my favorite manga and anime are naruto, one piece and bleach all are shounen
why are shounen manga much popular than others
the most important question is do u addicted to manga and anime
surely they are made for younger generation
but after reading some manga u will say it is for everyone
or is it a fashion

Better writing, and more consistent story telling.
American comic books have multiple conflicting storylines and alternate universes. You can have a character die in one series, have them alive in another, and have them killing the person who killed them in a different series. It's sloppy and it just doesn't make sense. -

I second Trailofpen's opinion.
Compared to many western comics and cartoons, anime and manga are more serious somehow. The stories are better, the drawing style is nice and consistent, (not like for example Superman, whose appearance in every magazine depends on who drew him that day), and it's not just for kids. A lot of the anime series are different from "real" tv-series and movies with live actors only in that they are animated instead of filmed with actors.
That's not to say that all western comics and cartoons are bad, though. I like some of the French comics too, like "Valérian". Never liked Disney much. Bleh... -
I used to watched the subbed japanese anime all the time
Fruits Basket, Cowboy Bebop, Fushigi Yugi, Azumanga Daioh, Inu Yasha, Evangelion, FMA, Ruruoni Kenshin, Death Note, Gantz, Full Metal Panic and like hundreds of others...I'd name them all but I rather not send people to sleep just yet.
Japanese anime just has so much more to offer, most of the stories have been great and engaging, many series aren't geared toward a younger audience. There's depth to the characters and I absolutely love the drawing style. The American comic stuff just appears so childish and lame alongside it, with its cheese lines and typical moral fest. Probably some good ones out there but I prefer the original (not horribly dubbed) japanese anime.
