Women Of The Bible.

Who was/is your favorite woman of the bible and why?

We know the Bible is really just male Patriarch view of God and a way of life
but what did the women have to say, did they have a say and how did they say it?

What seems to be the central theme of the biblical patriarch male?

What seems to be the central theme of the biblical matriarch female?

Your views are most appreciated in this discussion so bring it.

Grace Jones always cracks me up and here she is telling us that she should not be accepting
and Idol Award because she is from a biblical family. Notice that she is a bit high
or drunk but still you gotta love Grace. www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2SbpkRt-SA

There are plenty of women heroes in the bible but what is up with my BC people,
are they not aware that it was the women who saved the human race in many instances?

Where are you men and women and what is taking you so long to recognize who has
    and holds the power?
  2. dosox
    Martha --> beautiful name.

    Monica Belluci--> Mary Mag
    1. Jeunelle
Monica Belluci is a brilliant actress but she is not a biblical woman but she did play Mary Magdeline. Why is Mary Magdeline a great biblical woman for you dosox?
    2. dosox
Just hoping that Mary Mag looks like Monica Belluci
I don't have any idea about Mary Mag...
    3. Jeunelle
hahahaha well at least you're honest.
Monica is beautiful and a brilliant actress.
  3. nothingprofound
Eve. She brought sex and death into the world.
    1. Jeunelle
Actually Eve questioned a GOD who obviously lied to us by telling us that we would DIE if we ate the fruit but it turned out Adam and Eve lived for over 900 years from their little eat and run. GOD even admitted that the serpent was right all along when the serpent said that they "shall not die".
The serpent told the truth and God admitted and acknowledged that the serpent told the truth and so God lied. Why did God lie? is the question.

Eve attempted to bring LIFE into this world from a GOD who blocked us from partaking and eating from the "TREE OF LIFE"
    2. ionmuniz
You gotta be kidding. Since when did God start finding sex dirty?
    3. Jeunelle
ionmuniz...exactly, Adam and Eve obviously participate in SEX and it was no secret so SEX is not a bad thing if two people are joined together as a couple.
    4. jflower36
It was referring to spiritual death. After she ate the fruit, sin entered the world. There are a lot of passages in the bible to back that up.
    5. Jeunelle
      jflower36...Hello please answer the question.
The question is who is your favorite biblical woman of the bible and why?
    6. dannyvice
Jeunelle, the "death" in question did happen. Everyone dies. Man wasn't originally created to die. Now when you die, how alive will you be? No so much, eh? The human brain only uses about 10% of it's capacity... where do you think the other 90% went? Hummmm?
    7. Jeunelle
@dannyvice...I didn't create this discussion for a lecture on the bible.
I am a scholar of the bible and do read it often.
I asked you a question up above and I hope to get an answer from you.
The question is in case you missed it....who is your favorite biblical woman and why?
  4. Agit8r
I like the one (I forget her name) who hammers the tent peg through the guys head. I always picture the blood poring out... gurgle, gurgle
    1. Jeunelle
Ah yes my favorite Deborah. What a woman she was filled with cunning
      but yet for a cause.

Thank God, God lied! That means I still have 840 years to go. (I just burned up my Medicare card.)
    1. Jeunelle
Only if you ate the from the fruit.
There were 2 trees in the garden.
      #1. The Tree of Knowledge
      #2. The Tree of Life

