Would you buy a Theme?
What's your preferred free theme?
Have ever used the Worpress Themes generators?
Thanks

Don't buy a theme. Not worth it.
Chris Pearson does excellent crisp clean themes for WP.
I started out using several themes with WP. I ended up teaching myself web dev and developing my blog from scratch. I created my own theme because it was easier in the long run.
The hardest part of doing your own blog is learning a bit of php and doing the comments part of blog. Having said that just use function get_comments and change a bit of css.
I'm not plugging my blog, but check it out.

It took me 6 weeks to build from scratch and I knew nothing about web design or blogging beforehand.
So in answer to your question, don't buy any themes, as there are plenty of excellent freebies out there. -
After a lot of research, I just paid for the Revolution Magazine theme for a site that I am in the process of developing (it is not yet live, so you can't view it yet). I am glad that I did because of the ease of customizing the code and the amount of available support has been wonderful. I might switch my current sites over to the category page format of it at some point, since that looks like a standard blog and it is a nice theme.
With that said, unless you need something as specialized as a magazine or news type of theme, I see no reason to pay for one. There are many decent WP blog templates out there that are available for free.
As for the generators, I suggest to stay clear of them. The main generator of WP themes that I know of creates very messy code and does not work as well as it should. I tried it and ditched it quite quickly. Find a pre-made theme with good clean code and then tweak it from there. You will be better off in the long run because the code will be easier to deal with and the site will likely perform better with clean code. -
I do love that Revolution theme. I'd pay ofr it if I had a magazine tyep blog.
There are option though tons of them for those who don't want to pay though it does pay to learn a little you will learn soon enough how to mess with the back end of your blog.
