It seems you can't read a magazine or watch TV without constantly seeing Robert Pattinson, the vampire from the Twilight movie. I have seen about 1/2 of the movie. It was extremely boring to me.

I don't understand why seemingly 1/2 of the world has the hots for Robert Pattinson. He looks kind of weird to me. Not very attractive either, in my personal opinion.

What about you? Did you like the movie and do you get the craze over this guy?

Hated the movie, extremely boring. I haven't read the book, nor do I want to. I also don't find the guy that cute! He is Ok but I don't think I would turn my head to look at him on the street.

    Hated the movie.

The reason why people are smitten is a large portion of those are impressionable young girls with raging hormones who jump on the bandwagon and aren't really mature enough to look past the hype surrounding him and fairly judge his beauty, or lack thereof.

Well first of all lets be clear. The Twilight book serious, contrary to it's following was originally a YOUNG ADULT genre. It's for ages 12-17. R-Pat is a teeny-bop heart throb. So those of us over 25 who are confused about why we don't like or give a sht about Twilight ...raise your hands!!!

OK...now...exit the room. The book and movie were NOT FOR YOU.

Those our age who DID like it...are just...EASYILY AMMUSED.

I wish it were that simple (or innocent), Lotus. After the first movie premiere my then-12-year-old was very disturbed to hear Taylor Lautner say in an interview that he'd been approached outside by a woman in her forties who wanted to make sure he knew she was wearing Team Taylor underwear.

thank you for clarifying that babes - just like the harry potter series is for young adults, so too is the Twilight series. That being said, I enjoyed both of them as well as the movies. I like the occassional light read and of course the movies never capture EVERYTHING in the books but when do they ever??

as for Robert - maybe it's because he's so young and I have a thing for boys, but that boy is damn lickable! Then again, I lust for Zac Efron too - nothing like a 20 year old to make your day!

Well Madame, like I said, she was easily amused by the book. Sj liked it, as she said as a "light read". So obviously it's well recieved all the way around. But those who don't like it, or aren't interested (like me) shouldn't be confused by it's popularity, it's targeted towards a younger crowed. As far as I know all the cast members are of legal consenting age.

But is who they're FOR really the question? The OP asked what the obsession was all about, and that's hardly limited to young teenagers. One of my daughter's middle-school friends had to go and stay with family recently so that her late-thirties mother could go to a Twilight convention.
    5. sjtavo
actual, little Taylor himself is only 17 right now.... why do i know this? thank you, People magazine LOL
    6. MikeandTiffany
See? If a 40-something woman walked up to my 16-year-old son and told him she had his name on her underwear, I'd be calling the police.
    7. lotusb
@ Madame...lmao...well I don't know what to tell you on that one.

All I'm saying is it's targeted towards young kids. So the BULK of the fanfare is those young kids. The books store in NY I worked for premiered the book when it first came out and I watched as thousands of KIDS and yes a few adults came in a bought the book. It's for kids. Those adults that like it are young at heart, that's really all there is to it. The obsession is financial. Magazines, pub co, movie producers..etc...invest in what sells.

      I'm with Mike & Tiffany.

Thats like saying whats so big about the harry potter series.. We all have our preferences and I have to admit im one of those Fanpires along with my 2 daughters. Were all hooked on Robert patterson the hottest man alive. And yes im 31 so I dont know if that makes me immature to each her own
    1. MadameX
Um...you're sharing a crush with your daughters? And you don't find that creepy at all?
    2. camerashyphotos
      nope not really
  5. othellobloke
I never get why adults are into children's entertainment. Seems like a question of maturity to me.
    1. camerashyphotos
To me...the adult... its the ROMANCE side of it that I like
    2. sjtavo
i just like some easy reads and I like series novels.

as for having crushes on border-line adolescents - hey, why the hell not? my only rule is that they have to be legal! hot is hot, whether it's a 19 year old boy who barely shaves or hugh jackman who just makes me *sigh* LOL
    3. AroundTheWaygirl
I don't think there's a damn thing wrong with older woman having a "boy crush" once in awhile. Hell, you men do it all the time and nothing is said about it. I bet half of you have already been visualizing Miley Cyrus naked and wondering what it would be like to "hit that" when she becomes legal age.

I think the attraction has a lot to do with the character/story behind the person, such as Robert Pattinson and Zac Efron. Who doesn't love a good love story with intense passion with that sexy mysterious guy that most people don't get.

