I don't know, I have a friend that just loves shoes but I can't understand it either!
  2. NutriGirl
Men, help us understand why you notice us more when we wear high-heels? But frankly, some women are plainly obsessive about buying shoes. Some buy shoes because they can't buy clothes as they don't fit. Others - because it creates a beautiful look. I buy shoes because I like the way I look an because some shoes are so beautiful they are like art, although my shoes collection is really small, I choose quality over quantity and buy about 4 pairs a year.
    1. loverofjazz
big legs in high heel pumps are sexy.
    2. EnergyNoCrash
It makes your calves look great that's why.
  3. myriadlife
WE love jewellery, clothes, shoes, scarves, perfume too! Same as men love cars, motorbikes, fishing, cufflinks etc. We all need that feelgood factor in our lives.
  4. Epicharis
I hate shoes, or rather, I hate uncomfortable impractical shoes! I don't understand the point of them. I think women who wear them must be lacking a few cells in the brain department... And myriadlife, we don't all love jewellery, clothes, shoes, scarves and perfume...don't stereotype us...and don't stereotype men either!

I wrote a post about this a while ago after having to return from a very expensive ball after only a few hours (when we got there late anyway) because my friends' feet were hurting!

    siuilaruin.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/sensible-shoes/

(Sorry...didn't mean to promote my blog in such a vulgar way! ...but I think those of you who are baffled by the girly obsession with shoes and make-up will find it amusing!)
    1. EnergyNoCrash
I probably should have said, "why do some women love shoes?" Bad man sterotyping. Great post
    2. myriadlife
Ok I am sure most men love shoes, jewellery, scarves, perfume etc too as well as women who love cars, motorbikes, fishing etc but let's face it this is a stereotypical question stereotyping women anyhow!

And yes anyone who chooses shoes which aren't comfortable must be lacking in the brain cell department as you can still get pretty shoes without the discomfort. Doesn't say much for your friend!
    3. Epicharis
Come on...you can't wear high heels all day, can you? Not if you're on your feet all day...other shoes you can!
    4. Prisqua
What I don't understand is women that wear high heels and don't know how to walk in them or are very uncomfortable or even in pain! If you can't then don't... that is just my opinion...

Personally the only flat shoes I own are my sport shoes... Some of my high heels are not very comfy so I rarely wear them or wear them when I know it is going to be for a short time and I can handle it.

One time I was running after a client who forgot something and a woman said: omg I have never seen anyone run so fast with high heels! Lol

When I was a teen I had to wear special soles in my shoes as my shoes would last for a couple of weeks, then Mother realized that wearing high heels improved it so as I grew older my heels got higher too.

Yes I love buying shoes more than buying jewelery...
  5. lotusb
I can't speak for every woman. I wouldn't say "women" but some women love shoes, because some women like to look their best. And shoes can make or break an outfit. Their fun to wear, they make our legs look great, they compliment our style, their expensive and fun to buy. So many reasons...
  6. tiggyblog
    I don't like shoes. I prefer motorcycles.
    1. legbamel
I like both, but at least I know enough not to wear heels or sandals on a bike, unlike so many of the idiots I see around town.

I'm very much a shoe bargain hunter. I won't pay more than maybe $30 for a pair of shoes, but I've gotten some terrific pairs for less than that by haunting the clearance sections of expensive stores. I also have my cheap-o day-to-day slop shoes. But really nice shoes make you feel good about the way you look and there's so much variety out there that you can find something to suit your particular taste, if you're willing to be choosy.

