Why is #Bacon So Popular On Twitter?

We have gnomes and moose and other recurring in-jokes over here at BlogCatalog.
So why are bacon references so popular at Twitter?
Am I missing something?

Is the bacony goodness not self-explanatory?
Have you not seen CA's recipes here where bacon is as gratuitous to each dish as a strip club scene in an action picture?-
I am not addressing gtally any more, as he obviously hasn't eaten real bacon.

People at twitter are throwing around the bacon references like it's going out of style!

Bacon has always been very popular that's why Shakespeare wrote "Oh bacon thou art a salty yet plump and feisty temptress. For thou sizzles art to me as an angel's laughter trickling down from those bountiful pork filled heavens to alight and then delight my oft rancorous yet flexible tongue"-
That's why he wrote in iambic pork-tameter!
