what are we looking for in loving a person? Is it for companionship? acceptance? relationship? for sex? for fun? Or perhaps by nature human being is a loving person. Or there are other reasons which we ourselves can't really define what it is, or do we really need to define it. How a bout you? what do you have in loving and what you are looking for in doing such?

Depends on what you mean by love. Loving a child and loving a partner are two different kinds of love but I think they both have the same purpose. People don't want to be alone. The way that we bond and feel like we are more than just a solitary creature is through love. When we love, it is not just our heart and mind that occupies our body, it is also the heart and mind of another person.

indeed it's different but not on its essence, but only on the way it is acted upon. Love of a Couples/ partners has to go through courtship, kissing, hugging, sex, etc. while your love with your parents or even to your child is very different. but both on these loving, you can see the respect, acceptance, caring, giving and sacrificing which i guess goes beyond what we physically do in loving... it's true that the two person becomes one. when someone you love dies, you actually feel like you have no reason to live because part of you is already dead...thanks for your insight

Love is a chemical inebriation of the brain that overrides the more fundamental fight/flight response to something other than the self. This solidifies social and reproductive unions, and therefore increases the evolutionary success of the given organism.
Here's what I think of "true" love: askesisphilosophyandcarnivorism.blogspot.com/2009/02/myth-of-true-love.html -
Love shows all the signs of intelligent design. It is one of the points I used over the years to prove the existence God. No other living thing has this ability. It is a gift from God, use it wisely!

"Love shows all the signs of intelligent design"
No, it doesn't.
Love is clearly the product of evolutionary processes. An intelligent designer would have to be an idiot to incorporate a love mechanism into its creation, if its goal is to create strong, flourishing organic machines.
Love is the product of weakness. Only a weak creature needs to bond with others, so as to survive.
Theoretically, a perfectly strong individual would be loveless.

Love is a word. Love is a concept.
When I say I love some thing, I believe I am mentally, establishing a commitment and a loyalty to this thing. There is something about it that justifies my desire to want to be "attached" to or to love it.
True love is unattainable, sort of like being perfect. They are ideas. Plato calls them Forms. Now, I am not going to get all philosophical, but this is important. People take the word love and apply ultimatums to it. If you love me, than you wouldn't do this and that. That is, in a lot of cases an unfair statement, because your love for someone is just a small portion of your make up. I can see the ladies out there ready to rebut, but it is...

Love is the greatest gift from God. It is related to a sense of strong affection and attachment. A PLEASURE to intense interpersonal attraction.
The real "love" . if you love someone just say so. If you like her/him don't say you love her/him... you like her u don't love her.
If there is "love" there is peace and happiness .Lets live a life to the fullest. -
To TheArchon,
How about parent love to their children? Are those parents weak?
For me love is allowing our weakest spot to be connected to another person or to another thing. Therefore unwisely use of love will hurt you.
So why do people love?
Because we are wired in our DNA to life in a group, our life is to depend on others, love is part of that characteristic that making us together.
Human race survive and continue to populating the world is because we able to socialize, and able love. seeking to build rather than destroy.-
"How about parent love to their children? Are those parents weak?"
Yes. Parental love is the product of mortality, which is a weakness. One "solves" their mortality through their children. If one were immortal, and thus perfectly strong (not weak at all) they would never develop parental love. There would be no necessity to.
The property of mortality, a weakness, entails a natural selection favoring organisms that become attached to their offspring, as this increases the chances of the specific genes surviving.
Love itself is also a weakness. It is an attachment to something other than yourself. Thus, even on a personal level, beyond evolutionary reasoning, such parents are weaker than they otherwise would be if they did not love their children (and, further, if they never had children in the first place).
"Because we are wired in our DNA to life in a group, our life is to depend on others, love is part of that characteristic that making us together."
I agree. Although, saying "our life is to depend on others" is not the most precise way of conveying the proposition. Everyone is dependent on others, to one degree or another. This entails the evolution of love, which enables the formation of social unions by overriding the more fundamental fight/flight reaction (which is antagonistic to forming social unions). Those organisms whose physical capacities were mostly insufficient for self-survival that failed to develop love as a chemical inebriation to disable the fight/flight reaction and enable social organization died out.

There's the sharing of intimacy, the spiritual transcendence one experiences with another.. also when we make love, the brain releases an oxygen based healing chemical into our system, so we get 'rewarded' with better health, feelings of purification..
We get positive vibes on the spiritual and physical sides. what more could one want? Love seems to be the key, doesn't it? ..and on the procreative side, all the pleasure and healing we get leads to procreation, so it's all in the Creator's master plan. Someone told me "sex was the original sin" - are you kidding? HOW would the race thrive and survive? WHAT IDIOTS the PURITANS are! They deny their own God's "plan"!!
Materialism kills it all: religion, wisdom, spirituality.. this is all beyond materialism..
