It seems that ever since I was a child, I've heard how the world was going to end. But guess what? We are still here. Now the next prediction is 2012 when all the planets line up again. Key word,AGAIN!

It's such a pain when a world dies, finding another planet like this to live on takes SO much time LOL

Yes, it will end 12 seconds and 20 minutes and 12 hours after midnight (GMT) on 2012. This is the nano second the Universe Computer is due to shut down for needed virus scans. It will restart 2012 nano seconds later. Do not be alarmed. Such scans are normal.

    End on 20/12/2012 at 20:12?
Why it didn't end on 20/02/2002 at 20:02?
Or why not on 21/12/2112 at 21:12?
Triple palindromes are rare and there's only one left in the christian/roman calendar so we should use it wisely!

With the rate of political upsets and religious turmoil and all the other stresses that face different countries, who knows when the world will end. Personally, if we worry ourselves sick, it does no good. Thus the reason to live life to the fullest each and every day. If we, on the whole, would respect the differences in people, culture, religion, etc, instead of using them as a tool to destroy, we would be much farther ahead. However, since this seems to be an impossible feat, whenever the world ends, we have no one to critisize but ourselves.

I remember when they said the world was going to end the beginning of the new millenium and people were running themselves mad trying to stock up on food, water and generators. You couldn't find a generator for months prior to the change of the year. When the world didn't come to an end, vast amounts of people wanted to return the merchandise. Quite frankly, I was glad that they decided to charge people for returning these items. Also, if a disaster had happened, I sure as heck wouldn't want to live through it anyway.

I rarely listen to the news. For some, this may present as neive. However, I don't need the added stress of worrying about all the crap that happens in the world that I can't personally change. If we are in complete control of this world coming to an end, then let's stop talking about it and do something. Otherwise, I am going to keep living my life the best I can.

    Ok, done the ranting now.
    1. BetsyIckes
I don't listen to the news either! Look how they had this Swine Flu and this week not a peep about it!
    2. BikiniHotline
Well, actually they are still talking about the swine flu www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/oh-greatmajor-outbreak-of-swine-flu-in-ny and it's only the beginning. But, as stated, I am not going to fill my ears with news of any sort.
    3. BetsyIckes
I guess it hasn't been as dominate on the news in these parts!
  11. mikeny07
The world ended like 100 times already. Each time they are wrong, they just keep changing the date and push it further ahead.

How many tabloids did we read that said 1999, 2000, 2001 was the end? Now it is 2012. I am sure they will be selling the papers for years ahead of that date.

How come people don't say by now "maybe it will never end?".
    1. BetsyIckes
If it does end, I think it will be something stupid that mankind did to it.
  12. pandanartrepublic
me too..never believe it!!why 2012..planet earth is too complicated to predict...
    1. BetsyIckes
I think it is a good thing that we can't predict!
  13. Streetmusician
The world is going start to end in about 20 -50 years when the tipping point for global warming is reached.

The slight increase in temperature, only a few degrees will start to release the planets methane deposits which are situated deep under the oceans. It's already happening now. They are about 20 times more potent than co2. This will push the rise even further thus releasing more methane.

Higher temps mean more forest fires. Our great forests store most of the planets co2. More fires will release even greater amounts into the atmosphere. Then we are screwed.

Give us a few generations and we'll all be in big trouble.

    Nice thought !
    1. BetsyIckes
Mankind may end, but the earth will still be here.
  14. acousticguitarist
it already ended, we are just looking back thru time
    1. BetsyIckes
Do you think there is time travel?
    2. acousticguitarist
yes totally from one perspective, but that's if you consider time to be real

in fact, there is another view which is actually the reverse, because time isn't real, this creates the possibility of stepping between events which are happening in the same moment

i know this doesn't really make logical sense but in person i could explain it easily, and then they'd give me a white jacket and strap my harms up :-)

time is only relevant on this planet, but it has no real meaning outside the framework of the human experience. time relates to the sun and there is an assumption that everything moves along a timeline. this is an extremely limited view. many things exist outside time but limited thought is preventing people to see a broader view and other possibilities.

there was a case of a man from Philadelphia being run over by a car after appearing in the middle of the road and was terrified. The main problem with this issue, is when they checked who he was, he was from the eighteen hundreds and had gone missing then.