The serpent is the only one who told EVE the truth and so she had access to the tree and planned a "eat and run" before the Cherubims were placed to drive both Adam and Eve out of the garden.
  6. Agit8r
there's also that virgin chick who has to die because her dumbass dad made a pact before going into a genocidal battle... that shows character (or being dumb as a box of rocks)
    1. ionmuniz
If you read the story carefully and if you know the bible, no human sacrifices were allowed.
The translations are not so clear at the end of the story (it says something about crying with her folks because of her virginity), but the guy certainly didn't kill his daughter.
    2. Jeunelle
Who is this chick that you speak of?....names please
    3. Jeunelle
ionmuniz....HELLO we are not here to challenge other views.
I asked you a question up above and that question is who is your favorite biblical woman? If you cannot stick to the original question please move on.
    4. Agit8r
maybe they sacrificed her virginity to the returning warriors, idk. The text describes barbarians w/ typical barbarian religious notions
    5. Jeunelle
Oh this won't be the 1st time that a woman was sacrificed in the bible to appease some supersition or God.
  7. Floormodel
Zipporah. She was married to Moses and stood up to God (and won) when God was after him and her son.
    1. Jeunelle
Glad you brought them up. Jehovah was known to kill a lot of his worshippers
over little irrelevant things that pissed him off.
Zipporah stood up to this God however she is lucky because this God killed most any uprising in his path and got angry at the most littlest of things.
    2. Floormodel
the story of Zipporah is pretty interesting. I'd like to think I'd stand up to God to save my sons.

But some (coughmalescholarscough)blame her for begining the practice of circumcisions so she gets a raw deal at times.
    3. Jeunelle
Is there EVER a case in this world where the woman isn't blamed for something gone wrong? Woman is the typical scapegoat.
    4. AngieA
      Isn't that the truth
  8. ionmuniz
I'm not catholic, but my "favorite" would be Mary. She was the woman God chose to be the mother of the logos.
    1. Jeunelle
The easiest of choices and one that most women CAN'T relate to.
      Especially the Virgin Birth Episode.
    2. Jeunelle
      Oopps pardon me...wrong spot.
  9. AngieA
Well, this might sound like of silly, but my 1st thought was of Rachel b/c she must have been a “very beautiful women” in every sense of the word. Jacob had to not only marry Leah, the older sister first in order to have Rachel, but ended up slaving for 14 years in order to have her.
Jacob did not have any prize money to offer the family in order to ask for her hand in marriage. In those days the price was equivalent to 7 years of labor if there was no money to offer.
Gets worse: sadly enough he was tricked into marring the oldest daughter first and then had to work another 7 years in order to have Rachel.

14 years is a long time to wait for the women you love.

Anyway, this love story can be found in Genesis 29 and I guess because of the persistence on the man’s behave in order to have her, makes it a great love story.
    1. Jeunelle
@Angie...Yup what a story this was and it always amazed me what a man would go through to have his desire. Even if it means fooling and betraying other women to get it.

Here is the typical male marrying women who he obviously doesn't love
and using them as stepping stones to get to his true love.

Aren't these women also worth love, care and appreciation too and how dare he use them like cattle to get to his goal. You know if you read through these text, the true meaning lies hidden and very slowly, subtlety you get to it's true meaning.

All these women were used as a stepping stone to get to the one. DISGUSTING
    2. Agit8r
It's a good thing that mindset hasn't permeated our society
    3. Jeunelle
@Agit8r...ha the sad thing is it has and there seems to be no cure at the moment.
    4. AngieA
      Uh huh, you are correct!
Can’t imagine being a women in those days, unless of course you are fortunate enough to be the Queen of Sheba.
On the other hand, her story doesn’t have such a happy ending either.

      It hurts to be beautiful!
    5. Jeunelle
AngieA....I understand what you are saying believe me there are so many other facts to look at that really makes you wonder before you allow desire and our imagination to run free in an outcome that we want to see happen.

Many times it's not the case where we are allowed to see our will come to reality.
The facts are facts and even though we would like to see our outcome in a
"willed light of our own", seldom is the case.

Being a woman in those days was brutal. It's a miracle women even survived it at all.

Can you imagine women in the desert with no water and what they had to do when they had their "monthly period" and no water in sight? IT WAS LIVING HELL
  10. AngieA
Gross yes, I have had that thought before, and it’s not a pretty one.

