Some of us use your own faces, a favorite graphic or a pet's picture. But some of us use someone else's face. Why? Are we insecure? Do we think we'll more interest if we use someone else's face? Yes, Sir Almo and Friday 13 had recent "face lifts" but I assume it's still their own faces (or are they?!).

mine is a graphic but my reason is to stay as anonymous as possible. My ex-philosophy teacher frequents social networking sites as well my other younger teachers, it would make for awkward experience as my teachers are not afraid to call someone out...plus I just like my avatar.
    1. busylizzy
I don't consider yours to be someone else's face. I would never assume that you really did look like a line drawing with pointed ears.
  2. DVS
Because I have no face of my own. :-(
    1. busylizzy
      Did someone cut it off?
  3. ekim941
Because, may actual face is hideous.

Wait, this is my actual face.
  4. jan4insight
I'm proudly using my own face! Of course the avatar face is about 10 years younger and multi pounds thinner than my real face now, but it really my face at one time
    1. busylizzy
      Good enough!

    That's me alright.

    Anonymity
    Lulu’s not my name either
    Safety first I say
    1. busylizzy
You can't fool me - that's a cartoon face! I was wondering about people who use other people's real/human faces as their own (body snatchers!)
  8. harleyblues
maybe some are just not foto geneic like me.. however that is my silly mug in my avator
    hb
  9. catherineneal
Because some of us are goofy and like silly pictures.
  10. busylizzy
So far, no input from anyone actually using some other real person's face...
  11. XanthePat
This is me but when I was younger
  12. weblogian
this is me but when i was younger.

I am a man, I love this very much and I use it everywhere on the net. But I am not on the line like those people hiding their real photo for a reason.
    1. RecycleCindy
Hehe, very funny. I enjoy the fun images some people have for their avatars and yours just puts a smile on my face.
    2. weblogian
      @recyclecindy

Thank you and glad that you like my avatar
  13. Ali420
As my blog is about movies, I chose my avatar to be a character from one of my favorite films(Koroshiya 1) from one of my all-time favorite directors(Takashi Miike)

    it's my encomium to him
  14. mikeny07
I get annoyed when people use girls legs and butts in pictures when most of the time they are not even female. It just reminds me of the 3am commercials of buying real estate with no money down. (That is why everyone owns a house I guess)
    1. busylizzy
I forget who it is, but you just reminded me of something...there's a BC avatar of a woman and the camera angle is from above and down her cleavage...the person's bio says it's a dude!
  15. EndlesslySheSaid
Do people actually do that? how would one know? I'm curious now
  16. cranelegs
    i am hideous.
    look away!
    i am not human.
  17. dosox
    Are ya asking me?
    1. busylizzy
Okay, I'll ask...Is that your face? Or someone else's?
    2. busylizzy
I guess I scared Desox away!
  18. CrystalRaven
this is yet another "this is me"
  19. gerri50
mine is all me: okay, maybe only half of me.
    1. busylizzy
Is that a roof and chimney growing out of your neck? It looks painful. Perhaps you should see Friday13's plastic surgeon...
  20. Friday13
My avatar is so heavily retouched to make me look near-human, I might as well say it's someone else
    1. busylizzy
I wish I could retouch more hair onto mine. Maybe I should change my avatar to one of my old pictures with long hair.
  21. CrotchetyOldMan
I use a slightly older picture of me. I don't understand using someone else unless it's in tribute. To use some random pretty face makes no sense to me.
    1. busylizzy
Your "slighly older" picture is older than dirt, younger than God. I know because I recognize that TV! LOL!
  22. extremejohn
Mine is actually my face, just a cartoon version of me.
  23. acousticguitarist
i used to and then someone insulted me, even though my face is not threatening, acousticguitarist.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/drnerdy3.jpg

i feel the red panda can get away with more cheeky stuff. People are less likely to go into conflict with the cutest animal in the world.
    1. busylizzy
Your real face is fine! PHHHHT! to whomever insulted you!
    2. acousticguitarist
yeah i was born with it, but few people beat up the panda
  24. SpiritualBloggers
"Yes, Sir Almo and Friday 13 had recent "face lifts" but I assume it's still their own faces"

LOL Yes, its Almo's real face, I'm pretty sure.

I'm thinking of changing my avatar to my face.
    1. acousticguitarist
it's a good idea, but beware, wear a helmet
    2. siralmo
hey i have a helmet... a medievil helmet
  25. chicky401
You mean this might not really be the chicky? Phew I thought I would have to live my life with this face forever Hey wait a minute this is me, sorry to scare you all
  26. siralmo
hahahaha its nice to see people are talking about me

this is my real face though i thought it might be good to give it a bit more artistic flair, i have been called anemic looking and a few people prefer the old avatar better.

i was actually going for an albino look but to still use colour so that the avatar still has elements of the original picture in it.

