Nah, how many times did people panic saying the world was going to end on a certain date? And we are still here. Besides wouldn't 06/06/2006 been the better date?
-
-
Well technically if you believe in that date being the last day on the mayan calendar then the day after that day would be the end of days. 12/21/2012 would simply be the last day.
-
-
Of course that's ridiculous. The world wasn't created with our 2,000-year-old calendar in mind, now was it?
-
I have seen many end dates were scheduled but we have passed them all.
However, in Buddhist belief, there were many millions years left before the world will be washed. -
-
It might, It might not. Hell, it could happen tomorrow. The real question would be:
Are you ready to face death?-
Good question. Jesus warns us to be "ready".
Luke 12:39 - And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through. 40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
-
Only God knows when that time will be. In the book of Revelation He lets us know the things to come. Politics and Religion is a great place to listen about the things that are happening right now. www.endtime.com

well !! i dont think so -- on what basis are u all talking things like - for the world to end maybe sun should become a black dwarf or something or else some comets should come and hit the earth !! then only it will . i suppose so ,, hmm i dont believe in anysort of such superstitions and i dont like to discuss much about things like
-
-
No, it won't end on that date. The Day of the Lord will be 7 years after the antichrist confirms the covenant (aka Mideast Peace Treaty)
-
-
-
No doubt this world has to end soon but our Creator has not informed anyone about its exact date, even Prophets of God were not given this knowledge.
-
Why December 21th?
Why not December 20th? Isn't it much cooler?
Like, 20/12/2012, the day the world ended.
20122012.
Unless you insist in writing the month before the day, than this won't work. 12/20/2012? Bah, so lame. 12/21/2012? No sense either. -

no! they also said that the world would end in the year 2000 but look we are still here...no one can predict the future...
-
The world was going to end June 6, year 6999. (6/6/6999) I say "WAS". Because it was the plan. A couple of neurons got it wrong, however, and arrived at the same place and moment in time 6 a.m.June 6, in the year 999. (6/6/6/999) KA_POW! Reality collapsed.
And VIRTUAL reality was born. Where we've existed every sense. Tough. But that's the way it is. -
No! No! No!

Frankly there is supposed to be an astronmy planet line up around that day but it's probably happened before. Odds on that it has, since people claim the world is millions of years old.
Either it will ... Or it won't.
What do you believe? -
-
I hate these topics. There's always a date the world will supposedly end. When 2012 passes uneventfully, the doomsdayers will come up with another one. Lets face it. When the world ends, it'll probably happen when no one is expected it. So why waste your time and effort worrying about it?
-
Excellent point. It will definitely happen when nobody expects it.
2 Peter 3:10 - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

I've written about this before (link above), but I'll summarize it here if you don't want to bother reading my old crap:
No.
I can make a strong inductive argument against the world coming to an end on December 21, 2012 as predicted by the Mayans.
First, the people who made the prediction were superstitious alcoholic cannibals. I wouldn't exactly go as far as to call them experts on future events. Sure, they looked at the stars. Yes, they allegedly predicted Cortes. Have you guys ever heard of "postdiction"?
Second, we know very little about Mayan culture because their books, traditions, and beliefs were obliterated by those delightful Spaniards who valued their Christian beliefs over the entire field of anthropology. Jerks.
Finally, there is a strong statistical correlation between hype amongst New Agers and disappointment. In fact, the world has not ended once in the past 200 years.
Therefore, it is extremely unlikely that anything significant will happen on that day. -

Jesus lived 2000 years ago, for about 36 years, and earth is about 4.5 billion years old.
So, indeed, I guess he did not know about the end of the world.
And most probably, it was not his main concern...-
farangrakthai - The first part of your statement "Jesus lived 2000 years ago, for about 36 years" is true (although most people believe Jesus lived for about 33 years). But the second part of your statement "and earth is about 4.5 billion years old" is inconsistent. The belief that the earth is billions of years old is typically one held by Darwinists. Most Christians believe the earth to be about 10,000 years old.
Additionally, you might want to read the New Testament. Jesus did speak about the "end of the world". But in other places, He also spoke about "this world" and "the world to come".
The world will not be "completely" destroyed, but there will be something called the "end of the age" where the world will be transformed, or as some would say "completely overhauled". Will that happen in 2012? You will have to ask God that one, but I don't think He intends to "leak that information to the press" anytime soon.

