No one else would read my drivel.

      I might have :-)

Began exploring the medium for teaching. Also wanted a place to list my stuff.
    1. globalgirl
You found a great medium... and friends along the way!

Hi glogalgirl. My pal Paul at Paulsfunkystuff.com kept talking about blogging at work. I finally checked it out in March of this year. I got hooked quickly. I wrote a lot, but noone came. I didn't understand about marketing. I joined BC to drive traffic to my blog. Now I love being on BC, and I would remain active here even if I didn't get any extra traffic. The folks here are interesting, funny, passionate, and supportive. I've learned a lot. The more I learn, the more I realize there is so much more to learn. I started my blog on March 5 of this year, and tonight I passed 70,000 hits. I blog about writing and things that make me laugh.
    1. globalgirl
Congratulations! Great to have you here.

You said: [The more I learn, the more I realize there is so much more to learn]. I've been known to say, "The more I know, the more I realize what I don't know". :-) It's great to come to a place where not knowing is not an insecure place to be.

(Regarding stats: I don't even look them though I do have google analytics.)

I can't remember because I am worn out, stoned and will someone please lower the volume on the music!
    1. globalgirl
Okay. I guess BC is a virtual party for you, eh?

Life is a party my friend...

There is something romantic about writing your thoughs into the void of internet. But I think I also like to know that someone out there in the void is reading my thoughts, even if I don't know who the person is. I am interested in reflections of life, personal development and people. My blog is still in it's infant stage, so I joined BC to get some readership and some comments and feedback (hopefully) to let me know how I am doing. Then I found the perspective of lifes from the personalities here engaging and inspiring...

Tempted to put a link to my blog here.... but I will respect globalgirl.. hopefully you guys can check it out though
    1. globalgirl
Blogging = romantic? Never thought of that one, but I guess for some it can be. **Have to click your avatar/name and see your blog** :-)

You are in the best place to market your blog, with all the colorful characters defining this BC community. BTW, you need an avatar so you can be colorful too. :-)

Tommorrow marks the start of Year Four for Red Monkey. I think I joined BC in June of '05.
    1. globalgirl
Are you the "oldest" BC member? No wonder your voice matters :-)
  7. cheahch
    Globalgirl,
Thanks... I have just joined this community.. will be working on my avatar soon... Yes blogs can be romantic... do you believe that most good stories/movies ever made was based on some true life's story?

The theme of 'Globally Minded' stuck in my head for some reason after I've been to your blog... the world's community is becoming closer and yet the world's leader are becoming farther apart... these are interesting times
    1. globalgirl
Interesting thought about community and leaders. Elaborate please.

In response to your question: Absolutely. I really like to get to know the real stories of others.

    Why/how did you start blogging?
I had heard about it for sometime and was curious, though I'm not usually much of a writer so I just figured it wasn't for me, then my wife (Truthoughts) started a blog on Wordpress and in her first week, she had a high of 189 visits on one day. This really inspired me! I'm so proud of her.

    Why did you join BlogCatalog?
Originally to get more traffic as I thought it was something similiar to Zimbio or Technorati, however, I have become addicted to this forum as a source of comic relief, comfort, great ideas and meeting new friends.

What do you like most about BlogCatalog?
Meeting new people, checking out their blogs and watching everyone interact in this forum. You can tell alot about a person by their responses.

    What do you blog about?
What if one idea... one suggestion from my blog could change your life for the better?
    1. globalgirl
I'm glad you and your wife found the BC virtual party; you'll find it's rather interesting, funny, outrageous, intelligent and sometimes strange here. :-)
  9. Truthoughts
    1. I wanted to have a voice. I am a very shy person and so my thoughts don't normally get heard. I like writing, so I figured it would be a good place to let it all out.

    2. My husband, Bradley "OutsideMyBrain", signed me up to bring more traffic. He is more of the technical one.

    3. I like being able to see who has joined who, as friends, and in their neighborhoods, seeing their content and reading what others are interested in.

    4. My first blog, Truthoughts - Introspection and Beyond, is for Christian topics including prophecy and world news, etc.

My second blog, Truthoughts Today - Finding Something In Nothing, is for my random thoughts.

My third blog, Truthought's Snowglobe World - My collection and my connection to a snowglobe reality, is focused on my collection of snowglobes... though I don't have any pictures posted yet because I just began this one.
    1. globalgirl
Thanks for sharing. I wonder how many couples have separate blogs here? Good to see couples who get the blogging world together. It's hard to describe blogging let alone this place unless someone jumps right in (and perseveres!).

I'll visit your blog. Ha. I'll visit everyone on this thread, like it or not. :-)

I have to agree that people here (for the most part) are very nice, and also very helpful and encouraging.