i may change it again soon

but again it will be reconisable or a variation of a recognisable pic
    1. busylizzy
How about a koala wearing your helmet?
    2. siralmo
that may be a little too much work...
  27. ModelElaine
I would never use someone else's picture
  28. maxisangry
Some of us are horribly deformed. Leave it alone.
    1. siralmo
if it meant that much to you why did you post??
    2. busylizzy
Dragons are beautiful! My daughter collects dragons and reads dragon stories for her book reports.
    3. siralmo
do the drangons in your stories throw up??
    4. busylizzy
For some reason Aussies are very digestible. The only things that come back up are knights' armor and an occasional fire burp!
    5. siralmo
ahh well maxi is throwing up some yellow liquid

don't know how thats happenening, no knights or armour as far as i can see,

maybe maxi is bulimic, and has a low self esteem, and thats why he doesn't have a face avatar

      ???
    6. busylizzy
Maxi has a stomach virus. Just needs some rest and clear liquids for a day or two.
    7. siralmo
awe poor maxi ... get better soon
  29. drjay1966
Of course I'm not using someone else's picture!!!!!

What the hell are you trying to imply????!!!!
    1. busylizzy
You'd better be telling the truth or Miss Piggy will give you a karate chop! LOL! (My fav is Animal)
  30. SailboaterRob
I want to be absolutely clear.

This is NOT someone elses face and it isn't photoshopped either. I'm truly this handsome.
  31. DeadRooster
What? You mean all this time people were using avatars that weren't their real faces?
    1. drjay1966
      It's shocking!
  32. boytrotters
I really am a cartoon pig. Frightening, isn't it?
    1. busylizzy
Actually, you are kind of cute!
  33. ranist22
I'm modest. In my town everybody knows my face though not my name.
    1. busylizzy
It's okay to be shy, especially in a small town.
  34. idealpinkrose
I'm afraid that people would get some autograph if I'll post my pic..hahaha...just kidding!
    1. busylizzy
You should set up a Paypal button on your site and sell autographed pictures. You'd be so stinkin' rich within a week!
  35. Keysa
< check it what u think
    1. Halconite
      It's authentic, I think...
  36. Sebastyne
I often wonder about that too. Although I use my own picture, there is one reason I could think of not to. If I, for some reason blogged about a topic I didn't want to be associated with, but wanted to put a "human face" to it, then I might feel tempted to use someone else's photo. I wouldn't though, because if I'm too scared to use my own picture, how it is fair to put someone else's face in there?
  37. Mizdemeanor
this is me, its from last year, a webcam shot...ive actually tried 2 different pics b4.. . but this pic seems to give me a lot of luck so it would stay as my icon.. icons are like trademarks...or logos ...something to make others recognize and remember you easily, dis serves d purpose ...so i'm sticking with it. (if u want to see d bigger version of it, its on my ABOUT page plus a whole body pic on mizdemeanor.net )
  38. coolbuster
i will look like this guy 80 years from now...so sad. jk
  39. webbetty
LOL! Great discussion post. I actually use my own face, but I think many of us like the idea of being someone else.
  40. annz
I use my daughter's picture, but that's because my blog is about young kids in glasses, and, you guessed it, she's a young kid in glasses.
    1. busylizzy
      Perfect, perfect, perfect!
  41. Afronuts
Mine is a representation of my personality - inquisitive, young at heart,fun-loving and eager to learn.
    It also suits my name
  42. armywife65
I use my Grand Daughter's Pix. Not because I'm insecure, I have no reason to be. She's my only Grand Daughter and I love her so much and I'm such a proud Gramma at age "43" woo hoo! I will change it after I go see her next week to a new up to date pix.
I use my own pix on my blogs though on my front page, plain as day, can't miss me. =)
    1. busylizzy
Geeze, I grew up slow! When I was 43 my daughter entered 1st grade!
  43. LynneaUrania
I use the same official photo as appears on other sites, as well as the back of my book. Before I had it to upload, I posted a full moon as people think I must be a lunatic.
    1. busylizzy
LOL! Let's put some spin on this moon thing...how about saying you are a Moon Goddess!
    2. LynneaUrania
Because I'm not. Have you had people address you as "Goddess" before? As far as I'm concerned, it isn't golden. I don't accept divine titles because I've known too many fantastic divine beings to indulge that kind of hubris.
  44. jackpayne
It all starts with photos. Learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.
  45. TheBlackCritic
Because I'm insecure. And have warrants out on me. (See. There can be a good reason for virtually everything in life.)
  46. madnessabides
My wife would rather be married to the monkey, I think...
    1. busylizzy
...and you could be her secret lover!
  47. jigsaw316
I am Jigsaw.Hence my avatar is Jigsaw!
    1. busylizzy
I think your avatar is appropriate. I love sci-fi but not horror. Yes, I know, the two kind of overlap alot. I guess my favorite in both genres is Alien
  48. letters2soulmate
i would use my face as an avatar, but my blog is anonymous. also, i feel that my avatar speaks very closely to the content of my blog.
    cheers, R
  49. jeremylong
    perhaps, too shy haha
  50. pinkmimosa
    This IS my face!
    1. busylizzy
I love sock monkeys! (don't take that the wrong way!)