I don't get owning dozens of pairs, though. I have maybe 12, and most of those I won't wear in the winter as you just can't get them wet and expect them to retain their shape. Three of the 12 pairs are winter boots (brown, black, and cluncky snow boots for playing outside with the kids or shoveling the walk).
  7. MadameX
I have no idea. 90% of the time I wear the same pair of flat black shoes that I bought at WalMart for something like $13 a few years ago (to replace a similar pair that wore out).
  8. satijournal
My wife has about 50 pairs of shoes. I don't understand it, nor do I question it. It's just the way it is.
    1. MadameX
If I had fifty pairs of shoes, we'd have to move.
    2. gentledove
She wants you to buy 50 outfits to match with them. go on don't be mean.
  9. Shiley
Can't speak for everybody. Me, personally, I love, love, love shoes. I go to a shoe store and drool. I love thet way they look. For me, shoes go with an outfit. If I buy a new outfit I have to buy complimenting shoes. Until I met my husband I had 76 pairs of shoes. I miss my shoe collection a great deal. I had a pair for every outfit.
    1. MadameX
Shirley, did you have to toss them out to make room for him?
    2. Shiley
Lol! No, I made a lot of stupid mistakes and was evicted from my apartment. If I hadn't made those mistakes I probably wouldn't have my kids so it all ended for the better and taught me how to be more responsible in the long run. He wishes I still had those shoes because I look longingly in every shoe store. I am a reformed shopaholic so it's not just shoes that were my big mistake.
  10. theliterate
I love shoes too! I don't own a lot of pairs though. As a student, shoes are not a priority.

I just lvoe them though I can't explain the attraction. It's a nice way to camouflage my hideous feet.
  11. MidwestMom
I love being in my bare feet.

In fact, my mother used to scold me for leaving my shoes places and coming home without them.
  12. brainbubble
There's something about stepping into a beautifully crafted pair of shoes. It can transform my entire day - I walk a little taller (and I'm 5'10" to begin with), I feel a little sexier and they're just plain empowering. (in a fun way)
  13. klaraau01
Its a "woman's thing" - please don't try to understand, there is no logic to it...
  14. cb
Shoes, like jewellery don't get too small when you put on weight..
    1. SweetViolet
No, only when you break your ankle and then, two years later, severely sprain the other one. It has been more than 5 years since I broke my ankle and I STILL can't get my favourite boots on!

And those rings that are too tight? Arthritis has swollen my knuckles...
  15. faithsju243
I can't explain it but there's something about a great pair of shoes that just does it for me.

I stopped counting shoes when I began hoarding the ones that I couldn't fit in my closet in the trunk of my car, I'm addicted but I'm no quitter.
  16. chacham100
Because women are incarnation of octopus! Kidding! Ha!

We just do. Our feet makes us comfortable.
  17. flamingpoodle
Because she needs a new pair for each man she walks over.
    1. EnergyNoCrash
You're on your own with that one poodle!
  18. Prisqua
Some women love jewelery, some love clothes, some love chocolate, some prefers shoes....
Quoting from myriadlife, why do men love cars, motorbikes, fishing, cufflinks etc...?
    1. SweetViolet
For my husband it is cars, watches, cars, gadgets, cars, red wine, and cars.
  19. EnergyNoCrash
Come on ladies! There's a big difference between cars and shoes. Most guys don't have 50 cars either. Well some do but that's another topic.
    1. Prisqua
They don't "all" have the cars but most of them have piles of car mags scattered all around the home lol and spend hours in front of a car at car shows... or just watching for hours their "mates' new set of wheels"... lol
At least shoes are cheaper and easier to park...
    2. legbamel
Well, consider how many shoes you could buy and store with the same amount of money and space required for even a project car. Hubby has a car, a truck, and a motorcycle. He ought to be buying shoes for me, to pay rent for the garage and driveway space I can't use.
  20. VideoProductionTip
I am not into shoes at all. I am with the guys here and have no clue why so many women go gaa-gaa over shoes! I'm just a weird-o I guess.
I love having nice clothes because I feel like that helps me look pretty, but I do not much care for shoes. In fact i am well known for wearing my athletic shoes with pretty dresses. Heck, I just wanna be comfy!
  21. HorsePucky
Women love shoes for the same reason men love shoes...they keep our feet warm.
  22. HorsePucky
Oh, I almost forgot...shoes keep the horse pucky from squishing between our toes.
  23. dhodot
mmm..shoes makers understand about love. In case, men buy the women shoes because of love. Thus, shoes makers love men with love to women for bucks. So, it depends on love. On the name of love, 'shoes' love women.