There are many bizarre cases of things that just don't fit into the world as we know it, they are skipped over and considered to be a mistake or a figment of the imagination.

I don't believe for one moment that we perceive the same reality or even see the same thing. There are multiple truths coexisting.

So for some the world will end in 2012, but for me it won't.
  15. pandanartrepublic
That's a different stories..the truth is earth have been end in 657 years ago when dinos are totally vanish, the question is how mayans know 2012 the precise time to earth collapse. every religion books say the same about end of days but not the time it will be happen.
  16. Streetmusician
The hubble telescope can look back through time at the birth of the universe 10 billion years ago. Thats the closest we'll ever get to time travel.

With the end of days thing, it won't be an apocolyptic religeous event, it will be simply when humanity screws itself up.

Give a species enough rope and it will hang itself.
I just hope we learn in time.

I think any tribe or prophet would probably pick somewhere around 2000+ ad to choose the end of the world, it's a nice
    ominous figure.
    1. BetsyIckes
Yep Sometimes it is amazing that mankind has survived this long!
  17. pandanartrepublic
yup,the logical aspect that we have to research back all that we got..but that's history.we can't predict the ends like this..all i know is not just 2012..maybe tommorow...
    1. BetsyIckes
I think it is a good thing that we don't know when the end is near, Can you imagine what people would do? Total Caos!
  18. Streetmusician
    I'd go streaking !

From Wikipedia: December 21 - The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the pre-Columbian Maya civilization among others, completes its thirteenth b'ak'tun, or 144,000-day-long sub-cycle, since the starting point of the calendar's current era, which has been equated to August 11, 3114 BC in the proleptic Gregorian calendar.[6] The ending of this sub-cycle has become central to 2012 doomsday prediction, though academic research does not indicate that the Maya themselves attached any particular 'doomsday' significance to it.

So, basically, 2012 is when the last Mayan "sub-cycle" of the calendar ends, just like December 31, 2012 will be when the Western "sub-cycle" (months) ends. The only difference is that the Mayan subcycle is measured in 144,000 day increments and our subcycle is measured in 12 month increments. And just as we do not attach any doomsday significance to the end of our calendar, the Maya don't think the world is coming to end when their calender closes its sub-cycle. If they hadn't converted to our calendar, which renews every 12 months, they'd be feverishly working on a new 144,000 day x 13 b'ak'tun calendar to take the place of the one that is rapidly counting down to its last pages.

I find it interesting that they were able to figure out the things they did without the technology that we have today!

    One saying is that

12/12/2012 is the end day for earth.

Another is in 2060. Personally, I prefer 2060, cuz by then I'll be old, plus I'll hav wife and life long go!

Well, the world will not end on December 21, 2012. For some "prophets of nonsense", this will be their final date of income. But they will just find some new "ancient made up prophecy" to try to squeeze some money from. More on some of these 2012 prophets on my blog:

    1. BetsyIckes
      I must agree.
  26. Anok
From what I understand, the concern isn't that the world will end in some big apocolyptic bang on that date. However, what scientists are looking at is the lining up of the sun with the center o fthe milky way. What that can do to the earth is change the angle of our planet's axis.

If the change is small or gradual, we will see changes in our over all weather patterns and sun/night patterns, but nothing big or horrendous.

If the change is large and abrupt, we can expect cataclysmic natural disasters caused by such a drastic shift. That would be the end of our world as we know it.
  27. Norski
About 2012 and all that: I'm more worried about traffic on Main Street, here in my town, than planetary alignments. But, I'm pretty sure we'll be hearing about the 2012 thing until 2013 - when it'll be something else.

Glancing over my notes, I see there's an alignment coming on November 2, 2100, that should get some people in China excited. I don't have a source, or details, for that though.

