Men, help us understand why you notice us more when we wear high-heels?
But frankly, some women are plainly obsessive about buying shoes. Some buy shoes because they can't buy clothes as they don't fit. Others - because it creates a beautiful look. I buy shoes because I like the way I look an because some shoes are so beautiful they are like art, although my shoes collection is really small, I choose quality over quantity and buy about 4 pairs a year. -
I hate shoes, or rather, I hate uncomfortable impractical shoes! I don't understand the point of them. I think women who wear them must be lacking a few cells in the brain department... And myriadlife, we don't all love jewellery, clothes, shoes, scarves and perfume...don't stereotype us...and don't stereotype men either!
I wrote a post about this a while ago after having to return from a very expensive ball after only a few hours (when we got there late anyway) because my friends' feet were hurting!
siuilaruin.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/sensible-shoes/
(Sorry...didn't mean to promote my blog in such a vulgar way! ...but I think those of you who are baffled by the girly obsession with shoes and make-up will find it amusing!)-
Ok I am sure most men love shoes, jewellery, scarves, perfume etc too as well as women who love cars, motorbikes, fishing etc but let's face it this is a stereotypical question stereotyping women anyhow!
And yes anyone who chooses shoes which aren't comfortable must be lacking in the brain cell department as you can still get pretty shoes without the discomfort. Doesn't say much for your friend! -
What I don't understand is women that wear high heels and don't know how to walk in them or are very uncomfortable or even in pain! If you can't then don't... that is just my opinion...
Personally the only flat shoes I own are my sport shoes... Some of my high heels are not very comfy so I rarely wear them or wear them when I know it is going to be for a short time and I can handle it.
One time I was running after a client who forgot something and a woman said: omg I have never seen anyone run so fast with high heels! Lol
When I was a teen I had to wear special soles in my shoes as my shoes would last for a couple of weeks, then Mother realized that wearing high heels improved it so as I grew older my heels got higher too.
Yes I love buying shoes more than buying jewelery...

I like both, but at least I know enough not to wear heels or sandals on a bike, unlike so many of the idiots I see around town.
I'm very much a shoe bargain hunter. I won't pay more than maybe $30 for a pair of shoes, but I've gotten some terrific pairs for less than that by haunting the clearance sections of expensive stores. I also have my cheap-o day-to-day slop shoes. But really nice shoes make you feel good about the way you look and there's so much variety out there that you can find something to suit your particular taste, if you're willing to be choosy.
I don't get owning dozens of pairs, though. I have maybe 12, and most of those I won't wear in the winter as you just can't get them wet and expect them to retain their shape. Three of the 12 pairs are winter boots (brown, black, and cluncky snow boots for playing outside with the kids or shoveling the walk).

My wife has about 50 pairs of shoes. I don't understand it, nor do I question it. It's just the way it is.
-
Can't speak for everybody. Me, personally, I love, love, love shoes. I go to a shoe store and drool. I love thet way they look. For me, shoes go with an outfit. If I buy a new outfit I have to buy complimenting shoes. Until I met my husband I had 76 pairs of shoes. I miss my shoe collection a great deal. I had a pair for every outfit.
-
Lol!
No, I made a lot of stupid mistakes and was evicted from my apartment. If I hadn't made those mistakes I probably wouldn't have my kids so it all ended for the better and taught me how to be more responsible in the long run. He wishes I still had those shoes because I look longingly in every shoe store. I am a reformed shopaholic so it's not just shoes that were my big mistake.

Some women love jewelery, some love clothes, some love chocolate, some prefers shoes....
Quoting from myriadlife, why do men love cars, motorbikes, fishing, cufflinks etc...? -
Come on ladies! There's a big difference between cars and shoes. Most guys don't have 50 cars either. Well some do but that's another topic.
-
I am not into shoes at all. I am with the guys here and have no clue why so many women go gaa-gaa over shoes! I'm just a weird-o I guess.
I love having nice clothes because I feel like that helps me look pretty, but I do not much care for shoes. In fact i am well known for wearing my athletic shoes with pretty dresses. Heck, I just wanna be comfy! -
I hate shoes actually. I wear flip flops, moccasins, or sweater boots most of the time...or flats. Things that can go with everything, cause I hate picking out shoes. I hate heels.
-
Um - I don't love shoes! Actually kaylinmarie and I have similar tastes - I would just add Crocs to the list - I love them - wear them almost exclusively - well maybe not when I play soccer - LOL!
-
Shoes are fashion accessories and only incidentally foot coverings.
That being the case, just like I have dozens of pairs of earrings in various colours, styles (formal and informal), so I have dozens of pairs of shoes.
Oh, and it is NOT a shopping thing...I don't like shopping.
And it's not a girl thing, either...my husband has more shoes than I do...and his cost a great deal more than mine do, too! I don't have any Kenneth Cole, Crockett & Jones, Nike, or Aldo shoes... My most expensive pair of shoes cost about R400...about $40. He has shoes he paid nearly R1000 ($100) for! -
Because shoes are an important part of an outfit! If you have ugly shoes on, you ruin your whole outfit!
It's as simple as that

Shoes complete the outfit, shoes can change the outfit from day to evening. Pants are different lengths so shoes with different heel height are needed. Different shoes for capris, shorts, pants, skirts, yada yada yada...get the picture. and then styles change every year. Oh and EnergyNoCrash...they're something to fantasize about.

