Should I be moving my blog over to wordpress or something? What is so wrong with having my blog on blogger?

I don't know anyone who "hates" Blogger. I know many people who are quite happy there. It's a free hosted blogging platform that allows blogger initiated advertising, whereas, wordpress.com is also free hosted does NOT allow blogger initiated advertising.
The blogging software you choose and the web host you choose ought to be based on your requirements, expectations and skills. If you feel hosting and advertising are requirements then Blogger is a natural choice.
If you expect to establish a professional blog and become a full-time blogger then take a look around and see which software how many most full-time professional bloggers are using. What I see is that most have hired web hosts and are using the free blog sofware and plugins that can be downloaded from wordpress.org
Note that wordpress.com and wordpress.org are different en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-read-me-first-before-posting?replies=1
This topic has been discussed on this forum many times so here's the link so you can read what others have said. If you look hard enough you will find my comments in those threads where I point out some obvious benefits that wordpress.com provides that Blogger doesn't such as custom widgets, global tagging pages, volunteer supported support & off topic forums, and the soon to be integrated buddypress, which will result in wordpress.com becoming a very large social network

Nothing at all if you like it. I'm happy with my site on Blogger, too. I understand Wordpress has some additional features, but then it's also a bit more difficult to work with and requires somewhat more technical knowhow.
So it really depends on your needs and how much time you want to spend blogging versus programming.-
I've been trying to set up a WP blog this past week or so and have finally given up.
I am not a programmer. I don't want to be a programmer. It is too damned complicated and it seems that all the changes I want require programming expertise.
I don't want to program, I want to write. I have devoted WAY too much time trying to find instructions how to do something as simple as changing the colour of a heading...time I could have been writing, There is no easily-found "manual" to walk me through what are surely very ordinary customizations. All in all, I found that this, my second attempt to set up a WP blog (the first was a couple of years ago) was frustrating and fruitless.
Maybe someday WP will have the basic common sense to put a button in the top of the page that says "Help," a button that leads to a basic manual (understandable by those of us who shudder at the thought of having to become programmers in order to blog) on how to do ordinary things like change background or font colours in the themes, how to change fonts...all those things that Blogger has built-in. When that happens, I'll give it another try. Until then, I'd rather write than waste time hunting down instructions that should exist but obviously don't.

I dislike blogger, a lot of the sites on there look the same and that really bothers me for some reason... I know the same is true if you use a template... but when you're on a blogger site, you usually KNOW you're there.
Even if the content is good it makes it harder to appreciate it
My 2 cents :/-
That's true, but a bit of tweaking can make your Blogger site more individual and there are lots of templates available. Of course it's helpful to have a little bit of knowledge of CSS to really do a good job, but the same is true of WordPress.
I've used both WP and Blogger and each has its advantages. WP definitely has more and (in some cases) better/more sophisticated features and for a stand-alone website I prefer it. Blogger is simpler in many ways and I've grown to like it with my current blog, but it lacks some essential (to me) features-- like, in order to have a sophisticated comments ability you have to farm it out to an outside source like JS Kit, and I'm still fighting to get a good cascading horizontal menu going that actually works with the new template I'm tweaking. Also, WP's category system is better than Blogger's labels; it's more efficient, less bulky.
But overall I'm not unhappy with blogger. With a little bit of work you can learn to modify things to your satisfaction, and they say that learning new things helps keep alzheimer's away so I figure it's good for me. ;-)
Oops. Meant this as a response to roguedeals. Sorry about that. Maybe I haven't learned my quota of new things today to keep my brain from shriveling, lol.

Are you kiddin me? I just moved my blog over to wordpress and to a housewife with no "formal" education,it is wonderful. It gives you itemized stats. It even tells you how someone was referred to your blog. I love it.
I still have a whole lot to learn but so far so good. -

That came off as a bit harsh but I personally look forward to her replies she's always accurate concise and knowledgable...
Most people just give their opinion but she backs hers w sources and blog posts. that's something that can't be said for a lot of people.
Your comment alone suggests that you know this but I'm not sure why you're cynical about it. I'm a professional designer and I still value her replies here...
She is one of the few where I can improve if I take her advice into consideration... Which leaves me no room to be cynical and plenty of times to be grateful.
Case and point: if more people on BC were like her we'd have many more meaningful conversations and we'd learn a ton more than we do now.

What the hell does any of this have to do with the original question. Christ go to your separate corners and stop talking to each other.
Riley it was a douche move to start talking shit in what was a plain thread. Timethief don't engage them all if it is round and round crap.
This is starting to get f'ing ridiculous.
You guys have a problem take it up privately. -
@powerkor I found stuff online that shows it's been happening for over two years so I don't feel special. When someone tries to discredit YOU and shows the audacity to look up all your PR's and post them to that end, you'll understand why it was harsh. Having said that, we all live with the consequences of our words ... I'm still waiting for an apology but not holding my breath:
... now back to the topic. Blogger is fine! I'm over my little diatribe against it. I see its value now. The important thing kids is that you BLOG! Long live bloggers on all platforms. Now I'm off to work on my new Wordpress.org theme. sayonara!

