On the eloquent advice of BC members, I have tried moving my travel blog to Wordpress - but I am not too impressed with it, it seems far clumsier to navigate than blogspot. I can't change the font size for love nor money and despite a couple of hours of trying I can't add the blogcatalogue link back properly (or any link for that matter).....I really need to invite Timethief round for a cuppa and some advice I know. I hesitate to add a link to such a pathetic attempt - but it is here www.4nomadic.wordpress.com - and open to scrutiny and suggestion. Help!

Wordpress is very good and better than blogspot in customisation. But better do that in self hosted domain. We can put our own theme etc.For inserting blogcatalog links you just need to edit your php from the theme editor.
You can check out my blog wordpress blog to see how is wordpress. www.puanthanh.ismywebs.com -
Like Treasureblog said, WP is infinitely better on your own domain... you have way more options and you can basically tweak it all you want. However, let's work with what you've got for now.
I'm not sure about the linkback, but to change the font size, you'll probably have to pick another theme. Go to "Design" and then "Themes" on your control panel, and just experiment until you find something readable.
(My blog's on its own domain, but using the WP platform: www.novanda.com) -
Both of your blogs look really good. But I fear I am in WAY too deep. No idea how to go about getting my own domain....no idea WHAT a php IS to edit it. Beginning to wonder whether all this is a good use of my time....I just want to WRITE goddam it. Is there someone I can pay a one off fee to, to set this whole thing going?

I am not hitting and running....but I do need to be away for a few hours at a meeting. I will be back this evening. Any thoughts on this, very welcome.

If I'm not mistaken you can purchase an account and get a domain with godaddy and get an add free blog attached to your domain.
Just go to www.godaddy.com and browse around...

If you have trouble with text size
Be sure you are in Visual mode not Code >
Under the words Add Media, you'll see a little box with a number of dots > click on that and it will display another bar of tools >
Where it says Paragraph > Click on the dropdown menu.
Make sure you save regularly, else it creates a problem sometimes -
I'm intending to move some of my blogs to wordpress too... soon actually. So, I've been reading up. Do have a look at this free Authority Black Book:
ViralURL.com/recommending/Authority-Black-Book
Page 18 onwards will help you deal with the installation of your Wordpress site. For updates on my progress, you may want to follow me on twitter. I'm new to some of these techie stuff, but after doing some research, I'm pretty enthusiastic =) So, we can certainly journey together =) -
I find myself in similar waters. My former collaborator pushed to move to WordPress, as she was knowledgeable in it, then quit, leaving me with no clue (or time) to sit around figuring out arcane upgrades and tools (still don't have remote posting working and cannot post from MSIE, for instance). I'd move back to Blogger in a heartbeat except enough was lost in translation to WP, I am concerned of the mayhem of a move back.
Yes, WP is prettier. But I have always been a content over cosmetics kind of guy.-
No, that's like saying I prefer a stick shift over an automatic transmission (which I do). I didn't say WordPress was pointless or worthless, but for people preferring content over cosmetics, it is pretty much a situation where you are binding yourself to an iterative redevelopment cycle (I am a former software engineer) where you must be constantly aware of the dangers of failing to upgrade to the latest version (Microsoft got rich with that strategy) and I'd rather focus on my writing, which is why I started blogging in the first case, then trying to win a social networking contest.
Let's face it, content is no longer king in the blogosphere...many blogs exist solely for the purpose of building a network, rather than expressing anything.
I'm a writer, not a screen-to-screen get-rich-quick salesman or a "friend collector". I've had web presence for over a decade, and been blogging for over three years. I just like my tools simple and not to be distracted by the need to upgrade to a version 16.2.4.3.15.2 before support for the version my material was originally posted on goes away or becomes unworkable because of upgrades that exist often just to make sure a new widget is possible (Anyone else here hate blogs that are more widget that content and that take forever to load because of it?).

Free hosted wordpress[dot]com bloggers cannot access their underlying files for their blog templates and edit them to change font size or for any other purpose. faq.wordpress.com/2005/09/27/edit-my-templates/ This is because all free hosted wordpress[dot]com bloggers are working on a multi-user blogging platform and if you could change your font size on your Chaotic Soul theme template, then every other blog in that theme would likewise be changed. There are three approaches you can choose from to change font size.
a. Replace theme you have now with one that has a larger font size. The features of the theme you have now have been reviewed here internetducttape.com/2006/11/07/wordpress-theme-review-chaotic-soul-tarski-...
b. Manually code in the font change on each blog post and page. faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/12/can-i-change-my-font-font-size/
c. Purchase a CSS upgrade for $15. per year and edit your css stylesheet only if get someone else to do it for you. Note that this upgrade is not recommended to those who do not have css editing experience and there is no staff support for learning css. faq.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/about-the-custom-css-upgrade/ -
I can't elaborate I'm heading back to work but there isn't one of my blogs which falls into a category where I'd prefer to bind myself to a iterative development cycle, nor am I or have I ever been more interested in networking, though I am glad I have a readership at this point in time.
I prefer WP self hosted for the aesthetics, and as a non technical non developer who never knew a thing about upgrading installations I find it takes very little to install new edition by hand o r maintain.
Lorelle on wordpress is an excellent source as is Time thief. It takes a few minutes here and there for either the free service a little more for the self hosted, but all well worth it.