Though I would guess that b/c of the lack of a proper diet or rather lack of food & water, I imagine many of them skipped their cycle.
    1. Jeunelle
hehehehe you are hilarious....I would too I guess, early menopause
  11. sarah123
hands down Rehab. She was wild, a prostitute but eventually did the right thing. SHe knew God when she encountered Him and negotiatied salvation for her and her family. Way to go Rehab.
    1. Jeunelle
YES Rehab is a good one and thank you for mentioning her.
She is a good role model for women who want to do something about their unfortunate status or make a change for the better no matter how bad her circumstances were in the past.
    2. Jeunelle
Glad you brought up Rehab, I almost forgot about her.
  12. Sam1982
    Lillith - does she count?
    1. Jeunelle
YES though Lilith was not an actual woman but Lilith was married to Adam
as his 1st wife before Eve.

Lilith also seemed to have a mind of her own and would not stoop to let Adam dominate her even when God told her to submit to her husband.

She ran off somewhere and left Adam behind I heard to make some children of her own and was said to reside in the desert and desolate places.
Lilith was also later married to Samael.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith
    2. Sam1982
Yep thats pretty much my life summed up in one paragraph haha

I find her the most interesting though because she's often made out to be villainous but depending on how you read it, its not always the case.
    3. Jeunelle
Well remember the bible is clearly a male patriarch written view
and you can bet if the flowers withered it was the woman who caused it.
Women were blamed for mostly anything and everything gone wrong
and in most cases those views are still predominant in many countries and cultures.

In fact there were superstitions that women were not allowed to go outside near the harvest during "Menstration" because they would wither the plants and harvest...lmao
    4. Sam1982
Which really sucks - especially when going through customs as a tourist in those countries. The men go through no problems but the women get a real hard time. Even harder if the woman is outspoken and stands up for herself.
    5. Jeunelle
What is even worst is that most those women were brainwashed into thinking for the male patriarch side and any woman who stood up for womanhood was looked at as a trouble maker and no woman came to her aid to defend her.

These women were clearly brainwashed into believing that this type of woman was a threat to them, their husbands and all that they believed in and this is a prime reason why these men dominated women in those days. Woman did not stick up for woman.
    6. Sam1982
Clearly they need their fix of desperate housewives.

On another note, that link from wikipedia you posted always makes me think of re-incarnation. The fact that the picture of Lilith is almost identical to my fiance (given the time of the painting) and the fact that I share the same name as the artist. Most likely coincidence but it always sends that shiver down my spine.
    7. Jeunelle
LOL well the artist/painter was probably a man and that is his view of what he believes Lilith to look like. I doubt she looks like the painting but hey to each his/her own.
    8. Sam1982
No, I know its an artists interpretation. But as I say it gets my imagination going.
    9. Jeunelle
I just like to tease you...hehehe
You must have a vivid imagination, that can be sexy
    10. Sam1982
      ....Makin me blush

I would hope that a good imagination makes a good writer. I think an imagination is what a lot of adults lack
    11. Jeunelle
      Indeed
    12. AngieA
Wow- I am kind of surprised that “Lilith” came up in this particular subject.
She is mostly heard about in Judaic literature mainly the Talmud.

Its actually an interesting story. Lilith was sort of ½ angel and ½ women as she is described with wings. G-d actually created Lilith for Adam 1st out of clay. When he made Eve, he used one of Adams ribs. Here’s the funny part: Lilith ran away as she couldn’t get along with Adam. She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air.

@Jeunelle, We've come along way baby, as I hear some women today even joy sex on top. lol
    13. Jeunelle
Yup GOD created Lilith out of "impure earth" and surprise, surprise she came out bad.
I would 1st suggest that maybe GOD should create man/woman out of "pure earth", he may get better results....lmao

Yes it looked like Lilith liked to be "on top" and Adam seemed to be a woos
and just won't give it a try. Adam seemed a bit boring to me
    14. Jeunelle
Lilith is interesting because some text says she could NOT have children and other text says she had a daughter. Ailo is a daughter of Lilith that has had intercourse with a man. This story of Lilith goes back as far as Sumerian/Babylonian days.
  13. lolosianipar
Hey, this is an interesting post! and I don't know that a lot of people out there actually know the story of women in Bible hahhaha

Anyway, I would say Mary, Jesus' Mom, she has an incredible character, faithful and gentle... plus she rarely complain hihihi...

but I like smart woman too, just like Ruth and Esther... both are very smart and sincere... when you got a good counsel, you'll make a good decision in the end...
    1. Jeunelle
@lolosianipar...Yup that's how I feel about it too. I don't believe a lot of people are aware of the small but very important contributions that women made in the bible.

