Just curious to know who uses or is thinking of using videos in their blogs particularly wordpress blogs. I'm thinking of upgrading to include videos and wondering if its worth it. If you have any experience of this please comment. Ta very much.

I used one one time and got some stalking letters so took it off. It isn't really something I have time for. I think nice vids take awhile to make. and for those who don't blog full time aren't that great an idea. I can see vid blogs taking off in particular niches though. The other thing to consider is how many people have the time or patience to still through most vidoes? I'll read a uber long blog post before I'll look at most videos.

I use videos on my blogs, but only a couple times per month, max. I upload them to my YouTube channel, them embed the on the blog. After I started doing that, I got my first few subscribers and the video hits tripled

I use videos in mine and I get wicked feedback on them. My blog is about traveling off the beaten path in Jamaica and videos do me wonders!

Very appropriate for your sort of content.
  4. nazcar
yeah. only if necessary. But i decided not to place it on my index page to minimize loading time.

yes we do have video in our blog. We just started making videos of the cemeteries we are visiting so there will be more in the future.

Rarely, but yes: when the content permits or allows it. Upside: high visual interest. Downside: long load times for viewers.

I use 1-3 videos for every post. It gives more reality.

Technology is just developing and everything is at very, very beginning yet.

I haven't as of yet, but I wouldn't rule it out for the future x

I add music videos, never added a video of myself though.

Hmm seems fun though I think I will sometime

I add about one a week, on my music blog, but never would film myself for anything. I don't even podcast, much less add my face!

People have eyes, ears and nose and tongue... and more, hands, legs. So it is up to you to please what and how.

Polybore uses videos a lot in one blog (watchblogvideos) which is specifically about examples of blog videos and tips on how to make them. Especially if you don't want to actually appear in the video.

It is amazing how much multimedia you can use in a blog and provided it is relevant will improve the experience for a visitor.

I use videos as I like to engage as many senses of the human mind as posible

Thanks for all your replies. I'll be visiting all your blogs shortly. Does sound like a good idea, though.

I use video in some of my blogs. I use YouTube, Viddler, DailyMotion, and Babyboomeraudio

I've used videos extensively in my blogs--and it's helped bring out immediate impact on posts. However I find that just posting a video isn't as powerful as combining video with standard text, images, and rich links to other references.

I agree, in my case I concentrate mostly on videos, and in pictures and text is secondary information, but people mostly come for text and pictures.

I do, I do. I use a variety of sources to bring the weird and wacky to my blog.

I use videos in my blog if they add to the subject. I'd recommend it because it brings variety to your blog!

I just blogged two videos today (about the T-Mobile dance commercial).

I've included a video in my posts only a handful of times - usually from youtube or vimeo. But I've never actually taken my own video and uploaded it. I wouldn't have the slightest idea as to how ... it was all I could do to figure out how to include a youtube one.

You could actually use a little Flip Video Camera, small and cheap. It can hold either 30 or 60 min of footage. But the real cool thing is it has built in software and all you have to do is PLUG into your USB.
I found a video on Youtube you can view

      www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgYaxYdVwew
it will work on Mac or Windows

I don't right now but I would like. It is one of the things that I have procrastinated about.

I have workout videos up on my blog and post others every once in a while.

    I used slideshow..

I am not sure yet? I have been really thinking about making the switch to like three videos a week and two text posts a week. I am not sure if it would be best just to have a personal video with me in it, or a camtasia(screen capture video)with me talking over a powerpoint. Anyway though you look at it videos can let your readers get to no and trust you more.
  26. Cyclenewbie
Yep, videos do seem to bring more variety, relevance and interest to a blog. I think the short ones are best - I have a short attention span!

But do you pay extra for it. I know on wordpress you have to pay extra to embed videos rather than linking to it. Is that the same for blogger and other platforms?

I'm amazed at some of you who have more than one blog!!!
    1. rosebud33
Yes, they charge for UPLOAD space but not for embedding.
      You can embed
      easier with viddler.com
sometimes wordpress.com gets moody, there are times it takes Youtube embeds without a problem, other times I need to disable the visual view in the profile section on the top.
Email me privately and I will explain more. but for now, just try dropping the code into the html section. if problems then we can look at other approaches

I love music so I have one page on which I post a You Tube video and usually change it once a week.
    1. rosebud33
      What a cool idea!
  28. Valeriideas
Quite often, through youtube. Helps explain new ideas

I use videos under Fair Use or with the author's permission.

Otherwise, I've added a great video bar by Youtube but it displays a lot of Google videos too. You type in keywords, paste the code on your blog and the bar shows videos on this topic. The video change little by little. So it's always interesting for a reader to come back.
If you don't know it, check it out in my Obama article : www.leblogdelamirabelle.net/article-28379361.html

The only problem is, I could only place one per page. If you place another one it repeats the videos of the first :-o
