Why is this blog so popular? www.cakewrecks.com The blog neither belongs to me nor do i know the blog owner. The blog is all about cakes and has won the best food and humor blog award at BCA 2008. The blog owner publishes posts almost everyday! And each post has about 100 comments. Please note: I AM NOT JEALOUS OF THE BLOG OR I DO NOT ILL WISH FOR THE BLOG! This discussion is meant to analyse the blog owner's hard work.

It's fun and funny and there's not really any other blogs doing that. I think it helps that she only looks at professional cakes, so the commentary can get a little mean, without feeling like they're just randomly picking on people. Meanness can turn readers off unless it's done right, and I think it's done right here - with humor, and with a group that maybe deserves it. I mean, someone paid money for nearly every cake featured.
I think legbamel is on to something, too. She posts so many picture found by readers, I think it gives the readers some ownership in the blog, and keeps people interested and looking for cakes they could submit, plus, it keeps a lot of fresh content coming in. -

Blogger awards
I think it's worthwhile to take a moment out to understand that "blogger awards" are popularity awards that simply validate bloggers and are not indicative of excellence in the sense of competing against any objective standards. Most competitions for such awards divide them by categories (humor blogs, technical blogs, health blogs, etc.). Bloggers can nominate and vote for their own blogs. The voting is entirely subjective and it's usually the blogger who the biggest army (ie. the most friends who will vote for their blog) that "wins". When blogger awards are sponsored then they are, in essence, a great no cost way of advertising for the sponsoring site. Every blogger who has a blog entered must have a badge and backlink to the sponsor. And every casts a vote must visit the sponsoring site and register by providing personal information to the sponsoring site. The sponsor site gets free advertising and a mega-load of hits. The competing sites also experience an increase in hits from "voters" who are comparing sites. In the end that usually translates into a very high bounce rate, as only a few of those who vote in such contests will become faithful readers of blogs they have not visited previously. -
yeah the baby cake is pretty cool and is definitely kind of uncomfortable to see a baby in the oven. I kind of look at it like a spin off of FAIL blog except with cakes. Its very original and hit the niche market for people like me who laugh at crap like this. This is actually my first time visiting that site, its definitely going on my blogger follower thingy

Cake Wrecks is one of my favorites - I visit pretty much every day. The photos are hysterical and Jen's comments are clever. It was one of Bloggers "Blogs of Note" which generated lots more hits. If you log in to Blogger you can see that Cake Wrecks has more than 2800 Followers...that's a heck of a lot of fans.

"Why is this blog so popular? www.cakewrecks.com"
Because it's another pointless image dump for the mentally challenged and ooh, pwetty pickturez. We all love them, don't we? God, it's enough to make me puke. -
@qelqoth, why're you being so sarcastic. you can just go on and say i don't like it. i never liked it. so i'm asking people. tastes of people differ and there's no need to make fun of it.

I just spent like, 10 minutes on that blog. It definitely has a recipe for success.
Get it? Recipe?
(Ducks rotten fruit)
It's funny, it's original, and who doesn't love horribly decorated cakes?

Some of those cakes are damn scary!
People like light-hearted, mindless reading, and humor is always a winner. Blogs like cakewrecks will always be popular. I mean just look at icanhascheezburger.com -
I think it's cool how some blogs are so popular no matter what the subject matter.
At fb my blog has over 2000 readers and gets readers from all over the world and I have a hidden statcounter to prove it!
If you are passionate about your subject you will get more readers.
Build it and they will come and indeed they do!
