Why is your avator someone else's face?!

Some of us use your own faces, a favorite graphic or a pet's picture. But some of us use someone else's face. Why? Are we insecure? Do we think we'll more interest if we use someone else's face? Yes, Sir Almo and Friday 13 had recent "face lifts" but I assume it's still their own faces (or are they?!).

mine is a graphic but my reason is to stay as anonymous as possible. My ex-philosophy teacher frequents social networking sites as well my other younger teachers, it would make for awkward experience as my teachers are not afraid to call someone out...plus I just like my avatar.

I'm proudly using my own face! Of course the avatar face is about 10 years younger and multi pounds thinner than my real face now, but it really my face at one time

this is me but when i was younger.
I am a man, I love this very much and I use it everywhere on the net. But I am not on the line like those people hiding their real photo for a reason. -
I get annoyed when people use girls legs and butts in pictures when most of the time they are not even female. It just reminds me of the 3am commercials of buying real estate with no money down. (That is why everyone owns a house I guess)

I use a slightly older picture of me. I don't understand using someone else unless it's in tribute. To use some random pretty face makes no sense to me.

i used to and then someone insulted me, even though my face is not threatening, acousticguitarist.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/drnerdy3.jpg
i feel the red panda can get away with more cheeky stuff. People are less likely to go into conflict with the cutest animal in the world. -

LOL Yes, its Almo's real face, I'm pretty sure.
I'm thinking of changing my avatar to my face. -
hahahaha its nice to see people are talking about me
this is my real face though i thought it might be good to give it a bit more artistic flair, i have been called anemic looking and a few people prefer the old avatar better.
i was actually going for an albino look but to still use colour so that the avatar still has elements of the original picture in it.
i may change it again soon
but again it will be reconisable or a variation of a recognisable pic

I often wonder about that too. Although I use my own picture, there is one reason I could think of not to. If I, for some reason blogged about a topic I didn't want to be associated with, but wanted to put a "human face" to it, then I might feel tempted to use someone else's photo. I wouldn't though, because if I'm too scared to use my own picture, how it is fair to put someone else's face in there?

this is me, its from last year, a webcam shot...ive actually tried 2 different pics b4.. . but this pic seems to give me a lot of luck so it would stay as my icon.. icons are like trademarks...or logos ...something to make others recognize and remember you easily, dis serves d purpose ...so i'm sticking with it. (if u want to see d bigger version of it, its on my ABOUT page plus a whole body pic on mizdemeanor.net

I use my daughter's picture, but that's because my blog is about young kids in glasses, and, you guessed it, she's a young kid in glasses.

I use my Grand Daughter's Pix. Not because I'm insecure, I have no reason to be. She's my only Grand Daughter and I love her so much and I'm such a proud Gramma at age "43" woo hoo! I will change it after I go see her next week to a new up to date pix.
I use my own pix on my blogs though on my front page, plain as day, can't miss me. =) -
I use the same official photo as appears on other sites, as well as the back of my book. Before I had it to upload, I posted a full moon as people think I must be a lunatic.
