I'm all girl and I am not into bling. Well, let me preface that: I am not into blood diamonds or precious stones. I'd rather spend money elsewhere.
    1. globalgirl
I lied. I do love jewelry. I even have a fair trade, eco-friendly jewelry business :-) BUT I am more concerned about the origin of the jewels. I love sapphires, peridot and rubies. :-)
    2. carlgalloway
None of those pesky conflict diamonds for you even if they are cheaper heh?

I've always been a fan of fair trade jewelry, they're made of such interesting stuff, bits of bark, weird stones, shells, much more interesting than boring gold or silver, and cheaper too which is great for guys.
    3. globalgirl
Our handcrafted fair trade jewelry is made with semi-precious stones, japanese miyuki beads, glass beads, czech beads and other. :-)

      hey globalgirl~
it's cool that you like the bling. nobody want to hear or buy diamond that came at the cost of a person's life. actually i feel the same way about aninmals that's why i'm a vegetarian. nevertheless, there is something about a shiny diamond ring that really gets a girls attention...
  2. carlgalloway
I'm all boy and I love bling; shiny wheels on my car, shiny ipod, shiny sunglasses that make me look menacing. Bling Bling.
  3. lisamcglaun
I don't care a thing about bling. I own one diamond..it's in my wedding ring.
    1. carlgalloway
You're married, NOOOOO, my life is over, sob.
    2. LGramlich
I'm with you on bling, except that my wedding ring doesn't even have a diamond (it was a $12 silver job that I don't even wear, actually. It irritates a knuckle in my pinky. We both feel that our intention is more important than any symbolic, materialistic dogma.)
    3. Diggidee
would you have been satisfied with a onxy instead of a diamond for your wedding ring?

would you have been satisfied with a onxy instead of a diamond for your wedding ring?
  4. webrunner
Ah shiny shiny object, must move towards shiny thingy...
    1. globalgirl
Um, you sound programmed. A perfect poster child
  5. JillSaxon
Why buy jewelry when you can get season tickets to watch the NINERS?
    1. globalgirl
      Who are the niners? :-)
    2. Diggidee
Great answer - but you must admit you do like a little bling on your finger!
  6. thesphinx
Women are into fashion and as much as possible, we tend to match our apparel with the right shoes, bags, and jewelry. It's not necessarily the expensive kind, there are a lot of fashion "blings" nowadays that look good and are still affordable. Men are concerned with a lot more things than fashion.
    1. LGramlich
Speak for yourself. THIS woman doesn't fit into your generalization.
  7. Shiley
I'm not into bling. I own my grams wedding ring, my own wedding ring, pearl earring and necklace for my wedding and a bunch of rings people give me that I never wear makes me feel bad about it.
    1. Diggidee
would you have been satisfied with a onxy instead of a diamond for your wedding ring?
  8. kdawg68
    dolla dolla bills ya'll?
    1. Diggidee
      no doubt!
  9. sophielc
I am a girl and not into jewels at all! I'd rather spend my money (or having someone spend money on me) buying useful stuff like a new car, chocolate, a house, chocolate, nice food, chocolate...Did I mention chocolate?
    1. Diggidee
so what you are saying your like chocolate.
check out my site that is still under construction

  10. Anok
Bling this - I hate it!

I wear my wedding ring, and that's it.
    1. Sylvia
I'm with you Anok....the only bling I need is my wedding band. The engagement ring didn't hurt either.
    2. ender
      yep

better question: why do some men assume that all women love the bling?
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Yeah, I usually tend to wear some kind of necklace. But I wouldn't exactly call one piece of costume jewelry "bling."
    4. Anok
Yup, and we didn't even buy my wedding set - it was a family heirloom!