Yeah like Pres. Bush www.SockandAwe.com make it hurt.

Not into shoes, have 3 pairs, 1 flats, 1 heels and 1 boots (which aren't really shoes).
Now hats are a different matter, I love hats and am constantly looking and sighing wistfully at some hat or another, but I never buy them as I think people will think I look funny and laugh or I don't think it would go with any of my outfits
-
I think because they want to look fab and glam from head to toe. That's what I think. hahaha!

Well, I sure don't *obsess* over shoes, but I do have quite a lot. It's to do with how many different occasions and outfits we women have- men can get away with 'good shoes, ordinary shoes, and really old shoes'. But we have to colour match, have formal/non formal for different situations, sandals, closed in, heel, sneakers, etc etc.
-
I've never understood the fascination personally. I probably have the least interesting shoe collection in the history of women. Three pairs of docs, some uncomfortable sparkly things for when I have to look presentable, two pairs of bicycle clip shoes and a pair of runners for the gym.
I wear docs with everything because they're comfortable. I don't particularly care how stupid I look. -
I spend more on pedicures than on shoes. Summers are long and hot here in South Africa, and in Cape Town, the look is casual. And although I have dozens of pairs of shoes, I have just two pair that I wear most: a pair of black leather clogs for winter and a pair of black leather thong sandals in summer.
But I have "outfits" for "occasions" and those outfits demand something other than rubber-bottomed clogs or plain black sandals. So I have a collection of shoes that mix and match with the various outfits.
I also brought all my cowboy boots, which I wore often in the States, but they don't seem to get much action here... -
Forget "Why do Women love shoes?".
How about "Why so many sweeping generalisations?"
To illustrate I have:
1 pair walking boots
1 pair steel-toed with holes in
1 pair sandals
2 pairs normal shoes (1 smart bright red and other should be in bin)
That's 5 pairs wearable and only 2 pairs suitable in cold or wet weather.
Not a heel to be seen on any of them and I'll have you know my male partner has a couple more choices than I do because people buy him shoes but not me.
I realised recently I had absolutely none suitable for a funeral, but I didn't buy any (money's precious).
I hate wearing shoes and they're such a small part of my life that I can't believe I've joined a discussion thread about them.
So what was the question again? -
Hi there....You can lower your daily hazard consumption by wear less make up or nothing at all ! If you are interested with this campaign, you can join me by sent me your photos with and without make up here : beautyonwatch.wordpress.com/less-is-more/ and I’ll post it here.
Let’s spread our ‘less make up virus’ to women around the world and save more lifes !
We fight harmful chemical ingredients in cosmetics and replace them with safer alternatives. We also share news about lethal injection, deadly surgery, skin whitening horror and rate hazard score in your cosmetics product.
The less you use cosmetics, the more you save your life. -
We love shoes because even if your not wearing a great or flattering outfit, if you have great shoes, you're all set! One time my friend wore a H&M dress and Burberry shoes and everyone thought the dress was Burberry too!
And as trueurbanqueen said, "I feel empowered, sexy stong..." and I think all women do with the right pair of shoes. -
Ashton Kutcher said it best! In a woman's mind, things are ranked like this:
1) Shoes
2) Bag
3) Clothes
4) Jewelry, including the man on her arm.
Hahhaa...the point is, SHOES are VERY important. You change your clothes every day, but you can wear one pair of shoes with many different outfits, so it's very important to have great shoes. Also, there are only SO many ways you can wear a top or pants--but the structure of your feet, particularly women, allows a lot of room for innovation.
I personally think it's VERY important for a woman to wear nice shoes.
Remember this quote: "Wear nice shoes because they will take you to nice places!" -
I think it's because shoes look good on every woman. And they give me a good feeling even though I don't have a lot.
I like my shoes to stand out of everyone else's and to be feminine, it makes me happy when they do.
Some it gives confidence and some just want to get attention from men. And others don't care at all and would wear everything. -
i love shoes, but i try not to own too many. i only go for the ones that stand out and are comfortable to walk in at the same time. usually, women buy fab shoes to pamper ourselves and not exactly to attract men--buy a pretty dress instead ;), because our shoes are among the last things they'd notice.
shoes would have been the crowning glory if we were upside-down.

I think women love shoes because they make us feel good about ourselves. It's the same with people, a good man reminds us that we're beautiful and he makes us feel good about who we are. Jewelry, perfume a lot of the things that we surround ourselves with help our self esteem.
-
Maybe this is because in the age of "quantity", good has become a synonym of possession?