That's a bit far off to get a effective book-buying fever up, so the next 'end of the world' date will almost certainly be sooner. (Am I being to cynical here? Perhaps.)

Here's an idea: The world will end in 2015. Because 155 times 13 is 2015. 155 is the year that the Roman Empire declared that Judaism would be tolerated; Interstate 155 is a spur of the American Interstate system leading to Dyersburg, Tennessee; the end of the world would be a dire event; the 13th amendment of the American constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, and thirteen colonies were involved in the 1776 revolution.

You see? It all fits together!

Add enough exclamation marks, put everything in all caps, and you're set.

I suppose I need to say this: I don't believe a word of the 2012, or the 2015 world ending notions.
    1. scifigene
Cool theory. I'm particularly looking forward to "2015" - the sequel to "2012".

lol..Who knows when the world will end, or if it ever will. Sure, there may come things that may wipe out civilization, (could happen) but we really don't know. And, you are right, all of everything that religions that have said in the past, will happen on a certain day, has come and gone, and "guess what folks, we're still here" is right.

just so we're all on the same page - what time zone do we expect the end of the world to start in? The chatam Islands will see the 21 dec 2012 first, then NZ will see it next by a few minutes - Samoa being the last place in the world to see it? So where in the world does the end of the world begin?
    1. XxJamberxX
I think since the Mayan calendar is in south America probably their time.
    2. Sam1982
I would have thought so too - but obviously it wont be the 21st of december everywhere else in the world at that time.
  39. ThroughSmudges
please! end of the world in 2012, that's just silly talk. that's a ridiculous theory that sounds crazy and was probably thought up by a lunatic person. no, the world will be vanquished by alien life forms from a planet of half human-like, half unicorn people who speak entirely in pig latin long before the year 2012...you silly goose.
  40. jeremyjanson
No. It'll end tomorrow. But you won't notice it because a copy of you will find itself directly in front of a copy of this website in a copy of this world.

  43. Rainhat
Now the next prediction is 2012 when all the planets line up again.

Except that *all* the planets do not lign up then, or ever, really.

Planetary alignments happen every now and then with one or a couple of the planets, there are a few near-alignments every year, but for ALL planets to actually be in a straight line is pretty much impossible, since the planetary orbits are all tilted in relation to each other. In 1983 all the planets sort of lined up in the same general direction when they were all within a 96 degree angle. Pretty far from a straight line.

    A guy on this site
    www.etsu.edu/physics/etsuobs/starprty/22099dgl/planalign.htm
calculated that an actual straight line with all the planets (and the moon) involved might happen about once every 86 billion-trillion-trillion-trillion years.

As for the earth, sun and the center of the milky way ligning up, it sort of happens once a year, but that's not a straight line either. And even if they did lign up in an exactly straight line, the milky way is way too far away to actually have any effect on the earth at all.
  44. idealpinkrose
Many people say it will. I also saw it on tv many times about the people's predictions. I even saw it in my dream which is posted here idealpinkrose.blogspot.com/2009/08/my-dream-about-end-of-world.html but I still don't believe that it would really end on that time. Nobody knows.
  45. Funkkeejooce
If it ends, there's not much we will be able to do. We will all be on the same boat.

It just remind me of a saying which i like: Life may not be the party we hope for, but while we're here, we should dance.

  52. Mkcoy
Oh come on people! What a complete load of nonsense. I don't care if you dislike me for this but seriously. WAKE UP!!......

The Earth has been here for BILLIONS of years. Why is it going to end in 2012 or 2060 ?????????????

Ohhh but the mayans said and the planets are alined and my tea leaves predict. Well then... It must be true eh!!!!

People like to think this because they want something big to happen in their life time. People want to make these things up for many reasons but it does not happen.

The earth will "probably" be here for billions of more years. Just enjoy the life you have and stop belieiving in absolute rubbish that you know is "rubbish".
    1. BetsyIckes
I pretty much agree with you. I think the world we be around much longer then mankind due to what we do to ourselves.