The world will never end. Revelation 11:15 "And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever".
If Christ is to reign over the world for "ever and ever", then logic would have it that the world will continue as long as He rules over it. "World without end". -
This reminds me of the hoopla of Y2K. Remember that? I had a roommate who bought into that whole mess. She even quit her job and moved back home because she was certain that disaster was coming. For months I continued to receive her junk mail selling survival equipment.

My calendar ends on 31 December 2009. Does that mean the world is going to end on that date? Or that I need a new calendar?
Unfortunately for the Maya...and the intellectually lazy everywhere...the culture that created their long range calendar was destroyed by the Conquistadores and the knowledge necessary to create the new calendar, destined to begin on 22 December 2012, has been lost.
There's nothing more mystical or sinister to it than that. -

It feels creepy when people start talking about this.
Global warming, global dimming, Meteor and even paranormal start talking about this. And now blogger?
Well, whatever will be, will be .. all living will face the same fact, the death. Either it happens at the same time with the end of the world, or before. -
CAN I ask a QUESTION?
I the MAYAN Calendar ENDS on that date --- WHEN DOES IT START?
Has anyone bothered to see if we just start over on the time table - if the END - MEETS the Beginning?
I mean - come on - the Mayans did a LOT of things in Circles.
Has anyone LOOKED into it?
Because sigh - maybe that was mathematically the correct point to make it a PERFECT circle --- like the planets align from DAY one - to Day End... And then it starts all over again.
Someone - please look up my bizarre theory - and let me know IF that is possible - and IF it is --- THEN WE WILL BE RICH.
OK?

May be it will! Have Governments published any safety measures, precautions, or any guidelines for public? I'm curious, oh nervous as well!

I wrote a satirical piece on this: hotforjesusformerfundie.blogspot.com/2009/06/local-girl-seriously-pissed-of...
Needless to say, I have no patience for 2012 theories. It falls on my birthday. I'm inviting everyone to either accept me as the savior of the world or join the birthday bash I'm saving up for. I labeled it "an ode to the onion" in that I'm so burned out on end-time theology and conspiracy theories that the only way for me to approach it is to turn it into something funny. I think the piece turned out quite well in that regard.
Also, in the post I call for a boycott of the movie... or at least send in your popcorn/diet coke money to a non-faith based charity of your choice. Read it... it is good for a chuckle. -

A lot has been said in regards to December 21, 2012. If it were only the Mayan calendar 2012 that ended on that date December 21, we all could say “well they just got tired and ended it there” and that would be sufficient. But the truth is from ancient profits such as Merlin, the Delphi Oracle, Mother Shipton, the Oracle of the Old Roman Empire (the Sybilline Prophecies), Nostradamus 2012, the Ye Jinn or (I Ching), and Edgar Cayce, web bots, and the Bible which has a perfect record of predictions.
All of these prophets and more can’t be discounted, wished away or simply ignored. See surviving12-21-2012.blogspot.com
Bobbie Lamb-
Sure they can be ignored or wished away. The only people who tries to tie these "prophecies" together (and need I say they have to bend and stretch the dates a bit) are people completely unaware of how the long count calendar worked. McKenna changed his I-Ching date to fit the Calendar.
Interpreters of Nostradamus has predicted the end of the world many times before. 2012 is their new date and I'll bet we will have new prophecies after this year as well.
I'll go for freeatlast as our saviour.
-
It must be another SCAM. You know, this world will never have 'one same day calendar'. When Mayan is 12/21/12, it is already 12/22/12 in my place. So, is it 12/21/12 at Mayan time, or 12/21/12 at my country time this world will end?

