I keep coming back to this because the media does not want to let me forget about Gov. Sarah Palin.Good looks, bubbly personality she was a media darling .She ran for the vice president of the U.S. under major media coverage that is only afforded to high level politicians and the constant debate about her dealings as Governor and her daughter becoming pregnant kept many of us glued to the T.V.I like Gov. Palin mainly because she was a star basketball player in high school which I know is not the best of reasons, could she have gotten her act together,I think so ,she would have toughed it out I can see that in her character now. What do you think,Do you feel she would have made a good vice president?

No, unfortunately I do NOT think she would have made a good vice-president.

I believe she does not know how to NOT ABUSE her position of authority - and being VICE PRESIDENT would have allowed her much more free range for that...

You NEED to read TROOPERGATE information on Sarah Palin - and you need to follow it.

    I KNOW Mike Wooten Personally.

I know the techniques Palin used to go after him when her sister got divorced from him.

I watched her singlehandedly try to destroy something based on her own personal feelings --- USING her position of authority to destroy someone's life.

That - to me - is not a good politician - and I'm astounded the US media was not made aware of it.

It's sad when her own State actively does not appreciate everything she does.

    Other than that - YEAH - she's cute - yeah, she's bubbly - yeah she's vicious and a snake and a half.

Is she a good politician? Maybe.

But because she allows PERSONAL issues to cloud her politics - then I think she is worthless.

Because she goes after PERSONAL issues with an attack dog ferocity - I think she is the worst possible choice for being president.

Mayor maybe - but beyond that - she's just a pretty face.

I heard some stories about "trooper gate" and it seemed to me that they were afraid for their safety because of the trooper and she wanted Wooten to punish him for his acts but Wooten did not pull the trigger on him.
    2. 7434be
So how do you know wooten
  2. 7434be
I think she would have been great
    1. SweetViolet
Because she is cute and has a bubbly personality? Since when are those legitimate qualifications for being the VP...and possibly the president?

The woman has no ethics, is vindictive, and dumber than a box of rocks. In what way is she qualified for such an office? And why isn't this posted in the political discussion board??
    2. Epicharis
I think he's confusing 'Vice President of America' with 'Miss America'...
  3. 7434be
I did not see that option , anyway I said cute and bubbly because the media was playing on her looks
    1. SweetViolet
She has not been an upstanding forthright governor, she has abused her authority and power, she's ignorant, ill-bred and ill-mannered, she believes that whatever she wants she is entitled to have or force on others...which of these are part of the "great VP" compendium of qualities.

I notice you don't cite any qualifications she might have...what makes you think she would be a good VP?
  4. 7434be
She seems to be a winner,Yes despite all of her other faults she just seems to have a cionfidence about her,I feel she would probably have turned the whitehouse into a circus much like Clinton but despite all of her critics she has that little spark you can not ignore.Hows Cape Town.
Do you really wear that jewelry on your forehead?
  5. SweetViolet
It's not jewellery, that is a bindi, also known as a "dot." In the case of my avatar photo, it is a "fancy dot," intended for wearing on special occasions or when dressing up. The rest of the time I tend to wear a single red dot about 4mm in diameter.

Cape Town is starting to cool off...autumn is finally upon us and some respite from the recent heat.

Nothing you have said so far about Palin qualifies her for an office like that of the President of the US. Yes, I know she ran for VP, but McCain probably would not survive his first term (it's a pretty stressful job, especially for an old man with health problems), which would have catapulted her into the hotseat. Bush was a disaster...Palin would have been an unmitigated disaster.

Name some REAL qualifications she has...a nebulous "little spark" hardly qualifies her to go toe-to-toe with some of the more difficult...and misogynistic...heads of state you know. She's a loose cannon and an embarrassment to American politics. I blogged about her back before the election...America dodged a bullet when it kept her out of DC.

And in case you don't already know, I am an American.
    1. 7434be
I like your jewelry , Palins not that bad is she
  6. 7434be
So I wonder why she keeps complaining about the media not giving her a fair deal.Do not get me wrong I was just thinking WHAT IF? Because if McCain chooses her 2 months earlier that maybe enough time to clear out those sjeletons.Do Indian women resent you when you wear the dot? Are you Hindu?
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
She's complaining about the media, but think who she's complaining TO? THE MEDIA. She's using them to keep in the minds of the people.

