WP Latest 2.8.6 is available.
Due to Wordpress popularity of usage, hackers robot search for wordpress blog and how they find it is throught the footer credit link "Powered by "Wordpress" it is suggested to remove this link and also the Wordpress version tag in the header.php

I updated but I find it easier and probably safer to just not allow user sign up. I shut that functionality off some time ago as so much of their security issues seem to stem from somewhere in there. Not that I have a clue about the inner guts of WordPress though.-
Yes If you don't send newsletter or not in group blogging. Shutting down registration is best.
