Twitter as you all know has been very popular lately. Some says it is over rated, while others simply love it, making statements that it drives massive traffic to their blogs.
How about you? Where do you stand to this simple question, in which I hope you can answer in 140 characters or less.
Why do you Twitter?

Twitter gives me the possibility to find updated news, specially those that are related to my topic. It is also great to learn how to write great Titles.

I originally got a twitter account for chatting purposes. Currently I'm using it to notify followers of my posts immediately after publication. Up until now I have not invested much time on twitter and I have not had a traffic inflow to my blogs from it. However, this morning I had some traffic from twitter - yay!

Ummm ... no I won't be doing that as link exchanges are only allowed in groups. BC has a huge twitter group with 1701 members who exchange links in the group. Here's the link to it www.blogcatalog.com/group/twitter
Also note that we can click on any BC username and arrive on their BC Profile page and click their twitter link there. -

i twitter mostly so i can have a reminder of what i was thinking or doing at the moment....it's sort of a mini journal.

I have found that twitter can be a huge time suck. Originally, it was created as a social chat utility for answering the question: "What are you doing now?" Apparently many aren't doing much aside from tweeting for hours on end because the noise to sound ratio is extremely high. I quickly learned that I could easily twitter my life away and that's why I adopted focused use of twitter.

I use it as a mini-blog. I usually tweet things that aren't long enough for a blog post but that I still want others to read. It's also a good way to see what your friends are up to. But be forewarned: it can make you feel like a creep if your friend(s) constantly update it and use it as a status "what-i'm-doing-right-now" kind of thing.

I absolutely love Twitter and BlogCatalog because I am connecting with everyone in cyberspace. You never know how profoundly your words may affect another. You just might have the magic formula that they need to hear.
Isn't it wonderful to be able to reach out and really touch someone?
Don't you feel great about belonging to something exciting and different from your everyday life? -
I don't (I signed up, but never used it). If people want to know what I'm doing, they'll just ask me.

Actually it is more than that @MissSuzie. Here are great PDF Guides to help you understand more about Twitter.

I am fascinated by knowing what strangers on the other side of the world are doing, like finding stuff in their comb, or bugs in the bathtub, or getting new batteries for their iPhones. It's endless fun. Really.

I twitter for the fun of it, I use twitterfeed to update twitter about blog entries, I get to laugh at tweeps funnies and above all, I get the challenge of expressing myself in as few a characters as possible.
It's not about popularity, it's about finding others who can inform you and who are liking what you say. -
I've started twittering about philosophy, which is a fun challenge given the word limit. I'm just a bit discouraged by the fact that most of my followers are just trying to get me to visit this website by which they earn money, and I wonder if anyone actually reads what I twitter. But anyhow, it's all good fun:)

I started using Twitter for work, I run the social networking sites for a non-profit. So I was obliged to create my own page to use as a test run for our official page. In a few days, I was hooked. I still am. I'll probably need rehab soon, but I won't be the only one. I look forward to eventually seeing VH1's Celebrity Twitter Rehab with Dr. Drew. First patient: Ashton Kutcher.

Because EVERYONE wants to know that I'm making bacon right now.
No, really. It's an incredible way to build community. I love that people just offer random facts about themselves. Things you'd never ask. And it's nice for us lazy people who don't email or call
Follow me and I promise to always let you know when I make bacon.

Twitter is a strategic tool with a large exposure area (not only in Twitter world - the effect of feeds from your BC profile - if it`s set - it could be used also in many other social networks). Even if you`ll not obtain too many direct visits from your tweets, the effect in searches from search engines will be seen in less time and more "two cents" here, by using social networks it`s nor one risk of penalties for aggressive SEO promotion.
If you can accept a warm notice, don`t grab to monetize your tweets, to not risk sooner or later to have your account suspended; don`t give your user and password too easy - there are many Twitter tools, last time when I searched I found just in one place 140 -. I prefer to build a known profile, something like a "brand" lets say, than performance in followers with programs who insert their automatic ads.
I use Twitter for the huge volume of information, to send more than one advert/day, because is more fast and responsive than an optin list. - 139 characters, to respect the subject of this thread. I hope to be helpful. -
FWIW BC has a twitter group with 1,868 members.
Twitter
Follow people. Be followed. Tell people why you Twitter. Alternatives to Twitter. What to expect from Twitter. Anything "Twitter" goes.

My Twitter profile is @zepzim.
Why I love it when I have time for it and feel like something to say?
It is fun to try put something hopefully catchy into a few words.
However, If your topic is not interesting to a large amount of people or they have discovered that your niche is not something they want to know more about, you can stand on your head to try to get more traffic results or make friends by twitting.
