I'm about to have a phone interview for a job I REALLY REALLY want! I'm quite nervous about it...

It's a nanny job so I don't have to just come across as competent, but also friendly and likeable! EEK!

So...I want you to wish me luck! And for fun, let's come up with the worst things I could possibly say during this conversation!

You are going to do just fine -- good luck!

It's my experience that the worst things people said to me in interviews were things they volunteered. IMO the best approach is to answer questions truthfully and fully, and read body language and facial expression when you reply to them. What you "read" will help you know where to expand and where to truncate.

good advice...if only I had a video phone!
  2. Epicharis
I'm still nervous though... coming across as likeable is not something I'm all that good at!

Good Luck - and chin up!

best of luck!!! may you get the best job!! Chin up!!

And I don't believe that you can't come across as likeable.

That's just not what I see in you - and if they are the right people - that is NOT what they will see in you either.

      *hug* you so nice!

My luck be with you grasshopper. ;-)

    Don't mention your religious views...

    And have some coffee

Good Luck! Use a Darth Vader voice changer, I think you'll come off as more friendlier that way.

    hahaha! Nice advice, guys!

I just got an email from a Mormon family in NY offering $4000 a month to be their live-in nanny...if only I was capable of making it more than a day without starting a religious debate! damn...
    1. Agit8r
I wonder if "live-in nanny" is Mormon-code for something 0_o
    2. nothingprofound
It's a hoax. There are no Mormons in NY.
    3. Epicharis
how do you know there aren't any Mormons in NY? are they registered on a database?! hehe...it certainly did look too good to be true, though...

      also, Agit8r...naughty!
    4. Agit8r
Massechusetts had a Mormon governor awhile back

speaking of DATABASES though... spinoff thread!

Maybe Siuil should watch "Big Love" in order to prep for her new "position"
    6. Epicharis
      hahaha!
    7. nothingprofound
@Siuil: Yes, I belong to MormonWatch. We're on the job 24 hours a day.
    8. Epicharis
      haha!

That was a joke, right? It's hard to tell with Americans!

Be positive and enthusiastic and let your intelligence shine through.

The worst thing would being dull and giving one word answers.

    Good Luck.

No need to be nervous. You'll do great.

I'm feeling much happier now that I'm listening to a fave song of mine though she was supposed to call 'around 5 or 6' ...so hopefully she'll call soon!

Good luck to you! Phone interviews can be worse than "in person" ones. You can't read their body language and adjust accordingly. I wish you well!

And don't mention that you are a recovering kleptomaniac.
  14. gtally
Best of luck. Go get 'em, tiger!
  15. Epicharis
I have returned from the 2 minute phone interview...not so much an interview as a 'come to dinner on Monday'...eek!
    1. Agit8r
you need an acting coach, huh

jk. Are you good with kids?
    2. Epicharis
haha! Yeah, I am good with kids...believe it or not! Plus, it allows me to be bossy legitimately...
    3. Agit8r
      BONUS! lol
    4. Anok
Well good luck on the dinner then, since I missed the good luck on the 2 minute phone interview bit...

    5. Epicharis
      hehe...thanks Anok

hmm...what to wear? Need to find an outfit that is simultaneously smart, fun, makes me look active but makes me look like a responsible adult...right...
    6. Agit8r
      dress up like Mary Poppins
    7. Epicharis
hahahahaha! excellent idea! why didn't I think of that?! Hmm...Nanny McPhee is a little more contemporary, perhaps I'll stick on a few warts...
    8. Agit8r
Mary poppins is better known... that would really freak them out.

I have always wanted to make a hidden camera style web video of prank job interviews. Never really figured out how to pull it off though.
    9. Anok
There's a guy now with a "cyber eye" he's got a camera in his glass eye. you should try that for taping pranks
    10. Agit8r
do I have to pluck an eye out? o_0
    11. Epicharis
no half measures...are you a true prankster?!
    12. Agit8r
      appearently not
