Are there that many experts on the topic out there? Is it fueled by the success of the few bloggers at the top?
OR is it just the good old fashioned desire to get more out of life that has led to so many blogs on the topic.

I've been in 'the industry' for quite a few years and have never seen so many sites on the topic as I did in 2007.

It's because Making money online is like the new sliced bread..

    Everyone wants it.

Yes, but savvy marketers would also take into account what the market can SUPPORT.

It'd be like deciding to open a fish-and-chips shop in a town with 200 people and 37 fish-and-chips shops already.

35 of those 37 fish-and-chip shops are going to have to fall by the wayside.

I tend to lean towards your argument..It's great that so many are trying to replicate the success of others or get a piece of the pie, but there's so many hungry people at the table its extremely tough to get a spot!

I am always surprised by how many people seem to be making money online--people with nothing to sell. Guess this makes for a great lure, if for this reason alone.

Why is Making Money Online Such a Popular Blog Niche?

The reason is because our economy sucks and our lives are stagnant and a lot of people either do not want to really work for a living or, hate their jobs. It's easy to sell to people who dream. More money is made by people online by selling products how to make money online, than actually telling you how to make money online.

I'd always wanted to write an Ebook .. "How I made A Million Dollars" and sell it for $1. On the cover, it would say .. "Over a million copies Sold!"

      - you are so right! I have seen hundred's of guides claiming to be Data Entry jobs that are really just instructions on how to resell the guide ABOUT data entry jobs! :S

Why have content sitting dead on a website? When you can have live up to date content moving(rss feeds)on a blog by the minute, hour, day etc... As a IMer, I find it easier to sell items to a targeted audience from my niche blogs. If you have a niche blog, it can be easy to find and not have to work as hard in locating traffic that's not relevant. Since SE loves new content, you can get free relevant traffic from them as long as you blog consistantly. To make money online, you can create your own products or sell someone elses. There's plenty of pros and cons for both. Myself, I like the combination, my hard effort, in benefiting of reaping the rewards. I started one of my blogs in mid Sept. 2007 and I had not promoted much and got 17 product sales within a month and a half. Anyone can do it, just set your mind in gear and be abit creative.

i think its cause people think it's easy to do. You visit johnchow and problogger and shoemoney and seems like it's not that hard to do. They are all on wordpress and writing general/logical things about making money online. So people think they can do it too. What they forget is that these three blogs have been in the game for a long time and they have a big headstart. They make money off of other make money blogger basically.

It's a popular niche because people are hungry to learn how to make money online. Real jobs suck! But people need to be careful because really anyone can call themselves an "expert" and start a website. Another thing to think about, would these sites really tell all to their competition (us)?

Well, if anything I'll glance through some of the money posts and blogs to get some marketing ideas.

Sure, I don't run my blogs to earn money or do any advertising, but getting more people to read what I'm trying to tell them is the same as selling them products or whatnot.
