Why do (most) people like cheesecake better than an earache?

Are we afraid of pain?
Are we a hopelessly hedonistic species?
What do you think?

I am in some of the worse pain I can remember. I went to the gym with my buddy who is gym rat, and who I can't ever remember not having a 6 pack, and I've now come to hate ever listening to him tell me "Come on man, just one more, just one more!" Everytime I move it feels like my muscles have been torn in half. I can't even brush my damn teeth. I used to work out all the time, but I've never been in this much pain from it. I feel like shooting up some anabolics right now or downing an assload of pain killers. PAIN SUCKS!

Not a huge fan of cheescake or earaches. However, my wife loves the Peanut Butter Fudge Ripple Cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory and I have to say it is pretty tasty.

"Suffering is the sole origin of consciousness." Dostoyevsky said that. In other words, if you'd rather have cheesecake than an earache, you're a mindless wimp.