So she's coming up with various little injustices to discuss, to remain in the spotlight while she gears up for potentially running in 2012.

      That's all.
    2. SweetViolet
Why would Indian women resent me for wearing a dot? I also wear a red string on my right wrist and the only time I take my thali off is when I bathe. My husband is Hindu and I respect his traditions, I do not ascribe to any religion for myself.

"I heard some stories about "trooper gate" and it seemed to me that they were afraid for their safety because of the trooper and she wanted Wooten to punish him for his acts but Wooten did not pull the trigger on him."

    Uhmm.

    NO.

You need to read the whole scandal.

As Violet said - Alaskans feel she is an embarrassment.

Like I said - I know Wooten Personally.

He predicted PRIOR to her winning her current seat election - that IF she WON - he would lose his job.

    AND she did win.

And she used EVERY single resource she had to try and destroy HIM - and HIM alone --- UP TO AND INCLUDING FIRING the ALASKA STATE TROOPER'S TOP GUY - because he refused to fire Wooten.

Truly - if you want to know about her - read up on TrooperGate.

She even used the STATE WEBPAGE to try and ridicule him - to destroy his life.

If you want just a PRETTY president - then, sure she'd have been a great choice.

I would NEVER want a Vindictive, Vicious, Idiotic person to be my president.

And trust me - she would end up becoming president.

She was put into that position merely because she was a PRETTY WOMAN that everyone could identify with as a Minority tag - because the OBAMA campaign had such a significant Minority tag.

Truly - Main Discussion is not the place for political discussion.

If you like Palin - good deal - that's your choice.

But as a person who has been asked a question - I might counter with --- DO YOU TRULY KNOW THE FACTS?

Have you truly sat down and read ALL of the documents involved in her current Political position?

And have you observed how Alaskans like her job that she has done so far?
    1. 7434be
So why does she keep getting re-elected?
    2. csiunatc
      Good point 74

Let's not forget that Wooten admitted to tazering a kid for "educational" purposes, have been drunk on duty and broke the hunting laws.

Forget the rest, thats not the kind that you want protecting the public. IF he on top of that threathened people, thats just icing.
    3. xmarks
      When was she re-elected?
    4. melindaville
Exactly--she is in her first term. DOH!
  8. beinki
    She has my vote.
    1. 7434be
Nice nose buddy, like the mustache, she gets your vote huh
  9. wagerwitch
Because the mass majority of Americans are like you:

Dang She's Cute - wow she seems to be really good - If she was picked by the GOP then she "MUST" be perfect. Wow Alaska - she'll help control the pipeline.

    CHECK VOTE

    Most Americans are sheep.

Most Americans do NOT take the time to research the candidate that they are considering voting for.

Most Americans will Vote for BEAUTY over Competency

Tell me --- IF SHE WAS FAT and had a MOLE on her face - would you still vote for her?

I mean - seriously if she looked like Rosie O'Donnell or Janet Reno - would ya vote for her?

    Sigh.
  10. wagerwitch
    Oh --- and re-elected?

She's only been in the office she's in now for part of ONE term.

SHE is SO NEW at this that it's amazing.
    1. 7434be
This son of a gun broke up with her all ready.I think this is part of the reason they are pulling on my heart strings.Like that actor said a good disney movie.

      sarah palins daughter
    2. Epicharis
Well that's always a good reason to elect someone to the Vice-Presidency!
  11. ScreamBucket
We are in the most complex economic quagmire in the history of mankind. It would have killed McCain -seriously.

Harvard constitutional professor vs a snowmobile mechanic. What are Americans thinking. It blows my mind.

I think it was yale good morning
    2. 7434be
We are in trouble, you can say that again
    3. melindaville
No, it was not Yale. Yale produced the monkey-faced liar who occupied the presidency before Obama. Obama went to Harvard and was the president of the Harvard Law Review.

You need to read more before you vote. People like you scare the sh*t out of me.

