I don't think you can generalize like that.

    ummmm...whoever knows the ingrediants better.

Whichever happens to be an alchemist that actually turns out the Philosopher's Stone out of all that mash.

I don't believe the art cooking is gender-determined. You either can cook or you can't.

I can't say which gender is best overall, but my husband is a FAR better cook than I am. He enjoys it also--and comes home from work every night and makes me dinner! BUT, I do all the cleaning It's a fair trade, for sure.

My husband can grill anything to perfection. I can't. I can, however, make something great out of nothing in our kitchen. So I'd have to say we both have our "areas of expertise".

for me I always try to get a guy that can cook cause I sure the hell dont know how to cook. Honest I have seen in person more guys that can cook better then women. So from my experience I'd say guys can cook better

Girls are useless when it comes to cooking

it depends. I cook, a lot. I love to bake and my soups are requested often but one of my friends is head chef at his restaurant and a far better cook than I can ever hope to be. I wouldn't mind a man who can find his way around a crockpot but if it's football season...on Sunday's the kitchen is all mine!

I think it's fairly common for men who do cook to be good cooks.

Those that don't like doing it, tend to live off of takeout and microwave meals when single. And tend to rely on their partner when in a relationship.

Those that do cook, often do so because they like doing it, and we tend to become good at what we like doing.

I think its more common that women learn to cook because of need or the difference in gender upbringing. Those that like doing it are every bit as good as men, but you'll find more women than men who just simply do it because they have to or get fed that role in a relationship.

I learned to cook because my mother was a terrible cook and it was either eat what she mangled or starve or take over the kitchen.
    2. csiunatc
I was lucky enough to learn in a restaurant. But my passion came out of necessity after that. My GF at the time could burn teawater.

So i hear you on that one.

OK, I'll eat the green stuff but only if you're covered in the leaves. And we dont need no branches...thats just disgusting. Look, we will just order out Chinese....thats American Chinese food not real Chinese food 'k

    5. sensico

After having an argument over steamed rice with my boyfriend last weekend when he was here I admit, in my case, it is men.

Women are better cooks at home. Men are better cooks in restaurants and hotels. There are recipes best prepared by women and there are recipes best understood by men.

I have lots of old hunting camp recipes. There's nothing better than a fowl stew cooked in a big black iron kettle over a smoldering open camp fire.

I'd say there's a reason all the great chef's of the world are men ...

I can't address the cooking skills or lack thereof of every man and woman on earth. I can say that overall my husband is both a better cook and a better baker than I am. It's a weird phenomena but we can both use the same pastry recipe and his turns out wonderful and flaky and mine turns turns out like cardboard. I excel at making salads, soups, stews, vegetable dishes and crockpot meals.

I think men are the best cooks. But I think more women than men can cook by a wide margin. I can cook many foods by myself. And not just the microwave oven ones.

Some men can really burn in the kitchen!

My dad was an excellent hunter and fisherman and he knew how to make everything he caught or killed taste good. I'm a good cook but I think he had me beat. In my own household; I'm THE cook. By that I mean the only one who rattles those pots and pans.
  19. ghenessa
both really are a good cook. only, men are not really into the budget not like women.

Men. But it is a woman's department, though.
  21. idealpinkrose
at home, it's the woman but I see men in most restaurants...

Statistically, more male chefs at restaurants and more female chefs at homes. But I think male are highly favored.

Slightly off track comment - there is a theory to that.

In restaurant kitchens, the staff works like a well oiled machine, each chef has their area, their duties, and work together. In a home the "chef" must do everything to prep and cook the meal.

One difference in genders (though not for everyone) is that women are multitaskers and prefer working alone, while men are not multitaskers and prefer working in teams.

If you notice, in fine restaurants where the service is broken up into several servers performing one task each (water boy, buser, waiter, cocktail server, runner, etc..) the servers are almost always all men.

In restaurants where the server must perform all or most of the service tasks they are almost all women.

Same thing with bartenders. (I have only worked with a few male bartenders who were even worth bothering with - much less any who were beyond excellent unless they were gay - seriously).

So in the compartmentalized kitchen, the assembly line set up is better suited for men. Because when the women get in there, they actually end up having more problems than not - unless the kitchen is very small, and you have only one - three chefs. But at home, this problem doesn't exist.

BY statistics MAN are, by reality, MAN are:) The explanation? Probably many restaurants are sexist and their chef is always male, i don't know. Or maybe we are that good:D