Logically, women love shoes because they have no love...haha..ups.
  24. amitchopra22
actually they like differnt colours, somewhat like matching everything to their clothes.and
some changes so that they can easily beat bad man with their different sandals. hahahahaa
  25. sisterofmercy
I can't understand why women like heels, but I can understand why they like boots. Boots like Dr. Marten and Converse come in loads of different designs and Martens are very durable so they last through the winter. In short, they're pretty
  26. kaylinmarie
I hate shoes actually. I wear flip flops, moccasins, or sweater boots most of the time...or flats. Things that can go with everything, cause I hate picking out shoes. I hate heels.
    1. dhodot
      Feel ..rrrhh.. free, yeap?
  27. cserpentDesigns
Um - I don't love shoes! Actually kaylinmarie and I have similar tastes - I would just add Crocs to the list - I love them - wear them almost exclusively - well maybe not when I play soccer - LOL!
    1. kaylinmarie
I have a pair of crocs too, I used to wear them to work when I was on my feet everyday, they really did help a ton!
  28. freeatlast
Shoes will fit you no matter how much weight you've gained or lost.
  29. SandraS
I don't. I have one pair. It's all I need. I have never understood why women need 100 pairs.
  30. Sultana22
I have a lot of shoes, some that I've never worn! I know its kinda ridiculous but i don't even realize it that i am a shoeaholic which is even worse.
  31. s32i4health
Because women love shopping i think, and shoes are the one from many their "shopping object"...
  32. SweetViolet
Shoes are fashion accessories and only incidentally foot coverings.

That being the case, just like I have dozens of pairs of earrings in various colours, styles (formal and informal), so I have dozens of pairs of shoes.

Oh, and it is NOT a shopping thing...I don't like shopping.

And it's not a girl thing, either...my husband has more shoes than I do...and his cost a great deal more than mine do, too! I don't have any Kenneth Cole, Crockett & Jones, Nike, or Aldo shoes... My most expensive pair of shoes cost about R400...about $40. He has shoes he paid nearly R1000 ($100) for!
  33. thenorrlander
Because shoes are an important part of an outfit! If you have ugly shoes on, you ruin your whole outfit!
    It's as simple as that

    thenorrlander.wordpress.com
  34. tkel85
Because I hate feet...why not cover them up in something beautiful?
  35. QueensOnly
We love shoes because they come in multitudes of colors the same way our clothing do.
  36. FameofShame
What about those guys that are sneakerphiles and buy expensive Jordans and what not? I like having nice shoes and sneakers, but I only have like 8 pairs of hoof covers in all.
  37. Jeunelle
Now this is a good question because I never could figure out what the big deal is about high heel.
I like to be able to run and make my getaway quick, in case of a bomb scare, or attempted mugging and I have to hurdle over a few cabbage heads in the subway, personally I prefer sneakers.
  38. KittyKat53
Shoes complete the outfit, shoes can change the outfit from day to evening. Pants are different lengths so shoes with different heel height are needed. Different shoes for capris, shorts, pants, skirts, yada yada yada...get the picture. and then styles change every year. Oh and EnergyNoCrash...they're something to fantasize about.
  39. Bonnielicious
Shoes are cool but I'm a sunglasses girl myself, love them. Although I bought myself 3 pairs of shoes for xmas which I am VERY excited about! But I don't like them any more than I like other items of clothes.
  40. ceo08
    1) They make our legs look better (even if we already have hot legs)
    2) If you are feeling like you've gained 10 lbs, your shoes always fit just right

    3) They are lovely accessories to compliment just the right outfit
  41. jonrs
Why not? shoes is one of the obsessions of women..
  42. ranist22
So that they can throw them...ahem...at people who annoy them!
    1. Jeunelle
Yeah like Pres. Bush www.SockandAwe.com make it hurt.
  43. searchingwithin
Because they go with our outfit and purse silly. Thought you all knew that.

