I am going to go to Blog World this year. I won't enter your contest because I can actually afford the trip and I am sure there are other people out there who have a far greater need than I have.
I'm definitely going this year, though--who else is going?-
Yes let us know who is planning on going...maybe I can convince the boss people to host a BC dinner or get together of some sort!
Melinda, if you have not purchased your pass yet, there is a discount code for BC members that is included in the blog post about the contest...I forgot to mention that in the OP!

Wow...so only two bloggers out of this whole place have any interest in coming to BlogWorld? That's disappointing
Well, here are the full details for those who haven't clicked through to the blog post to see what the deal is:
For the past 2 years, the BlogCatalog team has had an absolute blast hanging out with other social media professionals and meeting some of our members at BlogWorld & New Media Expo. The generous hosts of BlogWorld & New Media Expo 2009 want you to be one of the members we have the pleasure to meet there this year! We are going to give away a free 3-day, full access pass (valued at $1195) for this year’s event being held October 15-17, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV.
Winning the pass is quite simple. There are only two things you need to do. First, you have to be a BlogCatalog member. Second, you have to tell us why we should pick you to attend this event with us. Write a blog post, make a YouTube video, record a podcast or use any other form of new media to tell us why you are the BC member who should be chosen to party with us in Las Vegas. Just link or tag your entry to the BlogCatalog Site and the Blog World and New Media Expo site, leave us a comment here letting us know you have entered and leave a link to your blog post, your YouTube Video, your podcast or whatever form of submission you are submitting.
Entries will be taken until Midnight (12:00 a.m. CST) on Tuesday September 15, 2009. The winner will be announced on Friday September 19, 2009. The winner will receive the 3-day full access pass for BlogWorld & New Media Expo 2009, and a dinner in Las Vegas with the BlogCatalog team. Winner receives an event pass only. Travel and lodging are not included.
All BlogCatalog members can receive a 20% discount on BlogWorld & New Media Expo 2009 tickets. Our BlogCatalog community discount code is: BC20 and can be applied to any package from now until the event. This discount can be applied to already discounted prices (BlogWorld’s discount pricing ends on 9/14/09). -

Travel and lodging are not included.
IMO that's the lion's share of the expenses. As I struggle to make a living and as my income level is just above the Canadian poverty line I can't afford to pay for travel and accommodation, so that let's me out of this and/or any other such opportunities.
I wonder how many BC members who do post regularly to the forum are in the same position that I'm in. And, I wouldn't be surprised if I heard that we were the majority.-
I was actually running numbers in my head here and decided to do some price checking.
With BlogWorld discounts, a room for 3 days at the LV Hilton would be approximately $210. Cheaper rates may be available at smaller casinos, motels, etc.
Not sure about international flights, but many airlines in the US are offering really good deals and a brief search I did brought up round trip tickets for $218.00 from from New York to Las Vegas (this was a non-promotional price on Orbitz.com). If you are closer to vegas than New York, the price may be cheaper. Seattle was $138.00 and San Francisco was $98.00 round trip.
So, that's $438.00 (using the NY flight price) for travel and lodging...much less than the $1195 for the 3-day pass we're giving away. -
Thanks for the calculations. lol
I live in Canada. The closet international to me is in Vancouver. To get to that airport alone is a car ride, ferry, float plane flight, plus a taxi to get to. Then having paid for all those I would have the international flight before me to pay for as well. I simply assumed the transportation and accommodation costs were the lion's share.
Best wishes to the winner.

Are you kidding me?! I'd love to come! I've just been away for a few days, but clearly it's time to plot and plan to try and get myself there! Now.... I must get inspired for my post ;-)

Wait.. people want to possibly spend over $1,000, IN A RECESSION, to come to blog conference? That's.. well.. devotion isn't strong enough of a word. $1,000 is a bit much. I can't be the only person to realize how absurd it seems to pay that much to mingle with other people who type things that show up on the internet( ok, maybe that's a simplified explanation of blogging) and love HTML formatting.
MAYBE if it was closer and FREE I would consider it. -