Voting for people because they are 'cute and bubbly' Spare me.
  12. 7434be
Can anyone tell me what looks like a patch of some sort is on Palins hand
  13. 7434be
Oh I get it Thrift, she is pandering to the media ,she is a politician
  14. wagerwitch
    Good point 74

"Let's not forget that Wooten admitted to tazering a kid for "educational" purposes, have been drunk on duty and broke the hunting laws.

Forget the rest, thats not the kind that you want protecting the public. IF he on top of that threathened people, thats just icing."

You fail to notice that the kid he Tazered was his family. They were playing around and Wooten and the teenager were doing "boy" things - the kid ased some questions - asked the typical CURIOUS teen questions - Wooten Tazered himself lightly - and LIGHTLY tazered the kid just to show the kid.

We aren't talking the FULL BLOWN EXPERIENCE - more like a mini shock - just to show the kid what it was.. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HARM done And the kid thought it was totally "cool".

Being drunk on duty - consisted of --- Having had 3 beers - and then being told to come out for an emergency call - after notifying that he had some beers - supervisor demanded he still respond.

And he broke hunting laws ---- HMMMMMM... what? He fished one day without his fishing license in his possession?

I swear - people who talk without having the CITEs right there - about people's LIVES that they know NOTHING about - bother me.

Wooten isn't perfect. No one is.

But she crucified him ONLY because she wanted her sister to have full custody ---- of THEIR kids.

AND --- further more - SHE LIED.

(She later she admits she may have mistakenly said some things - it's in print you can go find it.)

So - now you're telling me that it's ok for someone to USE their power in politics for personal gain?

    Hmmmmmmm.....

Oh --- NO ONE BOTHERED TO ANSWER MY QUESTION.

    If she was FAT

    IF SHE WAS UGLY

Would you still feel the same about her and her politics?

    I THINK NOT.

I can't and won't disclose how I know Wooten. But suffice it to say, he's a really nice guy. And he's about 6'2 and BIG BIG BIG... Bigger around than most Doorways and gentle as a lamb.

Let's also say that Palin FIRED the Commissioner of the Troopers -----SIMPLY BECAUSE---- he would not FIRE Wooten on the spot - at her request - AFTER she FORCED him to do a complete investigation on him.

His life was turned upside down.

If he had spit on the sidewalk in 1984 - they would have uncovered it and made it into a crime.

I want no part of anyone who can wield power - and acts like Hitler.

I know I'm in the minority here but I like Sarah Palin. I actually got the chance to meet her once and I can honestly say, there is much more to her than the media gave her credit for. She isn't an ivy-league genius but she has common sense and she is very knowledable about how to effectively lead.

Do I think she would have been a good vice president if elected? Umm. Honestly no. I don't think that she is ready yet. Do I think she could be someday? Yes, I do. If she works hard at boning up on her public speaking skills and gets a little more experience in the national political arena, I think she is golden.

But first she would have to repair her tarnished "just a pretty face" image.

Only time will tell I guess.
    1. 7434be
      Yes It will take time
    2. 7434be
      sounds good hussy
  16. satijournal
    She's a right-wing nut-job, so no, I don't think she would have made a good VP.
    1. 7434be
I think she is a bit of a nut job, just keeping it under cover
  17. salomey5
Are you talking about the woman who found the time to go on SNL, but not Meet the Press during the presidential campaign?

I think she would have been great as a VP... for late-night comedy shows. For America, probably not so much.

To her credit though, she could have given a serious hand to the struggling newspaper industry, given that she claimed she reads "everything and anything that's being put in front of her".
    Hopefully, she still does.

And now that I think of it, optometrists could also benefit from her being in the spotlight; she made wearing glasses cool and sexy!
Because of her, I went to pass an eye exam, and I'm getting funky new frames which will hopefully make me too look like a naughty librarian.
    1. 7434be
      Naughty Librarian , thats rich
    2. 7434be
Yeah she could have helped news papers , she majored in journalism
    3. 7434be
      Yes that women
  18. ariwat
No. No, no, no, no, and no. Helping newspapers? When asked point-blank what newspapers she read, she could not name ONE! NOT ONE! I mean, make something up! Or ... something! Dang.
    1. 7434be
She may have had a brain freeze , but she majored in journalism
    2. ariwat
But could America afford her to have a brain freeze while in office?
  19. 7434be
No they would not , and they could not afford her to have an affair with Mccain either www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/why-is-it-ok-for-women-to-rob-the-cradle
  20. melindaville
She was hardly the media's 'darling'--they exposed her for the poser she was: a pretty airhead who basically was clueless about politics outside of her own very narrow realm.

