Tsu - yes they are.
If you can keep a cat entertained - you can have a VERY healthy - happy cat.
The owner is responsible for a pet's actions - and a pet that is outdoors (like a cat) can be very damaging to other people's property or can be general nuisances (especially to people who dislike or are allergic to them).
Vets suggest that cats remain indoors.
It also stops the transmissions of diseases such as feline leukemia. -
Hypothetically, if the mew of a cat were to be offending to human ears they would mute the animal. So, go ahead make them comply as per your wishes NOT
A cat is a nocturnal creature with real hunting instincts. If you want to keep them indoors all the time what you need is a warm fur ball and not the real thing -
You are taking this way too literally, tsu. No one said to keep the cat indoors ALL the time. I've had cats all my life and we never kept them indoors 24/7. What I meant by homebound cat is that you leave a window open or whatever, and your cat can come and go as it pleases. Some people leave their cats to sleep, eat, do everything outside - as in they are NEVER allowed to enter the house.

I don't let my cats go outside any longer.
Sorry guys - I do agree that cats CAN be outdoors animals --- provided you don't live near a street that cars drive on... That you don't have coyotes running rampant or eagles flying.
Also - if you are willing to pay for any damage (spraying, bird killing, etc.) that your cat does... And allow them to catch any disease that comes along.
I used to be a big cat outside believer until my most recent batches of cats.
I've also had cats ALL of my life - my mother ALWAYS having 3 or more cats.
Several of her cats have been run over.
A few eaten by other critters...
A lot of them have gotten diseases and illnesses from other cats.
One lady sued her for the cat supposedly destroying her garden.
Several neighbors were upset that the male cat YOWLED outside late at night.
Another neighbor poisoned several of the cats that were outside (because, let's face it - a lot of people are NOT cat lovers...)
I talked with a couple of the vets we've had over the years and MOST vets I've seen are proponents of indoor only cats.
They say that indoor cats live MANY years longer... Are healthier and don't have as many illnesses, diseases, bugs or other issues that outdoor cats do.
They say keeping your cats indoors also stops territorial fights, stops little kittens popping up (if you have not neutered your pet) and it allows wild birds to live, since cats are victorious hunters... *GRIN*.
Also - the vets say that domesticated cats are not prepared for the wild... or the cities. Oh yes - they can survive - but they do not have the means or the genes to survive properly in a crowded city life.
Holly - if you can't handle a CAT BOX... WHY DO YOU HAVE A CAT in the FIRST PLACE?

Is your neighbour rotting in money? Most vets charge anywhere between $200 and $400 for a standard spaying/neutering so I can't imagine why she would "take it upon herself" to have your cat fixed. Personally, I'd be pissed especially since the surgery didn't go well.
That being said, it's your damn cat! Why do you feel like you'd be stepping on her toes if you took the animal back? If she had your car or your lawnmower or one of your kids, you'd go over and get them so why are you aprehensive about the cat?
Knock on her door. "Hello crazy, med-hogging, cat-spaying, lunatic neighbour. I want my damn cat back!" -

Well...I just don't know what to say. I mean the lady is sick and she has taken it to a whole nother level, but I just wanna keep the peace,I really do hope she will give hunny back to me...
Hunny is such a sweet cat,and I'm not a cat person. -
work the reverse psychology
you:Okay..keep my cat
She:errr..
YOu:yeah..and its gonna scratch on your couch and all furniture
She:errrr
You:Yes..I Said..keep my cat
She:Nooo..take it back..please..please..please..
You:Give me 5k dollars.
She:Okay
___
in the above scenario..You got your cat and 5k dollars -
Holly - LMAO - ok, one, I think i'd pee my pants if one my neighbors actually kidnapped my cat and got her fixed. Ok, now that I've stopped laughing, number 1, especially since she "was" an outdoor cat, you should have gotten her neutered at six months - there are way too many feral cats out there. Number 2 - my retard aka cat is an indoor cat - know why? Because I like that she doesn't bring in rodents, fleas, disease, get into fights, etc... by being an indoor cat. As for her litter box - it's in the basement - and I simply change the whole thing once a week. Very simple.
-
Exactly stjavo - Like I said - if you can't handle the catbox - WHY DO YOU HAVE A CAT?
I mean - it's one thing if the cat is feral and you're getting to touch it once in awhile as it GRACES you with one of it's scrounging feeding visits. But you own the cat - and you feed the cat and you have the cat... Uhm... what if it has to go to the bathroom?
