I am a big fan of Wikipedia and use it a lot for the articles I write on my blog. Are you a fan? Do you find the information relevant and reliable?

Check out some of my favorite Wikipedia articles.

My blog is nothing without Wikipedia and Flickr. God bless them!

Yeah, same with mine. It is amazing the stuff you can find out on that site.

anyone actually ever contribute to wikipedia? I have never myself but I don't think I know enough about anything to do it.

I know what you mean... I keep hearing esp recently about how people sit there and edit in stuff their not even sure about.

yeah, I would be too scared that I would write wrong info about something

Yah...I added a famous person to my hometown's "famous people" chapter.

      I love the Wiki!

I edited it a couple of times, but nothing major. I think I added some book titles to a list, something of the sort.

They have staff who always double-check what's been edited anyway, in case it's inaccurate.

But that's it... you write what you know. If your information's not quite right, those who know will edit it and correct it. The idea is that the errors eventually work themselves out.

I use it for trivia, mostly--like what year the third Led Zeppelin album came out or how old Marisa Tomei is--so, even if somebody put up bogus information, it doesn't matter.

For more important stuff, I try to go to more reliable sources.

i agree wiki is great. if not for wiki, my post on elephants surging out of extinction into over population would have been reference-less!

wikipedia's great but its not reliable. I'm writing a paper about literary heroes and I chose don quixote...I read wikipedias summary, and then I read the book. They were similar but not the same.

I wouldn't base a research paper on what I read on the Wiki, however, I find it to be be a great starting point. It provides you with plenty of links and related topics to check out.
When I want to know about something, I usually head straight to Wikipedia, then if I want to know more, I just check out the sources they provide and go from there.

It's a great website. Very handy and user-friendly.

I don't really need any sources for my blog (yay, lazy writing!). I personally love surfing Wiki, myself. Almost any topic--no matter how bizarre--is covered, but every time I do, I just hear my professors saying 'Wikipedia is not a reliable source. DO NOT EVER USE IT!' But I have, just to spite them Though I ended up caving and using another source to back it up (because I am weak like that).

yeah, i love stumbling through wiki. and while my college papers are half wiki content i never once cite it... is that a good or bad thing? i dont know
    2. sunnyberra
Well, it would avoid that sigh (you know the one. It says, "Hmmph. Disappointed again.") *g*

I think that Wiki (in the collegiate world) is one of thoses sources that are better left uncited

I can't say enough about it. It's got great stuff!

I rely on Wiki a lot for quick stuff or citations and sources. If I can't find something I need - I look in Wiki, or if I'm not sure where to start, I look in Wiki - then I use the sources from that to find more credible sources to cite.

Always cross reference, and you can't go wrong.

I don't use it for my blogs but I found it very useful to find reliable information when writing articles for several other sites.