Fortunately no. A second sun arriving in our system in 2012 could be seen as a significant event. This is a brief explanation;
As with the previous planets, Neptune was found to have perbutations in its orbit. When Pluto was discovered in 1930 it was first thought that this must be Neptunes perturber. When you run the numbers it's not Pluto, basically it's too small, Pluto is smaller than our moon and so could not act on Neptune with such force.
In 1992 NASA issued a landmark press release which stated that " Unexplained deviations in the orbits of Pluto and Neptune point to a large outer solar system body of 4-8 earth masses on a highly tilted orbit, beyond 7 billion miles from the sun."
This large body of 4-8 earth masses has an orbit around our sun, so once in a while because of it's eliptical orbit its going to pass through our system. Now imagine the magetic force thats going to have on the other planets as it rips through the system.
The fact that this object has not been spotted except by NASA's IRAS infra red telescope has led to the belief that rather than another planet it is fact a Brown Dwarf - a star that has gone out. As this brown dwarf gets closer to the sun there will be a surge of reaction within the two which could eventually reignite the smouldinging heart of the brown dwarf turning on a second light in our system.-
A second sun? Well, even if it is a brown dwarf it should have been detected by astronomers by now. It should be quite near and since astronomers can detect black holes thousands of light years away, they should have no problem detecting something only a few lightminutes or lighthours away. This second sun/Planet X/Nibiru/Marduk is complete bogus, solely based on Sitchin's pseudoscience.

I keep bumpin this thread, but I just can't help it.
The world is going to end when GOD,says so. Until that day happens lean back look @ the heavens and say "THX 4 2day". Then turn on a good song and make a memory!-
Haecceities, how can that be? Sitchin is a contemporary.
"even if it is a brown dwarf it should have been detected by astronomers by now"
It has been detected as early as the 80's according to Nasa statements back then. There has been no more mention of it since, simply because if it's going to pass earth there is nothing we can do to stop it. The spewing radiation from the suns would scorch the earth. It's been decided that its better for us to be taken by suprise than risk civil unrest and the ensuing misery that may cause for the years leading up to the event. The idea being, people will live out their lives more peacefully and happier in ignorance.
Happy Days. -
Yes, Sitchin is still alive and making non-scientific predictions that some people buy into.
Give me a reference to that discovery in the 1980's (that cites NASA and not some pseudoscientist). Nevermind, if you find this to be difficult (I'll bet it is) here is an easier exercise: if you had a second sun this close to the Earth you should be able to spot it with your own eyes by now because it assumed to have an orbit of a couple of thousand years. If it existed and no one can spot it now it would mean that it is so far away that no astronomical equipent can detect it. However, if it is supposed to be near Earth in 3.5 years it must suddenly accelerate to an enormous speed. This does not fit the physics in astronomy that I studied at university. Maybe you can explain this physics to me (apart from the NASA conspiracy theory you mentioned)? I am not sure people will have a better life if they live in ignorance, just see the ignorant believers of the 2012 hoax. They must live in a terrible fear. If you want people to feel good about 2012, let it be then. Do not predict catastrophes that will not occur.

A brown dwarf is not a sun untill it ignites. The orbit is eliptical! of billions of miles in length not thousands. I am suprised that an 'astronomy student' has not come across this. I don't expect anyone to take MY word for it, don't ever let people spoon feed you, look it up yourself, I could tell you anything!
I'm putting it out there as the old mayan & nostradamus things a bit old now. Look at this theory in context with THE ARK project in Norway and the number of underground facilities in the US, are you sure we're all not gonna burn?-
I am very well aware of what a brown dwarf is, it was you who called it a second sun was it not? As you see in my comment above I mentioned Planet X/Nibiru (yes, a brown dwarf is not exactly a planet either)... Who said anything about thousands of miles? I talked about lightminutes and lighthours. One lightminute is 18 million km and a lighthour is roughly 1 billion km.
Even if such an object is located where Saturn is today it would be seen since all objects reflect sunlight. Such an object can perhaps make the distance between Saturn and the Earth in 3.5 years, but then it would already have be seen by our own eyes. If it is located further out and is not detected by astronomical equipment (they do not just use optical telescopes, they can detect things not visible to the eye) it must accelerate enormously and that is not supported by science either.
My main issue is that people associate this with December 21, 2012. Why this date? In case you and others do not know, some correlations between the Long Count and the Gregorian calendar suggests the date is December 23, 2012. Some even suggests that the correlation error may be as great as 60 days or more. For more information:
members.shaw.ca/mjfinley/corr.html
But I guess we should skip all these complex correlation questions because, apparently, Sitchin and other pseudoscientists who know nothing about the Long Count calendar already know what will happen.

There is justifiable material which suggests that the Mayans predicted that the world would end then, but how i dont know. There are many ways it could end, its best to research the conspiracies, and learn a little philosophy 101 to grasp some of the theories.:)
