i'm thinking of going 3 column soon. main one for content, one for links, blogroll, categories etc and the other for ads and widgets. just need to make some time for the upgrade

Ive found three columns is easier for me, I have tried other templates but nothing ever seems to stay

I use 3 column fluid on two of my blogs and really like it. I fancy a new theme for Blog-Op but it's hard, there's so many to choose from.... Definitely sticking with 3 though.

I'm working on another blog and I opt to try WP, problem is I'm just not familiar with WP...do I need to pay so that I could edit my blog template - for example change the background colour and the header pictures? Does it work that way? Enlighten me please...

Most of the templates allow you to change colours and layout e.t.c. if you have a look at the wp theme site themes.wordpress.net/ there is hundreds to choose from, just watch out for the ones that try have sponsored ads that you have to keep.

That is interesting...I may have to think about using wordpress for my chef's blog...as I'm in school now for it...and think it might be a really good place to start posting some of my recipes.

I started out with a three-column one, I suppose just because that's what it seemed like a blog should look. And when I made my own theme a few weeks later I kept the three-column layout, with internal links on the left, main content in the middle, and external links on the right. I'm pretty satisfied with my theme now; it works with both the homepage and the blog parts of my site. It's not bad for Gallery2 photo albums, either. I still need to tweak that part a little, though.

three columns if you want to monetize
ads after your blog is up and running for a couple months
brian gardner's themes are my favorite
    medium header

Three column. I'm using 3cSEO WP theme right now and it's been easy to modify. It's an older theme, but I like it. Works well for my purposes.

My header pic of a couple of wineries in Napa Valley is large so I'm considering changing it. Just have to find the time to browse through my own digital pics and choose another one.

Well count this comment from one who is fairly new to wordpress. I like the ones by Sadish Bala, that can be customized. If I can't make my own image for the header than I won't use it. I still have SO much to learn though.
