Just curious and wanted to know.
How passionate are you in blogging?
Are you still going to continue to blog if you know that it does not make you any money?

Let me answer your question in the following way:

I tried blogging because I was curious about it. When I found the adsense option on my blogger layout designer, I was impressed that free blogs are allowed to make money.

Then I learned more and excited about it and continuing it. When I finally made some money, I found that I could use the blog to let the people know about me and my thoughts on marketing.
Thats why I will continue my blog, even I get bankrupt or any thing worst happens. I will continue to motivate people around me.
    1. shawnlim
      That was great to hear.
Well I hope that you will achieve your goals one day.
      Keep it up man.

I haven't made any money on my blogs. I will not have any ads on my blogs.

OOOh..I can make money..AND SO CAN YOU.

People with money making blogs and spouting half-arsed half-baked get rich quick sermons are ruining places like this and the name of Blogging.

Well, it hasn't made me anything yet and I've been at it for over a year, so I'd have to say, "Yes." I have some minor attempts at advertising on my blog, but nothing I'm serious about and nothing that it would break my heart to remove.

I enjoy the writing and the interaction. Everything else would be gravy, it it existed. I make a bit on-line from other sources and I have a job. My blog is for me (and those kind souls who actually read the thing).
  9. clioandme
If you were to use the directory, you'd notice a great number of us have not monetized our blogs. You could probably also draw some conclusions about people's passions for communicating with others on the internet from the level of involvement on these boards.
  10. OutsideMyBrain
    Good Point Mark...

I would like to add that unfortunately, monetizing your blog ruins your integrity. It becomes very difficult to meet people here (or anywhere on the net) without having dollar signs in your eyes.

And believe me, people can see right through their computers you know... Google does it. Don't believe me? Try hitting the menu bar on an embedded YouTube video and click on the microphone and watch the sound level bounce around as you talk... you really think you just turned your mic on? Or, was it on the whole time... Hmmmmmm... whoah, sorry way off topic.

Yes, I will continue to blog if I don't make money, because there are no ads on my sites. I like it that way, because I don't feel like I have to have an ulterior motive to get people to come to my sites. They either want to massively improve themselves and those around them, or they want to laugh their heads off. Either way, I've got them covered.
    1. legbamel
"[M]onetizing your blog ruins your integrity." I beg to differ, but I do agree that blogging solely to make money means that your blog is not a blog but a series of ads and thus worthless to me.
    2. clioandme
Monetizing doesn't have to ruin your integrity. It's a question of how it's done and what kind of content stands behind it.
    3. shawnlim
Well, it is ok for me to make money from blogs.
However, please don't forget that it is the passion that drives us to take all the actions. So, it is the passion that is making us the money after all.

Therefore, don't focus in making money in your blogs, focus in how you can give more, and money will follow.

Blogging is not about making money online... :-) Blogging is mainly about having fun and when the advertisement pays the webhosting costs, it is nice... :-)

I'm not making anything off either of my blogs.

I mean, sure, I threw up a tiny little ad on the sidebar of my writing website (planned from the beginning), but really that's more of an experiment.

Besides, I'm more interested in sharing my thoughts and maybe helping people. Comments, subscriptions, and page views mean far more to me than any money I could make.
  14. MalMNN
absolutely, i enjoy it because of my passion for music

I started not making money and I'm good whether I make it or not.
  16. wolfcreek
Frankly...I don't make a dime, now! So, if I didn't enjoy what I was doing, I'd have never started, posted, or signed up to hang out at BC.
  17. mariamichelle
I had no idea what adsense was when I started my blog. It's not as though I think it will make a difference now that I do. My site does not get terribly high traffic. I do think it's kinda fun trying
  18. Closeoutindustry
When the money stops...so do I. I am here for $$. God that felt good...I ought to open up more....
  19. blackmoon
    yeah, I think so!

