Yesterday, my father and I watched this horrific movie on the Sci Fi Channel, and by horrific I mean bad. It was about a prehistoric croc killing all these stupid people in Hawaii. There was bad acting, bad plot, and bad special effects. But we both sat there for two hours and watched. Can anyone explain to me WHY we watch bad movie?!

For me, I couldn't be bothered to reach for the remote - well that was my excuse last night as I endured roughly two hours of My Super Ex-Girlfriend.
Other times, it's b/c I hope things get better, there's nothing else on, bad movies can be fun esp when with the right company, or we secretly want to see what we know is about to happen, happen

That Super ex girlfriend is awful one of the worst films I have ever seen.

What!!? I thought that film was a documentary!

I loved My Super Ex-Girlfriend. It was a hoot.

I only wanted to watch it because it's an excuse to ogle at Uma but fifteen minutes was all I could stand, they go on about water boarding as torture they should ban this too.

@anin, Come on, I know you watched it to take notes really.

Never heard of it. Is it worth finding out?

Definitely not worth it, but that doesn't mean you can't

Have you not seen those Hulu commercials? Such movies tranquilize you while the alien zombies prepare to eat your brains. In part, the train wreck effect also takes place - it's horrible, but you can't look away.

I love those HULU commercials! The first one caught me off guard and made me laugh out loud!

      I love that commerical!

Some movies are so bad, they're good and finally receive cult status!

Those are the ones I like. I figure since I have a humor blog, it's at the very least post-fodder.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Some of my favourite films are bad films"Plan 9 from outer space" and "Teenagers from outer space" are brilliant.

We love bad movies because we can make up our own mock narrations and make fun of the whole idea. I always enjoyed imitating Dick Lane (of Roller Derby fame) whenever Godzilla was on.

From whence came MST3K, which always reminds me of hubby and me watching a bad movie. You should have heard me when he made me watch "Balls of Fury".

Please strike the "From" from that last post, in the interests of reducing redundancy. [smacks forehead]

I lose interest after a few minutes. I don't really watch bad movies all the way through.

I love bad movies! Like Lynnea mentioned, they're fun to make fun of, they're fun to watch, they're fun to elevate to cult status.

What I don't like watching are good movies that flop. They're supposed to be good, the writers are top notch, the actors are top of the line, big budget, good director and yet....*FLOP!*

    But B-rated bad movies? Hellsyeah!

I got that impression with Funny Girl. The first 10 minutes are very funny. The last 10 minutes are very funny. What do you do in-between? Go out and see another movie.

I love bad movies. I could make a list of movies that goes on forever about the bad movies I adore. I think quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen that I still watch whenever its on TV is "From Kelly to Justin" the American Idol movie. I love it in a really "its so bad its good" way.
    1. LynneaUrania
"King Kong" was like that. And how about "The Day the Earth Stood Still" or "Them?"

I'm beginning to hum, "The Cockroach that Ate Cincinnati."

Bad isn't the sin in moviemaking. Boring is the sin filmmakers should avoid. Bad can be funny, bad can be interesting -- just not for the reasons the filmmakers intended.

Come to think of it, bad movies would not be watched at all if there wasn't something in it that made you watch.

You should ask homer simpson when he said something like below:
"bla bla bla ... especially you."

what is that the bla bla bla on his sentence? just find those words by yourself.

It's the same as watching or listening to grand operas. You may not like the idea of listening to opera singers, but others do because they have passionate interest in this art of singing. There are those who watch bad movie for a change, or for the satisfaction it brings to them.

When it comes to movies, the term "bad" has a different meaning. It's not like bad food or bad medicine. Describing a movie as "bad" could mean stupid funny like an Adam Sandler movie, which are some of the worst rated movies in history but at the same time he has blockbusters. Sometimes we like to be "dumbed down" to be entertained.

    Here's another one: Tommy Boy!
  14. LadySwan
Yah I agree Tommy Boy was bad. But I just remembered that the worst movie I ever saw in the theater was Conact with Jody Foster despite it getting rave reviews. I remember verbally calling out something in the theater that made some people mad at me and some giggled. And for the record, the original Day the Earth Stood Still was the best Sci Fi for the time but I do agree that "It's Them Alright" was so bad it was comical, which come to think of it is actually good (now I got a headache).

Sometimes I do it because a part of me hopes to be proved wrong
  16. KiefersCorner
I give a movie about five minutes to capture my attention.

After that i wont waste my time.

These bad movies are mostly thrillers with cheap scripts, comedy and then romance. Thrillers, Comedy and Romance are the favorite genres of the public. So no matter how bad it is, just as long there's action, something to laugh at and characters falling in love, people wouldn't mind.

because real life sucks, and sometimes it is nice to watch something so gratuitously violent and ridiculous to just escape from reality. Sad dramas and those sorts of films have their place, but boy do I enjoy a stupid movie about people blowing crap up.