I do have a necklace I wear form time to time, my Pentagram. But yeah, it's like pewter or something LOL not exactly "bling".
    5. Diggidee
is your wedding ring a diamond?
    6. ender
      no, mine's not. nice try.
    7. Anok
Yes it is, but it was also my Great Grandmother's. I would have chosen it even if it didn't have diamonds. I wear it for luck...
  11. jafabrit
NO me, buy me turps and paint, but ugh forget the Bling!
    1. Anok
Right? I'd much prefer clay, rubber and resin!
    2. jafabrit
      oh yes resin, YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    3. jafabrit
and glitter anok, don't forget the glitter.
    4. Diggidee
are you saying you would turn down a diamond ring?
    5. ender
i would turn one down, yes. i think diamonds are kinda ugly, to be honest.
    6. Anok
Yes I would, and I have.
  12. Mommy2Lots
I'm not really into the bling. I would wear it if it was purchased for me, but it's not really that big of a deal. I'd be more excited over a new book collection, something for my kids, or season tickets for basketball or football. LOL :-)
    1. Diggidee
aren't you sweet - low maintainance - your husband must appreciate that.
    2. Mommy2Lots
      Thanks. He sure does.
I do everything natural and homemade. I even school the kids at home. LOL
    3. Greekgeek
OOooo, SEASON TICKETS. Now you're talking! Except for me it's baseball, which unfortunately is a lot of tickets.

*whines about having to buy 15-game package this year because I couldn't afford any more*

18 days 10 hours 20 minutes until opening day... I can make it...
  13. aningeniousname
I think women love Bling so much because White Christmas was a great song and they are irresistibly attracted to a man smoking a pipe.
    1. Aprilfreelance
I think that was Bing, not Bling.
  14. Aprilfreelance
I'm not much into the "real" stuff. If it's costs more than $10, I have to giver serious consideration over whether to cough up the cash.
    1. Diggidee
you are right it was bing - not bling -
would you turn down a nice diamond ring?
  15. kristilinauer
I'm not into "bling". The only fine jewelry I wear is my wedding ring/engagement ring set, which is gorgeous, and I love it. I've also told my husband that at some point, I'd love to have 1 karat diamond earrings.

Other than that, I much prefer costume jewelry made of beads and baubles to complement a specific outfit. I do love shiny, sparkly jewelry, but it can be the cheap stuff.
    1. Diggidee
so you do like the bling?
  16. soarkaios
    I'm a guy and I live my diamonds ;o.
When I got my first job I bought myself a 2,000 dollar diamond watch, lol.
    1. Diggidee
right on! diamond watch i love it.
  17. Hippychikky
I only wear hemp jewelry that i have made. I do own a few rings from various flea markets. My wedding ring was 3 bucks. I hate diamonds and gold. So there are some chicks who dont like bling!
    1. Diggidee
i respect that - i was making a generalization. if women stop or boycott precious stones the business would go bankrupt. women's need for diamonds / bling supports the jewelry industry. you are the exception to the general rule.
    2. ender
umm, i think if you look at the responses here, you'll find she's not really an exception.
  18. crpitt
    Bling is Blech!!!!
  19. clioandme
Why are sexist topics so popular on BlogCatalog?
    Oh wait. They're not.
    1. Diggidee
      sexist!
    2. ender
      definitely sexist.
  20. DrowseyMonkey
lol stoneman. Yeah...I'm a girl too, well woman actually, and I never wear jewlery or bling.
    1. Diggidee
      why not?
    2. DrowseyMonkey
I dunno ... just doesn't appeal to me.
  21. offendedblogger
I'd rather spend my money on new arrows for my bow or gas for a road trip up to the sand dunes with my buggy, stuff like that is so much more fun than a rock on my finger!
    1. Diggidee
i hear you - but would you not accept a nice diamond ring?
    2. offendedblogger
Sure! Then I could pawn it and buy some nice broadheads or a new sight for my bow hehe.
    3. Greekgeek
Now there is another kindred spirit.

Archery is a lovely relaxing sport. Although I'm a pansy; I don't hunt, just target practice.
  22. ThriftShopRomantic
Hm... was this thread sponsored by Kay Jewelers or somethin'?
    1. ender
i'm thinking, after looking at the tags ... you're prolly right, TSR.
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
That'll teach me to be a wiseguy.
    3. Diggidee
no - i'm a guy living in los angeles, cali. the girl i've been seeing is love diamonds and rhinestones. her license plate frame has rhine stones around it. i like precious jewels, but they don't excite me like they seem to excite women. i was just getting some feedback.
      no i'm not from kay's. i'm a writer / entrepreneur.

check out my site -it offine i need to make some changes - and the book won't be released until the march 24.