Well, honestly I made more than a hundred bucks since I publicly open my blog and do those paid per post thingy since early april 2008 or mid march 2008 somewhere in between ... I enjoyed it ... but I only write what appeals to me and not just grab every opportunity available...

Who doesn't want any extra cash when they can have it so easy anyway right? Those who said they don't are hypocrits (in my opinion anyway no offense meant)
    1. richrf
      @earthlingorgeous

Nice job in developing your blog. I think you revenue is excellent for where you are at. Which of your blogs is getting more hits and more revenue? I think your blog is a good model for developing a following, traffic, and ad revenue. Congratulations.

I was wondering if you knew of anyone else on this forum that has similar type of success, and/or if you used any other blog as the model for your own?

I don't think anyone here is saying that they wouldn't take free money if the conditions didn't clash with their principles. I'd take a fat advertising payment, if the ad was relevant and did not distract from my content. I won't, however, advertise Joe Blow's keyword stuffing software with a huge, blinking banner to make $2 a month (or $20, for that matter). A girl's got to have her standards. Personally, I find the label "hypocrite" a very harsh one for people who are saying that they blog because they enjoy it and not to make money. I can't speak for others, but it happens to be true for me.
  22. RTBjr73
I do for a release. If money ever comes to me, so be it.

But it really is for the fun of it. I love sports, and I love to laugh. That's why I started my blogs.
  23. timethief
I have never blogged for money.
  24. nardeeisms
Not making any now. Still blogging. So I guess the answer is: Yes - Nards
  25. Pumpkin12pm
Currently I'm just blogging because I enjoy it. In the future I may have a business for which blogging is a tool for me to reach my customers, in that case if there was no return on time invested then I would stop. A blog isn't a business in and of itself.
  26. thesemoderntimes
Yes, because my blog is not about making money. No ads. No products. No sales pitch of any sort. No ideology and no religion. It's just about hopefully helping people feel less angry, stressed, flaming. Also hopefully good for a few laughs. Cheers!
  27. WokeupToday
Fortunately I've been pulling in more than $100 each month - all of it goes to charity....motivates me to keep on keeping on!
  28. shawnlim
Seems like many of you are blogging not for the sake of money, which is a great thing eh.

    Keep It Going~!

I think I would, unless i run out of passion or simply get too busy to blog.
  30. Fusionista
I write because I love to write, and because I like the interaction with other bloggers. I'm not making any money off my blog and I'm totally fine with that.
  31. shawnlim
After all, it is still depends on our own
opinion about making money from blogs.

If you blog for the passion, congrats.
If you blog for passion and in the same time make
some money from it, even better.

It ain't making me money now, so...
    1. braincatcher
So do I. And I don't have a lot of traffic either. and that's b'coz I don't promote it. It's my blog. If you read it and helped you, I'll be glad. If you don't, It's your loss not mine. It's a record of thoughts and valuable works that can be compiled someday. And I'll be happy on that day, even if it did not give me any earnings.
  33. sellytapgirl
I don't particularly care if I make money, so, no, I wouldn't quit blogging if it didn't make me money.
  34. kat822
wait, you can make money with the crap we write, now you tell me
  35. G8rbryan
My blog wasn't created to make money and it's a good thing......I would starve.
  36. foovay
I blogged before it made me a dime and will undoubtedly continue blogging regardless of whether it makes me money or not. I enjoy it, and I enjoy the thought that other people find something I created to be of value.

    I'm weird that way

I don't blog for money. I never really even thought about writing for that reason. Like many others here, I write because I enjoy it. I have a real job that brings in the dough.
    1. crpitt
      Nice seeing you Mr GlossGreen
  39. satijournal
I just blog for the hell of it. Unless you have a tremendous amount of traffic, there are a lot easier ways to make money.
  40. Mysterytune
If you truly believe in what your writing about, then it shouldn't matter about traffic and how much money you make.

