Why are we here, in this world (planet, during this time? Does anyone have a really good explanation as to why we are HERE and for what purpose? It can be scientific, religious etc. Let me know what you think......

I think it is a personal thing. I think I have a purpose but I will keep it for me. Finding one's purpose is not an easy thing to do and I am still things to straight up.

I'm here because two people made it possible.

Thanks mum and dad... I appreciate it.

Plastic. The Earth wanted plastic but couldn't make it itself. So, it made us...and we made plastic...and now we can all be destroyed. ...Sorry, couldn't resist a little George Carlin for that one.

    To do the hokey pokey.

Because it really IS what it's all about.

A better question might be "why do some humans feel the need to have some kind of larger purpose in life? Why can't they just be content to enjoy what they have, instead of questioning it?"
    1. Anok
But why do we have what we have? And why do we feel content? What is the source of that contentment? Why do we have the need to ask questions like this?

      Why, why why?!

You tell me...I'm not asking "why" about anything, personally. I'm too busy enjoying my life.
    3. Anok
If I knew those answers, I wouldn't have asked you!

      Here we go again ...
      w00! h00!
My life purpose is to learn how to live in the present moment, rather than in the past or in the future.

John Lennon sang "why on earth are we here? Surely not to live in pain and fear..."

But, without pain and fear, what would we blog about?
  7. polybore
I have simplified this from, why are we here, to, why am I here.

Well there are a number of answers to this. What noise does one hand clapping make, or does a tree falling unobserved in a forest make a noise?

What you are doing here Jwilldimedrop10 is entirely up to you. Make of it what you best can. God speed.
    1. lisleman
that tree-forest-noise thing - If you're a husband then it is still your fault.

My favorite answer to this question is a BBC sci-fi sitcom called Red Dwarf, where the main character once said:

"Why does it have to be such a big deal? Why can't it be like, like, human beings are a planetary disease? Like the Earth's got German measles or facial herpes, right? And that's why all of the other planets give us such a wide berth. It's like, "Oh, don't go near Earth! It's got human beings on it, they're contagious!" "

If we are here to help others, what are others here for?
    1. Hoeno
We're here to help others, and the others are here to help themselves. So, we're really screwed.

I am simply asking a question for everyone to reply with their own opinion about why they think we are here. I enjoy life but I like thinking rationally. I enjoy conversations that dwell into the unknown and using this forum as a way of taking in other peoples ideas to this big mystery of us on earth. You don't have to say that I should ask another question or question someone ele's purpose in life. If you don't like the question, don't answer it. If you have an idea, opinion to the question please share it. It for enjoyment and discussion.

Great question! People often get so distracted in life, that they fail to pause and ask that most IMPORTANT question. I had that question too and literally searched the earth for the truth. I eventually found the truth about Jesus Christ in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon (which is another testament of Jesus Christ). I KNOW that these scriptures are the word of God. But I didn't know it until I took initative and chose to read and prayed to find out if it was true. I received an answer from the Holy Spirit that I could never deny and I am so happy living this way. I believe we're here to be tested. I believe that we existed as spirits before we came to this earth, and that we were given a body with passions and appetites... and also a moral conscience and that we would be tested to see if we would do all that God has commanded us to do. I believe that we are literaly his children and that He loves us. Just in case you're interested in additional truth... check out this website that changed my life... www.mormon.org
I wish you luck in your own quest to discover the truth about why we're here and what this is all about.

No reason. It was all just a big accident.

My personal opinion or philosophy is sort of a combination of christianity and other ideas. I think humans are here to learn. I think we have many lifetimes, and we learn more each time we're on earth. Eventually, we get to "heaven" or "nirvana" or whatever you want to call it, once we have learned what we need to know. Then our soul gets retired, or we can just rest. Most people's souls are recycled all the time. I don't worry about going to hell if I'm wrong. I think hell exists on earth when you have no faith in God. It's literally existence without God.

I never thought about that......nice comment scribblerchick

In Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles, the Martians are confused and saddened that human beings even need to ask this question. In the novel, Martians are born innately with the answer to this question-- they know that the purpose of life is to live.

Lets just say we are on a journey of spiritual evolution that requires us to take physical form in the process of our development. From each life we experience on Earth we are expected to learn specific things.Between lives we are judged on our performance in the last one and a plan is then made for the life to come.
Only truly advanced adepts retain memory of past lives, although today it is possible to seek Past Life Therapy in the process of both understanding our inner selves and the purpose of this present life.

Because I couldn't afford to make it to the next livable planet. Now interstellar transport has dropped earth from it's route as a cost cutting measure. There are better solar systems with nicer views, less crowds, plenty of water.

I know exactly why I'm here. I know exactly who I'm here for...

You don't know Earth without you being here or experiencing it, so I think its a learning experience. But what concerns me more is why you would question life. Most people who do usually do have a problem with the life their living or fill they need to do more with their life. Life is like the highlight of your day, its about the most important or continuous moment you have yet or had experienced. What your doing here is what we've been doing all a long!

If I wasn't here I would be there. Wherever/whatever "there" is? It guess it is why I'm HERE.

We are here... why doesnt really matter, what matters is how we live the why.

(Thank you... I think I might write a poem now)
  26. dfunzy
We ask because we can. We question because it is our birth right to question. It is the way we learn. Why are we here? Better question:
why am I hear? Because here is where I am? Yes. Where I am is here. I am here because I am here.
  27. Halconite
We are here to unite our life with another living creature. It is our goal. Life is divided into segments that are connected by our constant interaction with one another ....
  28. crazyTsu
We are here because someone spread life on Earth. Are are here because we gonna infect other parts of the universe some day

As I had already told you yesterday, this thread inspired me to write a poem. Thank you.

    Why?

You ask me: Why do we live?
And honestly, I really do not care.
Each of us dresses our own cape,
but to this World, we are born bare.

Some have tried the cloak of glory
Some have dressed the face of shame,
Some have died, but live forever,
while others lived without a name.

You ask me: Why do we live?
And honestly, it really does not matter.
Each of us has his own convictions,
but in this World, they often shatter.

Some have dared to reach the sky
Some have stood strong on their own ground
Some have swam beyond their dreams,
while others dreamed of being drowned.

What really matters is not why we live our life.
It is how we live our why.
What really matters is to make seconds count,
while the time is passing by.

If you liked this poem. Please check out my blog and comment.