I started my blog to try and be less 'uptight' - I was a very closed up person before after an abusive marriage. I'm gradually learning to open up and let my creative streak out. I also love web design, although I'm not very good at it, so I'm always tinkering with the look of the site.
  11. offendedblogger
I started blogging because I became acutely aware that globally this unrational "fear of offending" is beginning to infringe on our basic human rights to free speech and freedom of expression.

(Ironic, considering today is Blogger's Unite, huh?)

My blog didn't start out as a humor blog, it started out as a political blog but I decided to use humor to point these things out because hopefully more people will listen that way.

I joined Blog Catalog because I needed somewhere to hang out and annoy fellow bloggers with all of my Offenses.

    • When I returned to the New Orleans area after Hurricane Katrina and The Flood, I was grateful that my post college art survived. That’s what made me want to blog.
    • I wanted to learn more about blogging
    • I like the raucous nature of the Discussion Threads and the willingness of other bloggers to share what they know or to help with problems
    • My art and places in the Greater New Orleans Area
  13. LifeProb
I've been writing since I was 16. Then stopped.
Now I have the need to write again. My office work is too boring and I am not socially active with small child, full time work and the house....
    It's a place to escape I guess...
  14. Cmcandre
Blogging was easier and less obnoxious then writing e-mails and sending them to friends and family. This way they get to choose if they want to see my updates. As it's progressed it's given me a way to write for the few audience members I know I have and get some input on how to raise my dog.
  15. howisbradley
I didn't understand the concept of blogging for the longest time. Most blogs I saw were the ramblings of thoughts on personal blogs. Very dear thoughts to the person writing them, but not written well, or in a way that interested me.

Two years ago I started having severe problems and was finally diagnosed with bipolar (it was obvious for so long, I don't know how we missed it before). I was put on disability so I ended up spending a lot of time on the net. I learned there was much more to blogging and grasped it as a way to help people better understand mental illness.

My reason for coming to blogcatalot is I was trying to find a way to increase my readers and then learned this is much more than that. I'm glad I found it.
  16. geographer
I started blogging because it's the simple way to sounding my hearth!
  17. Nomadic
My boyfriends ex girlfriend had her blog turned into a book and got paid a fortune for it. It wasn't very good. As a writer, and a PR professional (cringe), I got curious and I now have two blogs, one for travel and the other for thoughts. I have no intention to reveal intimate details (as she did) which is probably why I won't make a fortune either (like she did), but I do thank her for bringing me into the world of blogs and an online community. It's a place to write and rant freely about things I care about.

I wanted to raise awareness of Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction and chart my life with it so that, even if I ever get "cured", I will never forget how much my life changed - not only because of my new baby, but also the mind-numbing pain in my pelvis and hips that each day brings.

I started blogging because my website was too complex. I started my website because I wanted people to see that there is good news in the world. I didn't want to mess up PP again so I started My Thoughts as a test run. I want to help people. It doesn't matter how little or how much money I have there is a way to help.
  21. kevingoodman
I started a blog to serve as the foundations of a marketing strategy – to put content out there. (Honestly I would say it was rather unnecessary).

More recently my blog has transformed into a diary about starting and running my own PR business – and also used for updates and notices from my business Sundown Media Concepts LLC.

I joined BC as blogger newbie not knowing what it was – just exploring. I am very gratefull to the BC community as I have met some pretty cool people.
    1. Shiley
      Awww... warm fuzzies.
  22. lisamcglaun
I joined without knowing much about it to gain exposure for my blog. What I found was a lively community of friends. I'm here for at least a few minutes every day. I love it and the people I've met.

    I joined in April 07
  23. ThriftShopRomantic
My new Mac had come with web software. I had had a web site I'd worked on years before, before blogging was blogging. So the new software got me thinking about generating content for the web again.

I'd been trying to get articles published in print publications-- and had made some minor progress there. But the web seemed like an intriguing opportunity.

    Now, I'm hooked!

I wanted to see how a commission based bookstore on a blog would work. It didn't at all. Now I am doing it for my own ego and improving my writing skills.

I joined blogcatalog to get more traffic to my site. Not because I like you. No really, I think you are the best. Just kidding.
  27. jojomliganso
I started blogging because I want to...expressing yourself is more important than sitting infront of your computer doing some undesirable things...Helping others and sharing ideas to everyone makes you feel better than keeping it within yourself...blogging for me is means of communication to everyone whom I dont know but understand of who we are and what we are in real. I love it!
    1. Begneo
I agree! We share the same cup of coffee!

I originally started blogging to increase traffic to my Etsy store...I joined BC to increase traffic to my blog, which in turn would increase traffic to my Etsy store...I found a great group of people...

My blog promos my jewelry as well as featured artists.

Awww. 'No need to link"? Bit of a time-saver, come to think of it.