Live to blog, not blog to live!!
  41. mariamichelle
What money? I find it relaxing, besides I hope I am making a difference for animals - even a small one.
  42. rightcommentary
My blog has no advertising and has cost a few hundred to maintain...

... so I think that answers that question.
    1. Anniepooh
Why is there a cost to maintain? Do you have your own url?
  43. Anniepooh
Coming up on three years in just a week or so and haven't made any money.
  44. bittertruth
occasionally, I get checks just from blogging, which I not so excitedly deposit into my bank on regular basis, although i'm not so keen on making money online, but I'm making some bucks.. even if I don't get any money, I won't stop blogging... just my passion...

I started with free blogging platform, as I started to earn, I bought my first domain meroguff.com, then with the passing time, I earned more and I've bought 3 other domains(don't want to mention here) and excellent web hosting services. Then I started to hire people to write contents for me, they worked for me on Contract basis, I paid them. Now, recently I partnered with some group and again not-so-excitedly working on one blog. You know it costs money, and believe it or not, I didn't spend any of the money that I earned through my regular job. whatever I spent online, it's all from from Online Income. But one thing I confess, my Pulsar watch and Samsung Mp3 player, they are bought from the online income. So, seriously, I haven't been into any money making ventures but yeah, I'm earning regularly from blogging. I'm not here to show off, but if you are passionate about blogging it pays you buddy. Even when you don't put effort to make money, put quality content, your own experience. that's it.

Don't stop blogging because u didn't earn anything, that would be against the true spirit of blogger.

I don't believe today's Internet Marketers as bloggers. They are just using blogging platform for their own benefits and giving it wrong meaning to general people. Blogging is not for money making but for passion.
  45. DaytonPundit
I don't make any money on it now...no ads or subscription fees...it keeps me 'unowned' and free to do what I want with the site...
  46. kaguvkov
Yes I will still blog even if I would get nothing from it especially money. I will blog for pleasure.
  47. balidreamhome
I am now, as I am blogging not for money but it doesn't mean if somebody willing to pay me for doing something while blogging lol
  48. nursarahlam
I am still not earning anything yet but then I start blogging not because I want to earn money from it..
  49. unipsycho
What? You can make money blogging?

Seriously though, making money blogging over a long term is really hard. I don't do it for that, but don't mind a bit of cash from the blog to cover costs and add a little more satisfaction over and above the traffic, comments and communication with others.
  50. gingerbeer25
I really hope for spin off opportunities from blogging. I would love to get into some paid freelance writing. That would be enough to make me happy.
  51. catycat
well, im not actually gaining money from my blog, but still i love to write..
  52. roentarre
Of course. As long as there is readership. Money does not matter at all!
  53. EmpressWingMay
I don't really make any money on my blog, but I still blog. I don't promote my blog either. I just like to scream into an empty void, or a vast abyss, as if I'm praying to an absent God. Just kidding! Kind of.

I do have ads on there though, because in the Blogger template you can practically just throw it on the blog as soon as you start. I use it to see how many people visit, because it keeps track for you. I didn't want to put a counter on my blog, because I think it's kind of pointless unless you get tons of traffic. That's just me, though.
  54. dosox
I love changing & editing my blogger templates..
but I don't really blog for money.
  55. wehireu
I don't make money directly from blogging. It has helped me focus a little bit better on what I am doing. I have gotten into a convention for free, received a free book, and been cited by several authors for my reviews. There are other benefits to blogging that are not immediately financial.

It has helped my writing considerably. It has also helped me with improving my designs for things like fliers and brochures. I think I am doing a better job with this because I have learned a lot from blogging.
  56. bwninzer
Absolutely. I feel obligated to share free and honest health and fitness information with the world. I'm glad that experts in other areas feel the same way about sharing the info they have gathered in their lives.
  57. idealpinkrose
yes, i started to blog before I knew those sites where I can make money...actually, i don't make much...
  58. johanfry
Better if you earned...but not really
  59. TZY
I'd still blog. I never earn anything from my blog.