hmm, I don't think all people hate blogger, If you want to blogging on a free platform so Blogger is the right one, but if you want full control of your blog so go for self hosted with wordpress as the platform. I think people don't hate Blogger but they more recommend Wordpress but the way their talk like they hate it... huhu

I started on blogger and hated it. It was horrible for me, it had absolutely none of the features I wanted. Even Livejournal had more to offer me than blogger. But I am picky, blogger is simple so some people appreciate that. I just really like to be able to customize my stuff 100%, if I want to block an IP, I can, if I want to add commentluv I can, if I want people to be able to comment me without having to jump through hoops, they can. There are several blogger blogs I would love to comment on, but it is not set up to be all inclusive (IE: only some allow name and URL). As the others have said, it depends on what you are looking for and I was looking for wordpress.org because I haven't found anything better yet that has every feature I want (including myspace cross posting) and has other sites that are compatible with it.

It all depends on how serious you are going to take your blogging and what your goals are for your site. I would never set up a blogger page.
However if my mom or aunt wanted to start a blog where they were going to share stories with other friends it is perfect for them.-
Focusing just on free hosted wordpress.com and blogspot is okay I guess. But there are other free hosted blogs available too. Some bloggers have taken to Tumblr micro-blogging these days and a lot of them are also wordpress bloggers and blogspot bloggers.
A Tumblr blog is a great place to keep a wide variety of what have you. My tumblr scrapbook blog contains my blogging notes and other bit and pieces. Tumblr blogs are easy to set up and there are nice themes to choose from that allow for tweaking and much more. You can also get additional free themes from several sites on the net for tumblr blogs too. So why not consider having one?
www.tumblr.com/
Features:
(1) Mobile posting - Post text, photos, MP3s, or videos (if you have Vimeo enabled) directly from your mobile phone. You can use the Subject line to attach a caption to photos. Remember that anyone can use this address, so keep it private. If you need to, you can reset this address.
(2) Mobile browsing - To browse your tumblelog on a phone or PDA, just add “/mobile” to the URL
(3) Tumblet widget - Mac users, install the Tumblet Dashboard Widget to quickly post text blurbs from your desktop. Mac OS 10.4 or newer required.
(4) Post via Instant Message - To post to Tumblr through AOL Instant Messenger, just add TumblrBot to your buddy list.
(5) Embed your tumblelog - If you want to incorporate your tumblelog on a web page other than Tumblr, you can use the following code to embed your posts as basic HTML that you can skin with CSS
(6) Bookmarklet - Drag the button to your Bookmarks Bar to quickly post content to your tumblelog.
(7) Feeds (cannot be used as spammer and splogger tools) - Feeds let you actively import your posts from up to five other sites and create an aggregator blog. You may only import content you create. If you import other people’s content, your account will be suspended. For more information on feeds, check out their help section.
(8) “Public” or Private” groups - A full-featured tumblelog with the special ability to invite others to post. Once invited, members share full control.
(9) Domains - Use a custom domain name with Tumblr and use Google Analytics to measure your traffic.
(10) Customizable themes - Several customizable themes are available and there are other free themes available on the net but, if you prefer you can create a custom HTML theme for your tumblelog.
(11) Build your own apps with the Tumblr API.
(12) Clear terms of service, content and privacy policies

Here's my point of view why i hare Blogger
- you cannot set a tag for your post
- You can't see from which post your visitor are commenting
- You can't delete comment directly from your admin panel which mean you have to go to your blog page and find that comment from every of your blog post
- You can't delete multiple comment as easy as wordpress
- You can't edit multiple post
- Having useful widget for blogger is hard to find
Thats it, and now i'm happy with my wordpress -
I like Blogger...I have 2 blogs there. Wordpress is okay, but I guess I've been at Blogger longer and just like it better.
-
why move? create a copy and keep them interconnected, so that one visiting the first will visit the second.
i like blogger very much, and i know lots of co bloggers. blogger is a dream come true for non techies like me.-
weblogian, I don't think blogger-hosted blogs necessarily look any cheaper than most self-hosted WP blogs (how many use the Kubrick theme without making any changes?) For those who use only the few templates offered by Blogger without tweaking them I pretty much agree, they look maybe not cheap but definitely nonprofessional. That's fine for what most people use their blog for, but it's noticeable.
I don't think my blog looks cheap, but maybe that's because it's mine? rptides.blogspot.com I use a modified Minima Stretch template. (But of course I'm in the process of majorly modifying a different template that is, itself, a modification of a WP theme-- so maybe I'm all wet here.)
Blogger templates are getting better looking, with hundreds of new ones available nowadays that look much better than the old ones.
"Mish", Michael Shedlock, has hosted his "Global Economic Analysis" blog with Blogger for years. It's not pretty and it's so cluttered up with ads it's hard to find his content, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference to the growth of his audience or the fact that he's regularly talking about economics on the radio and TV. Maybe in some cases the message is more important than the envelope?

You want wordpress because it is more customizable and, if self hosted, you own the domain name and the web space. As long as you do not violate your host's TOS, you can put what you want on it.
There is a pretty steep learning curve, but it has gotten a lot better with the last few wordpress updates. It used to be a real headache.
Plus, there is a plugin for everything. You really need to know very little programming, although it really helps.