LOL, I have a variety with different heels and colors, mainly so I can find a pair to match an outfit.
  44. CrystalRaven
Not into shoes, have 3 pairs, 1 flats, 1 heels and 1 boots (which aren't really shoes).
Now hats are a different matter, I love hats and am constantly looking and sighing wistfully at some hat or another, but I never buy them as I think people will think I look funny and laugh or I don't think it would go with any of my outfits
  45. timethief
I have dozens of pairs of shoes with handbags to match. My hat collection and my earring collection are huge. I have closets and bureaus full of great clothes I rarely ever wear any more now that I work at home.
  46. lightzoldiac
I think because they want to look fab and glam from head to toe. That's what I think. hahaha!

    from:
    ezinemax.com
  47. MissChrisette
they're gorgeous! oh and the way they look on women.
  48. fczamora
they pretty simple to collect and show off to their friends than jewelry that might attract robbers, etc.. LOL
  49. busylizzy
I hate shoes. I'd rather be barefoot in Tahiti!
  50. sensico
sorry, Im not able to be a stereotype, but Im not a shoe girl. I find it excessive and cost consuming to buy shoes that you are barely going to wear. I have a basic pair of gym shoes, and some pairs of dress shoes and thats it.
  51. Livinginthepast
Well, I sure don't *obsess* over shoes, but I do have quite a lot. It's to do with how many different occasions and outfits we women have- men can get away with 'good shoes, ordinary shoes, and really old shoes'. But we have to colour match, have formal/non formal for different situations, sandals, closed in, heel, sneakers, etc etc.
  52. KaiteeThePirate
I've never understood the fascination personally. I probably have the least interesting shoe collection in the history of women. Three pairs of docs, some uncomfortable sparkly things for when I have to look presentable, two pairs of bicycle clip shoes and a pair of runners for the gym.

I wear docs with everything because they're comfortable. I don't particularly care how stupid I look.
    1. EmpressWingMay
      I'm with you, KaiteeThePirate!
  53. SweetViolet
I spend more on pedicures than on shoes. Summers are long and hot here in South Africa, and in Cape Town, the look is casual. And although I have dozens of pairs of shoes, I have just two pair that I wear most: a pair of black leather clogs for winter and a pair of black leather thong sandals in summer.

But I have "outfits" for "occasions" and those outfits demand something other than rubber-bottomed clogs or plain black sandals. So I have a collection of shoes that mix and match with the various outfits.

I also brought all my cowboy boots, which I wore often in the States, but they don't seem to get much action here...
  54. ViNZ20
Shoes are the women fetishism. Without shoes in their wardrobe, their fashion life wont be complete.
  55. EmpressWingMay
I don't love shoes. I own 10 pairs. I also hate shopping. Shock horror!

Come on, would some men like looking at women's legs if those women wore the same pair of clunky, orthopedic shoes every day? (Turnabout is fair play!)
  56. Jules66
I am not that into shoes anymore, or buying heaps of clothes and keeping up with all the latest fashions.
  57. Myheroinhead
Because loving a man is impossible.
  58. KristinaMay
Forget "Why do Women love shoes?".

How about "Why so many sweeping generalisations?"

    To illustrate I have:
    1 pair walking boots
1 pair steel-toed with holes in
    1 pair sandals
2 pairs normal shoes (1 smart bright red and other should be in bin)

That's 5 pairs wearable and only 2 pairs suitable in cold or wet weather.
Not a heel to be seen on any of them and I'll have you know my male partner has a couple more choices than I do because people buy him shoes but not me.

I realised recently I had absolutely none suitable for a funeral, but I didn't buy any (money's precious).

I hate wearing shoes and they're such a small part of my life that I can't believe I've joined a discussion thread about them.

So what was the question again?
  59. fruitcake
The more shoes, the easier to step on and squish a weak man's heart...

