Topics: designers who might be gay, fashion and skinny women, things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm
I've just been thinking lately.
PLEASE NOTE - I am not saying gay is bad or good with this commentary - so please don't jump on a strange homophobic or anti-homophobic rant - ok?
I've been watching all of these fashion models and divas.
I've been looking into fashion history.
I've been watching design and other things.
The funny thing I noticed:
A vast majority of the people in charge of fashion are Gay Males.
Hmmmmmm....
No Wonder the women are not curvy.
I mean really. Think about it. All of those women who appear to be androgynous - maybe they aren't the height of Heterosexual Beauty...
Maybe - by thinking that women who are androgynous (not curvy, etc.) are beautiful - maybe the male society is giving into latent tendencies - without even knowing it...
*giggle*
OK - I know that this conversation is probably going to stir up some interesting responses.
But before you reply - please know that I am not denigrating anyone. OK? So please don't go off on a Homophobic rant or BE a ranting homophobe in your responses. (smile)
Alright?
I just found it to be a humorous notation.

There is actually something to the adage that women's clothes are so uncomfortable (pointed toed high heels anyone) because MEN designed them. I don't know if it is all gay men--because there are quite a few straight male clothing designers--but I do think that does play a role and has always played a role in the comfortablity factor of female clothing design.

haha, interesting point here...hmm. it is strange that most of the fashion designers are gay men. androgynous seems to be the way to go...there's this fad hitting runways where the women have no eyebrows, either bleached out or shaved/waxed off. androgynous looks seem to be filtering into the world of male models too, with some looking so much like women, if not for the lack of boobs, you could actually end up thinking they were women. and perhaps the hetero male part of society does in fact want women to be more like them...who knows, perhaps deep down, everyone is actually bisexual.
i'm not so sure it's so much a gay man's way of making women look more like men but instead a wanting of everyone to look like robots.-
Not a bad theory there Auilus - not bad at all. It might be very true that inherently (regardless of social conditioning) that all creatures have bi-sexual proclivities...
And it is interesting - robotic looking... I'm not so sure.
I mean - really some of the best models - they actually look to be pubescent Teenage boys. (at least in body type.)
Although - there are some out there - that are incredibly well fit, highly sporty women.

I read somewhere that when you see just a leg in a commercial for beauty products on TV, it's often a man's leg. Supposedly it looks more aestetically pleasing or something. Then again, commercials are full of sneaky tricks like that.

I'm telling you what. That's interesting.
My hubby has some of the SEXIEST thighs anywhere.
I've never thought of shaving them and seeing how he looks in heels tho....
Hmmmmmmm... Yanno - I've got a good pair of Pradas around here somewhere that would look good on anyone... He's sleeping right now... Hmmmm. Ya think he'd notice if I took a razor to him?
ROFLMAO!
Oooh - now there are some seriously BAAAAAAAD thoughts going through my head. I better go crawl into bed before I get too silly and actually do something.
Oh the poor hubby.
He's going to just die when I tell him I was thinking about doing that. *EVIL GIGGLE* -
Ooooh you should have an evil hex put on you... I have to shave every 3 hours if I want to stay smooth and clean... Sigh. I am cursed with a 2 o'clock shadow on my legs. But my hair on my head only grows an inch a year or something creepingly slow like that.
Oh the poor hubby - he'd kill me.
Either that or he'd get me back. I might wake up bald or something. LOL!
We tend to play practical jokes on each other. (it's amusing...)

Well if you look at the fashion models they are usually skinny, tall, small breasts and very little curves. But if you look at the Maxim model types theyve got more curves and usually big boobs. Maxim is oriented to straight males, so it an indication than men prefer curves?

over dinner i dicussed this topic with my mom, who studied fashion in college back in the late 60's. she said that the reason the designers had for wanting such skinny models was so that you would see the clothes, not what was wearing them. she also said that as clothes got "skimpier" and "shorter" the models needed to have thin, tall forms so as not to appear "skanky". she said that had the women been curvy, the clothing would have looked bad. which led her to continue on about how impractical the designs were (and still are) for everyday people.

That is very interesting.
I know that there was a big fanfare when "TWIGGY" came out.
So the woman who is skinny - does not matter - is that what those designers were saying?
Ayyyy - this is an interesting topic to be sure.
I mean - who but buys the clothes? All people. So models should be a representative of all body types... At least in my humble opinion.