And to answer your question? NO! She would have been horrible. Obama's on the right track.
    1. 7434be
Hi how are you , I guess the media fooled me , I was really starting to believe she knew something, should have known from the meteoric rise
    2. melindaville
      I'm doing well--how are you?

Yes, the meteoric rise was one clue--but so were her completely clueless answers to Katie Couric's questions!
    3. Agit8r
her base couldn't tell she was an idiot
  21. LynneaUrania
If Sarah Palin became president, then it would have been time to emigrate.
    1. 7434be
      Vice President?
    2. LynneaUrania
If she became VP, chances are with an aging President McCain, she would have become President in a short while.

As she told a child, she said that the VP runs the Senate. Oh puhleeze!
  22. Stillthinking
Palin went to four different colleges over six years and finally managed to graduate from the University of Idaho. She majored in journalism with an emphasis on broadcast journalism. In other words, she majored in Communications: otherwise known as "the dumb jock and party girl major."

Palin is an embarrassment to the Republican party. The RNC should have done more to support a viable female candidate like Elizabeth Dole who graduated top of her class from Duke, who holds a Harvard law degree, two masters degrees from Harvard, over 50 honorable doctorates, served under 5 presidential administrations, was head of the American Red Cross, and was a US senator. Elizabeth Dole should have been the Republican vice-presidential candidate not Palin.

Palin can't hold a candle to men like Barack Obama who earned his Bachelors from Columbia University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law and was a professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago.

I firmly believe that Elizabeth Dole was betrayed by the RNC during the primaries and was cheated out of a presidential run.
    1. ariwat
And this goes to show, in Sarah Palin's case, that education should've been everything. But - alas - it wasn't.
    2. 7434be
so she was in the running dole
    3. Stillthinking
It just goes to show how badly the RNC managed the presidential campaign when they overlook someone like Elizabeth Dole (who is highly qualified, well-spoken, well-educated and universally respected by women of both political parties) for an empty headed novice.

Of course, Elizabeth Dole also straddled the line between moderate and conservative wings of the Republican party.

I don't think I would have voted for Elizabeth Dole, but I found the RNC's treatment of her insulting.
    4. melindaville
      Bravo, ST--bravo on all counts!
    5. Shiley
Wow, can't stand Sarah Palin she gives broadcast journalists a bad name (which was my major and I can't stand partying). More like a bubble gum popping old Britney Spears ya know ( in my best nasal tone.)
    6. xmarks
The RNC is currently caving to the religious conservatives. Anti-abortion is more important that intelligence. Blind devotion to nutty ministers is more importnat than ability.
    7. Agit8r
I agree. I thought that dole would have been a better choice also.

I might have even been able to vote for such a ticket
  23. FredSr2009
Yes, I believe anyone that has a super strong survival instinct can be trusted with our future. No one that will not protect the unborn and future generations can have a strong sense for the survival of our human species. And no amount of intellectual reasoning will disprove that fact.
    1. Stillthinking
It doesn't change the fact that Palin is woefully unqualified and uneducated. There are plenty of female conservatives that are much more qualified, educated and well spoken than Palin

Elizabeth Dole is also pro-life and if you look at my above comment, would have been an amazing candidate for vice-president and highly qualified to take over the office president in the event of the death of the president.

Single issue voters are so narrow minded. There is more to being president than abortion. We just had eight years of a pro-life president and all he did was make teen pregnancy rates rise and close off funding for scientific research and women's health issues.

Oh, and for a president who supposedly valued life so much, he sent thousands of our troops to die in Iraq while enriching his campaign contributors. And let's also not forget, he let Wall Street run amok and created this recession.
    2. Agit8r
Joseph Stalin had a good survival instict....
    3. xmarks
We are more likely to be doomed by over population than under population. Someone with true survivor instinct would realize that we can not go on damaging the world and breeding like rats and not suffer the consequences.
  24. lovesome1
i hear shes a great hunter...i'm not sure about president...politics...