This is nothing new, it has been going on for years. I recently watched an NKOTB interview where all members shared stories of older woman and mothers being more of a fan than their daughters boppers.
    4. MadameX
Nothing is said about it? If I knew an adult man who admitted to fantasizing about Miley Cyrus naked, I'd have a lot to say about it--and I'd make damned sure the freak never got anywhere near my teenage daughter or her friends.
    5. othellobloke
camerashyphotos - you can get the romance part in adult novels, can you not?

MadameX... why would you have a lot to say about it? Sexual attraction is usually (for normal people) based upon sexual maturity. Whilst I don't normally go for white chicks and happen to think Miley Cyrus looks like the back end of a bus, it's plainly obvious from one glance at her that Miley Cyrus is sexually mature.

All that nozz about mentally able to cope with sex, emotional ramifications blah blah don't come into sexual attraction.

Going by the picture below... I simply cannot tell the difference between her in this picture and the average 21yr old girl.

    6. AroundTheWaygirl
That was exactly the point I was trying to make Othello That's just the way it is.
    7. MadameX
I guess I just function completely differently than some people. To me, attraction is to a PERSON, not a lump of flesh (however nicely formed it might be), and if that person is a child, I don't think of him/her sexually. You all make it sound like it's something entirely outside a person's control, so I guess I'm just lucky not to be afflicted with that particular perversion.
    8. camerashyphotos
Well im not saying im going to go hunt him down and rape him hes just a pretty face to look at and a great actor. Guess thats the point im trying to make
    1. camerashyphotos
Sorry to everyone and to all that think im a freak but this is just hawt

I totally avoid the "Twilight" stuff but my daughter loves it.
I thought it was just the age difference.
But, after reading the comments in this thread, I'm glad that I am a single MALE raising a daughter. Never thought I'd say those words.

I've read the Harry Potter series, so I can kind of understand why adults would read these. On the other hand, I've seen more grown women become completely obsessed with Twilight than I care to admit. I don't understand the obsession, either.
  8. RoflopagosIsland
The only reason we find him hot is because he plays Edward. It's Edward who is hot (in our minds), not Pattinson. He was forgettable as Diggory in Harry Potter. I'm 30 and loved the books...the only reason I can think of as to why I loved them so much is because it reminds you of how you felt as a teen when you really liked a guy. Oh and vampires are cool.
    1. crpitt
That sums it up for me.
  9. rcrane52
i am so outta touch. i don't know twilight. and i don't know billy bob paterson or whatever. sometimes i feel like i live in a cave. no seriously. i really do. i've got the mushrooms between my toes to prove it.
  10. dbowles1017
Ugh... I want to punch people in the face when they mention this movie.
    1. DailyBeerReview
Exactly, I'd never heard of it or the not-hot dude until just now. And I wish I hadn't clicked on this thread.
    2. dbowles1017
You are lucky. I had some friends who all they ever did was talk about it. I drew mustaches on all of their posters of him, and they got mad for some reason.
    3. Deray28
      jajajaja DB!

When I need to laugh I go to youtube and search for reviews on either the books or the movies, either if they love them (OMG is sooo good, is sooo fantastic, he is soooo hot, etc) or if they hate them (f*&ing movie, it's so stupid, etc), they are hilarious!
    4. DailyBeerReview
Deray, come to my blog for a laugh. Oh, and click my ads.

Pretty much whenever people tend to adore something en masse, I run the other way from it. I don't know if I'll ever try reading any of the books...

I suspect I've become too irrationally jaded by the press now to ever try.
    1. crpitt
For me it was like watching the Lost Boys, no Oscars, but I loved the soundtrack.
  12. HollytheHousewife
Well y'all can be haters... I liked the series,I also loved interview with a vampire,I also read ann rice...I like fantasy horror, plus romance. I can't watch or read anything like saw or any serial killer crap...its too real.
I also loved the count of monte cristo and books and movies like that, its fun.
  13. HollytheHousewife
Just bc you like to read things that don't take a whole lot of brain work doesn't mean you can't read or watch other authors,or directors that do make you think.

Has anyone ever seen...o brother where art thou...most people think its a red neck movie, well if you pay attention its actually based off The odyssey...which I read and watched both and LOVED!!!
