leaving comments.
I do like it for building up my contacts. For me it is well set out so that if I choose the arts section, I can easily identify a lot of similar type blogs. Because I find it easy to follow, as I also stumble sites that I like.
I know that some people do just go round and quick drop lots of cards, I started off that way but now I have stared going to quality rather than quantity. Like Ibne above, the most I usually do is the 50 mark.
  14. ThriftShopRomantic
Like Chrissy said, I've got Entrecard, and I only click the ads on blogs I'm reading anyway. I do use my credits to advertise on blogs in my niche, and this has made a difference for me in both traffic, comments and general awareness.

I think keeping it within a niche or an applicable target audience really makes a lot of the difference. I don't have a ton of people who just click and never return.
  15. Bookishmichael
I feel that entrecard is good if ur blog is new.. not sure how good is it for established ones
  16. dianaf86
Thanks for all the great feedback! Since my blog's still pretty new (about a month now), I think I'll use Entrecard for a bit to get my traffic up until I start getting some Google traffic, and then I'll stop using it.
    1. xmarks
I think that is the best way. It requires a lot of time for the traffic. I do suggest that you try to comment many times along with dropping cards. Together it seems to build better quality traffic and that did seem to help my google ranking.
    2. pointlessbanter
that is the dumbest investment of time you can make.... with your content you should be active on sphinn and other niche sites.

You said you don't have a lot of time to promote your blog in other threads. Entrecard is time intensive with no long tail upside.
    3. dianaf86
Have you had a lot of success with Sphinn? I'm also considering using Squidoo. I'd definitely rather get repeat readers who care about my content through promotion efforts, so I'm most likely going to take your advice. :-) But I have found some good blogs I never would have found otherwise through entrecard, so maybe I'll use it to make connections without card dropping.
    4. pointlessbanter
If I were you this is what I would do:

1-Pick a few social voting sites you want to be apart of and begin to reach out to people and friend them, comment their posts, etc. Get their IM names so you can share votes etc.

2- Comment blogs in your niche. Drop 10-20 comments a day if you can. 10 from blog sin your nice 10 do follows.

3- Reach out and guestblog on other blogs in your niche.

The ground work you are doing for that creates relationships, creates links, and creates powerful social media accounts. Entrecard is a traffic exchange. It is a complete time void. Go look at the blogs of the people that are using it and saying they are spending time on it. Compare that to the quality of the larger blogs in your niche or to where you want to go. I will bet you they aren't in the same ballpark.

i use it, I dont drop but i use the advertising from it.
  18. neobluepanther
I am a member of Entrecard for quite some time now, and I have two sites there. Whatever has been said in the discussion is all true.

It does bring in some traffic, but only if you drop (click of Entrecard on other sites) as much as you can, and on a regular basis. Dropping takes quite some time, and in the long run I am sure there are some other ways like good content, good forums, good social networking that can help you to get traffic to your site.

So, I guess, depending upon what you are looking for you will have to decide whether it is good for you or not.

Btw, if you are interested in winning some free EC credits (30, 000 Entrecard credits are at stake), there is a contest going on at one of the sites I am associated with. Details here:

Yeah... I agree with most people. It is a time waster. Useless traffic. Though at the same time I have gotten some new visitors. But after hearing what people are saying i may just remove my entrecard as well going into the new year.
  20. ModelElaine
Entrecard in my opinion is no substitute for organic traffic and does not help organic traffic. I am hearing people saying that it's good for new bloggers to get off the ground. I strongly disagree. It's time consuming and counterproductive.

Write a good post that's hot and it will bring you an avalanche of organic traffic. It may take you two hours to write a post that will potentially bring you 1000 hits in a week or more, or you can spend days dripping cards instead........ Also If it gets picked up by digg, stumbleupon, etc. you can get thousands of visitors over time
  21. coolbuster
Most Entrecard users visit your site just to drop. I get a hundred of them everyday so I felt it was ok to give it a 125x125 ad space in my blog, after all, my pageviews and visits increased from the time I joined in. The good thing is, some of them were converted to organic traffic.

Tip: Make sure you put an RSS feed of your Top Entrecard droppers to attract more and eventually increase your EC credits and ranking.

Here's a very easy guide I wanted to share to you.

Thanks again for all of your feedback and advice!! I've removed Entrecard from my site, because I'd rather promote my content than a 125x125 ad space. :-)

I'M VERY HAPPY WITH ENTRECARD. BROUGHT ME ALOT OF READERSHIP, TRAFFIC AND FRIENDS.

Guys, when you use Entrecard continuously for like a month and get traffic.. and when you suddenly stop.. do you think people from those whom you've dropped cards on will still visit your website? And you'll still have traffic?
  25. buzzingj
Entrecard is just like what everyone said here, favorably or unfavorably.

The important thing is, does it serve your need?

What's important is that it'll get you traffic. But traffic doesn't necessarily mean readership. But like all advertisement, 100% return is never possible.

So your challenge (which is also mine) is how to convert your traffic into readership.

I am trying entrecard in my second blog. Not for me so far.Sent messages to those who sent me requests, no replies. But if they are registered with other social sites like blogcatalog or stumble, they do reply from there, not from entrecard. It is simply a business hub...swipe your card to enter and hope for a good seat.

Blogcatalog rules when it comes to converting traffic into readership...no challenge needed there.
  27. BikiniHotline
I have used entrecard and in my opinion, most are their to drop their cards. This makes the bounce rate increase. Plus it is a time consuming process. I can find better things to do with my time.
