Wordpress themes and some shameless promotion (help me out, BC!)

First comes the shameless promotion: I'd love some help with a contest I'm entered in to win a new custom Wordpress theme. Remember - a vote for Blog Badly is a vote for... uh... something positive?
Anywho, if you guys would vote for Blog Badly here in the polls: alphablogdesigns.com/2008/04/04/wordpress-custom-theme-competition-voting/
it would be MUCH appreciated.

But to give this topic some purpose (I hate just shamelessly promoting, and this is the worst kind - but I really, REALLY want that theme. Badly.)

How important is a theme in a blog and where are some good free theme resources?