Some changed the course of history and women back in those days weren't given much visible power yet they weilded power in their own way and did the best with what little they had in terms of power.

Ruth and Esther are great examples.
Esther later became a Queen and she was able to save her people from extinction
if she didn't have the courage and faced her own death by begging her King Ahasuerus who was not of the same culture as her to save her people and not kill them.

He listened to her and did not harm her people but if he was angered, you can bet she would have been killed along with her people, she risked a great deal and the lives and weight of her people rest on her shoulders.
    2. ionmuniz
Well, I think god chose Mary for the same reason he"chose" the hebrews; He wanted Jesus to be born in the midst of a population that was "His".
The "chick with a dumb father" was a daughter of Jefteh, and the story is really confusing, specially when you get to verse 39 of the chapter 11 of the book of Judges.
women should read the gospel of Luke, he gives the fair sex the importance of their role in the life of Jesus.
What about a new subject: your favorite man (Jesus is out) in the bible? I dig Paul and David.
    3. lolosianipar
      @Jeunelle
Hey, that's what I think about Esther too... nice thoughts!

well, some people think that women in Bible are simply silly and all, you know over ruled by Men... but I have different view from that, I mean each person lived for their own purpose and for a reason or a caused, and they're just fulfilling what their life's purpose - and I'm not talking religion here, but in general, aren't we all?
    4. Jeunelle
@ionmuniz...Yes the favorite man episode is coming up shortly too.

@lolosianipar....Some people rule with brute force and others rule quietly with grace and wisdom
  14. dannyvice
I'll have to go with Delilah. She always seemed remarkably seductive I think. Makes me wonder what her angle is.

Bathsheba must have been a sight. David ignored 100 concubines to watch her bathing.... Ended up putting his whole kingdom in turmoil over her.

Humm... choices... Have their email addresses by chance?

And if the Bible is a from a Patriarch point of view, it sure seems those Patriarchs were handled quite well by the matriarchs in question.
    1. Jeunelle
Delilah and Bathsheba are two seductive choices and I doubt that Bathsheba just so happen to be bathing on the roof top so that David could see her bathing naked, she was a married woman after all. Married to a husband who's death King David caused so that he could have her for himself. However whether their seduction was intentional, it is clear that these two men, Sampson and David fell for it.
  15. honeymoonapples
mary magdalene...wrote a post about her

A very interesting character in the bible who most don't know she was also an initiate of Isis acting within the tradition of the priestesses of Isis.

Actually, my favourite woman from the biblical times is Salome en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salome_Alexandra - a first and one and only Jewish regnant queen. Her impact was big and under her rule Judea was full of prosperity. Very interesting personality, marginally mentioned in the Bible.
    1. Jeunelle
Excellent example, thank you for participating.
  18. 1brncowco
The most interesting for me is Lilith. Why, because if I was to believe in the creation story- she is more probable.

Mary M is my favorite. I truly believe she was Christ's wife. She was his most beloved favorite.
Her gospel is about truth, spirituality, and enlightenment. She was the most Christ-like of them all.
    1. Jeunelle
Yes and apparantly the apostles clearly felt betrayed that Christ should have a favorite. Many times they displayed hostility towards her and doubted her when she came to them and told them that Christ her Lord has risen and that she saw him
      and spoke to him.

They tried to discredit her ever time which is what men do when they are clearly in opposition to women who they believe are threatening to them and their worldy power and male dominance. PATHETIC
  19. 1brncowco
That's the way Jesus warned about. He said to follow his brother James.

The Pauline doctrine destroyed much of Christ's true work. That's my opinion.
    1. Jeunelle
Yes pieces of the puzzle are either lost or hidden.
