Without thinking about it...What is the first commercial........

I want to do a new survey post on my Great Ads blog.

Whether you like or hate watching commercials we have all seen some memorable commercials in our time.

Try not to think about it for more than a second or two and what is the first commercial or advertising campaign that comes to your mind?

I can't say the first, but the first jingle that came to mind is Oscar Meyer's. Then there was Chiquita Banana. Too bad these days they appropriate popular songs instead of writing their own.

I agree stoneman, advertising was much more innocent and more effective years ago.

  Remember the Frito Bandito?! They pulled him off the air because he was supposedly "offensive", but when Hispanics were polled they overwhelmingly said quite the opposite.

Over here in the UK, my earliest memory of a commercial was for 'HOVIS' bread. A boy walking up a steep cobbled street and a Yorkshire accented voice over.

It was so successful that they brought it back in the nineties as a kind of tribute.

Burger King - the ads featuring "the King." He's terrified me since he first began plugging their "meatnormous" breakfast items.

Another would be those "things" that sang about our need to "eat Quiznos subs" several years ago. They were like retarded field mice.

Oh, how wretched. The first thing that came to mind was the Bud. Weis. Er. frogs on the back of a crocodile.

I don't like beer and haven't watched anything on TV in over 5 years. Why would that spring to mind, of all things? At least it could've been the "I'm so happy" Geico commercial (which came to mind second, for utter ridiculous over-the-top-ness.)

Maybe that's why I stopped paying for cable.

I'm always a sucker for those 'funniest videos' ever series.. with animals .. and/or satirical comedic commercials (like the old pepto bismo or Wendy's commercials)
