I am sure this must have ben asked over the years. I am just wondering why we have no female band equal to them. I mean it is not even close.

I don't know. Maybe there are, they are just undiscovered.

It's not necessarily true that there aren't female bands as good, just that they don't garner screaming, crying hoards of men throwing their underthings on the stage when they sing. The get creepy, stalker men who sent them body parts and dig through their garbage. There have been lots of incredibly talented women who were (are?) just not as widely known.

The Beatles came along a long time ago, and established themselves in an era when the phenomenon was as powerful as how "good" they were. Other bands who are just as "good" today don't get that kind of attention, whether they're male or female. And back in the day, when becoming legendary was wide open, female bands weren't really operating in that arena.

Patti Smith's "Horses" album is as good as any Beatles album, as is Joni Mitchell's "Court and Spark," and maybe Sleater Kinney's "the Woods" as well....

How many male bands were as big as the Beatles? Not that many either, and certainly not with the same longevity. A handful, maybe.

Diana Ross and The Supremes were more popular worldwide than the Beatles for a while in the 1960s. Know your history a little better. They were also just as good. Not as good instrumentally, but better vocally.

Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Janis Joplin, Joan Jett..

Ok they aren't entirely female, but the vocals are.

The Beatles literally changed the course of history and music - it would be hard pressed to find male, female or mixed band to do that. It happens once in a generation.
