It is because of their sexual preferences that they are hidden, not recognized or do they cause a scandal in the conservative catholic church? What about their vocation? Or is there any at all?...

Gays and lesbians have played a huge part in monastic life for many centuries.
Think about it: if you were gay and your only choices were to marry someone of the opposite sex and live a lie or become a priest, which would involve spending a lot of time with people of your own sex, and maybe even living in a monastery full of them (many of whom would be there for the same reason), with no pressure to act heterosexual, wouldn't the choice be obvious?