  23. kevingoodman

    1. Anok
      What, are you a barracuda?
  24. riverstyxxx
Ah, the hot women who like guys with Money.

One site to answer this whole topic:

    hotchickswithdouchebags.com/
    1. Diggidee
      is that a bad thing?
  25. CleverElsie
Okay, here's my take on it:

I think women, in general, are more interested in aesthetics than men are. That's why women are usually more concerned about how the home looks (i.e. decorations, cleanliness, coordination, etc.), how their clothes look, how their hair looks, etc. Now, some of this may be in response to the value that men place on the female appearance, or it may be just a result of a greater female appreciation for beauty, or it could be some combination of both. Jewelry, like clothes, cosmetics, etc., is both seen as a beautiful object and as a beautifying tool. Therefore, it has great value to women.

In addition, society places a high monetary value on jewelry. Thus, it also acquires the cache of a status symbol. Since a man's status conveys evolutionary advantage, his ability to purchase jewelry is viewed favorably by women. Furthermore, his willingness to spend that money on her indicates to the woman that he prizes her.

if women are more interested in aesthetics than men, why are more working graphic designers, sculptors and the like men?
  26. MadameX
I had to open this thread to find out what "bling" was. Now that I know, I don't have an answer for you, because I neither own nor want any.
  27. daniel23
I got a pretty bling bling watch. Cost me seven quid and looks well posh!
    1. Anok
      Gimme. Now!
    2. daniel23
      It's shiny and bad-fitting. That's class.
    3. Anok
      Like your teeth!

      (OH!)
    4. daniel23
You don't know how unfortunately true.
    5. Anok
Aww, c'mere, lemme punch you for a little bit. I'll straighten those teeth right out! (And you'll like it too!)
    1. Anok
OK, OK, that was really really funny. I actually snorted a little....

Hey, where'd it go? You didn't take your image and go home, did you?
    2. daniel23
      I didn't think it worked.
  28. daniel23
Dammit. This whole pic thing is pissing me off!
  29. daniel23
    there you go!
  30. Greekgeek
    Diamonds? Rhinestones?
    Forget it!

Gimme a scanner. Or a new state-of-the-art laptop. Or, heck, if you're going to spend THAT much money, get me a working copy of Maya 3D, professional animation software.

Why do men assume that all women prefer rocks and jewelry to useful and cool toys?

The advertisers tell you this, of course. But surely you don't believe everything ads tell you!
    1. jonyx
Ah there we go! While I do like jewelry, I don't go out of my way for it or care about whether or not I get it. I actually bought two necklaces this year for the first time in about 7 years or so. They weren't pricey either (about $100 each). I bought one onyx ring for $8 as well a few months ago.

Most definitely prefer money spent on tech stuff, so much more fun and valuable. I spend about $3-4k on my frankenstein pc (build it myself, thank goodness for Google and all the tutorials lol). I could probably save more if I stopped getting top of the line products for every new pc, but I love spoiling my machines. The money is worth it when my PC goes vroom and lights up the room

And getting adobe suites, maya, etc is all like candy! They're infinitely useful, get giddy just installing them. Now, be right back as I seem to have dropped my casual but still sexy chic, nerdlinger hat.
  31. Beverlysadvice
My opinion is that there are a lot of insecure women out in the world that want the bling so people will pay attention to them. I have some nice pieces, but I use them sparingly so they will complement my outfit. More attention should be paid to how they look in their clothes. Please visit my website when you get a chance www.stylishplusclothes.com. Then check out www.CheapProductsForLess.com and click on the Adsense Ads I have on my website to help me earn a little money. Enjoy!

  33. crazyTsu
If women are so easy to please this way, then why not?