    Why/how did you start blogging?
I was looking for a way to expand my (tiny, startup) online publishing business. Getting started was pretty easy. I found a free blog hosting service with adequate features, thought about topics I could cover that someone else might be interested in, and started writing.

    Why did you join BlogCatalog?
    To promote my blogs.

What do you like most about BlogCatalog?
The people here. This is by far the online community I spend most of my down time in. Also, the refreshingly civil tone that (most of) the discussions have.

    What do you blog about?
Raising a family in a small town; starting a small business without going crazy; the war on terror and related phenomena; grilling; a crazy (and fictional) artist; stuff I find in the blogosphere, or on the web, or somewhere else; and events and thoughts related to a webcam.

    or
    What do you blog about?
About six times a day for one of the blogs, down to when I feel like it for another.
    1. clioandme
You mean you didn't have something on Apathetic Leming already written about this?
  31. CrotchetyOldMan
I started over 4 years ago at Angelfire because the voices in my head were driving me crazy. That, and I was able to get out all the anger about my situation (crappy job, lousy bosses, screwed up in-laws) without losing my job or relationship. Today, I have 4 blogs I write on nearly every day because I lost the job, and made peace with the in-laws.
I'm freaking bored, so I write. And write, and write. I hope I'm improving my skills by doing this, too.
  32. CrotchetyOldMan
I joined BC to learn more, and get better.
I really like the community in my short time here.
I blog about so much stuff. Depends on my day and mood (usually crotchety)
  33. blerim
Networking with other professionals in the internet marketing field and meet more well minded people.
  34. Begneo
I blog for nothing! I never receive a remuneration from doing it. I just enjoy doing it! I just want to interact with people around the world! I managed two blog sites but its just for me to support global peace and earth preservation! Well, its fun here! And its addictive!

I first start to blog when I had the chance to share my life with a couple of good friends (for those who doesn’t know, dogs) and they made me laugh in a very funny moments.
At that point I start to think, why not to share their stories with other people, and there come the idea of a blog.

Today in my country we are leaving very hard days and things are getting worse for people that have dogs.
So now I started to change my blog, not only to share stories, but also to try to educate people to who dogs really are, trusty working family companions.

I join this community to try that my blog would be seen by other country people and that way to also try to change the way they see Portuguese dog owners.

Also, since I leave in an amazing natural beauty area (I just move here in April 2007), this year I am trying to show a little bit of what I see when I enjoy the walks with my dogs.

Ok I think I made a very long text !

I actually started blogging a couple years ago when I was working as an assistant. I had a lot of down time and started blogging to keep my mind occupied. I don't post on that one anymore though. I picked it up again about a month ago, because I finally came up with some good content!

I joined BlogCatalog after I saw a link on another blog. I like participating in the different discussions here, especially helping out other bloggers when I can.

My blogs are about history, mostly US History, and what I'm learning. I've been a history buff for as long as I can remember and I love sharing my passion for it.

I simply lurrrrve the new layout - its cooler, and spicier in many ways. Oh, why did I blog - I started blogging during those days when it was called journals really... on a php/cgi script.. and had quite a following. Some of my friends later raved about BC, and well.. as history has it, I became a member :-)

The truth is Kat, I knew I'd meet you here

      I knew too :-)
  40. casasdobarlavento
Well in my case, I started a blog on the advice of a friend who also has a blog.

The intention of my blog is to let people know about my area, the Algarve in Portugal, and all its events and tourist attractions.
Since my firm, Casas do Barlavento, is a Real Estate and Holiday Rental firm, the blog was formed also with the intention of advertising special offers and in order to bring possible new customers to our firm.

I join BlogCatalog to get to know other people and other blogs and to give to recognition to my blogs.

I'd been thinking about blogging for a while, and actually wrote posts for a couple of months before I 'went public' so I'd know if I was able to stick to it.
    Why do I do it?
I didn't see anyone else writing about the kinds of things that I wanted to read within my professional field so I created the blog I wanted to exist!
I joined Blogcatalog when I was looking into ways of networking and finding other blogs. I quite like the discussions to be honest
  43. devettos
I made a big decision last year to leave the corporate world, reconnect with myself and re-discover my passions. I had also hit one of those age milestones and felt I couldn't let life pass me by. But I needed to still earn a living while on my journey of re-discovery.

I read about people making money from blogging and decided to check it out. I am really enjoying the learning experience and the development process. I haven't made a dollar yet but having started this April, I now have 2 blogs and websites and I think I am addicted. I think I am passing on the bug to friends and family too!

I joined BlogCatalog to try to increase my traffic but now I am also enjoying reading other people's blogs from all around the world and giving feedback. There are so many blogs out there it is very easy to get lost!

I get really excited when someone discovers and reads my blog and even more so if I get feedback! So fellow bloggers, let's help each other out. This is a great forum for it.

Oh...I blog about my dogs and life in the Caribbean...

    Thanks...