Seriously though...everybody has their own "thing"
  60. fearless21
    Why do men like tools?
  61. verollete
i love men and shoes hheheh
  62. MrsBlog
My own theory - since yesterday really - is that all this shoes-issue comes from ... BARBIE

(The Barbie discussion is here in case you would like to join...http://www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/barbie-the-hero-or-the-evil)
  63. askcherlock
Shoes are like theater. They can make the look dramatic or subtle. High heals are great only if you are with a "leg man" but still fun to wear---sometimes.
  64. marrysoe

  65. trueurbanqueen
Well, I love shoes and high heels are my favorite. And I have many upon many of them.
I love they why they make me feel and look.
I feel empowered, sexy, strong. . .I can go on.
And yes I am all these things without heels, but I love how they add to the momentum.
  66. fashionista2013
We love shoes because even if your not wearing a great or flattering outfit, if you have great shoes, you're all set! One time my friend wore a H&M dress and Burberry shoes and everyone thought the dress was Burberry too!
And as trueurbanqueen said, "I feel empowered, sexy stong..." and I think all women do with the right pair of shoes.
  67. melindaville
I don't know why! Because we have a gene for shoes, just like most men have a gene for sports!
  68. Flipnautick
No woman can ever love shoes more than I love Nike sneakers and retro Air Jordans.
  69. PussDaddy
I really don't know. I have about 15 pair that I have never worn myself.
  70. travelingangela
I don't love shoes. I only got like 4 pairs and that's it. I like chocolates and men
  71. onceafortnight
I hate shoes - I hate buying them and they look ugly on my feet!
  72. rajendradhakal
they love shoes because it's cheap then other jeweleries and other expensive objects
  73. jflower36
Women love shoes the same reason they love clothes. A new outfit isn't complete without a new pair of shoes to go with the outfit. I'm not really a shoe gal though. I have a bunch of shoes but tend to prefer to wear the same 2-3 pairs.
  74. xyzstyle
Ashton Kutcher said it best! In a woman's mind, things are ranked like this:
    1) Shoes
    2) Bag
    3) Clothes
    4) Jewelry, including the man on her arm.

Hahhaa...the point is, SHOES are VERY important. You change your clothes every day, but you can wear one pair of shoes with many different outfits, so it's very important to have great shoes. Also, there are only SO many ways you can wear a top or pants--but the structure of your feet, particularly women, allows a lot of room for innovation.
I personally think it's VERY important for a woman to wear nice shoes.
Remember this quote: "Wear nice shoes because they will take you to nice places!"
  75. TonyB
Exact same reason why men love women.
  76. shraqshaq77
This is tough question dude. I've been married for around 5 years now, and until now I still don't understand it.
  77. blindcat
becouse its part of Fashion , if your updated of fashion we feel like we are beatiful
  78. Mariya
Wow, what a great subject you brought for discussion! It is hard to explain for me, WHY we love shoes... We just love, love, love them!
  79. LolitaV
because they give our legs orgasms
  80. Selvinas
I think it's because shoes look good on every woman. And they give me a good feeling even though I don't have a lot.
I like my shoes to stand out of everyone else's and to be feminine, it makes me happy when they do.

Some it gives confidence and some just want to get attention from men. And others don't care at all and would wear everything.
  81. gonegaga
i love shoes, but i try not to own too many. i only go for the ones that stand out and are comfortable to walk in at the same time. usually, women buy fab shoes to pamper ourselves and not exactly to attract men--buy a pretty dress instead ;), because our shoes are among the last things they'd notice. shoes would have been the crowning glory if we were upside-down.
  82. christibroer
    Not all of us do!
  83. crazyTsu
Try teasing her on the street and you may find out what she does with her shoes
  84. sexnfries
I personally hate shoes, I would not wear them at all if it was possible. I just bare feet, in the summer I pack away my socks and shoes, wear bare minium to go out, and even buy the cheapest ones I can. So too many shoes or too few shoes..who is weird here...lol
  85. AnastasiaFB
    Because they have feet? :-))
    1. alivasim
      really???
  86. Spootmyway
    Fashion and Style!
  87. greenindia
Its got a second use. Use against the cheek of whom they doesn't like.
  88. tarahlynn
I think women love shoes because they make us feel good about ourselves. It's the same with people, a good man reminds us that we're beautiful and he makes us feel good about who we are. Jewelry, perfume a lot of the things that we surround ourselves with help our self esteem.
    1. harveyavatar
Maybe this is because in the age of "quantity", good has become a synonym of possession?

I think women loving shoes is just a myth. I buy only the shoes I need and only in practical colors so they will go with a wide variety of clothes.