    NO
she doesnt know anything about anything relating to politics
no tact to interact with world leader
    no intellectual curiosity
she also is not gracious. president obama defended her and her family numerous times, and she never once acknowledged that
she doesnt possess the qualities of a successful leader and she also isnt trustworthy

The rulers of territories and congregations need us a lot more than we need them.
    1. 7434be
      Interesting wording,are you American,territory?
  28. jefftompkins71
No. It was clear to most people from the start that she was unqualified and I see no reason why that opinion should not endure.

Her selection was purely a stunt, one that failed miserably.
    1. xmarks
I don't know if anyone could have pulled out a RNC victory. Her stunt got the bible voters out. It didn't seem to be enough for the non-presidential offices but I wonder if RNC would have lost more congressional seats without Palin.
  29. reformedliberal
Having met Sarah Palin on only three occasions, twice in Alaska and then once in Pennsylvania, I'd like to take issue with the individuals who have called her an "idiot." Each time I've interacted with her, I've received no other impression than that she is, quite frankly, a brilliant and charismatic woman. I understand that my foundation for this is only on menial interactions, but I believe one can determine whether someone is mentally brain-dead from only a few encounters. She is a terrible communicator, in that she doesn't seem to have any awareness of proper sentence syntax, but she isn't stupid.

Furthermore, she has served, thus far, as an accomplished public servant in Alaska. She has fought against government corruption and excess, helped lay the foundation for a pipeline which would free up massive reserves of oil and restored confidence in the Alaskan people that their government was once again working for them.

I am perplexed at those individuals who claim that she is embarrassing and shameful for Alaskans. I'm not being snide, I actually want to know: how many of you live in Alaska? I don't, but I travel there frequently, and I have never gotten any impression other than that they have great respect and admiration for her. However, it is true that her approval ratings have dropped considerably since her stint on the presidential campaign trail.

As for those who claim that most Americans recognized her as "unqualified" for the executive office: you're right. However, the American people are a forgiving one, and if the economy doesn't get better, they won't want another individual who is looking down his or her respective nose at them. They'll want someone who actually understands what it's like to live as an average person in America. Sarah Palin is one of the few major politicians that I know of who has ever held a real job. Barack Obama has not. Nancy Pelosi has not. Harry Reid has not. Joe Biden has not. All of these people are career politicians, which America has begun to have a strong distaste for. Furthermore, many in the American public were outraged at the sexist and class-based attacks that Gov. Palin unfairly endured. Because she didn't receive an Ivy League education, she somehow wasn't 'intellectual' enough for those in the elite ruling class.
    1. SweetViolet
She has demonstrated, on multiple occasions, that she has no compunctions against using her authority, power and position to further her personal ends. That, all by itself, is sufficient to PERMANENTLY render her as unfit for public service.
    2. reformedliberal
I totally agree with you. I'm simply tired of individuals who claim that she is "stupid," while they themselves don't seem able to construct complete sentences.
    3. xmarks
I disagree with the idea that I want someone who "actually understands what it is like to live as an average Americam" over someone who is exceptionally intelligent. While many people agree with your position, I would rather the president be smarter than me to solve the problems the country has. My barber, wife and bartender can understand me.
    4. SweetViolet
@reformedliberal:"I'm simply tired of individuals who claim that she is "stupid," while they themselves don't seem able to construct complete sentences."

I am not only capable of constructing complete sentences, I can create deeply complex sentences to express equally complex thought. And I think she's stupid. That, or criminally arrogant...maybe both.
    5. wagerwitch
      I AM an Alaskan...

I don't think she's stupid at all. No one can be stupid and climb as high as she has, as fast as she has.

However, I know for a fact that she is a LIAR - and has used her position(s) of political authority for PERSONAL VENDETTA.

This renders her as NOT appropriate material for Presidency, Vice P - or even her current newly elected position as GOV...

My opinion is based on fact, knowledge of Palin - and of the TrooperGate situation from close knowledge and familiarity with the players involved.

Based on TrooperGate alone, Palin is UNFIT to be anything other than a well-dressed (Arctic Cat Wearing) Soccer Mom.

      These are "THIS ALASKAN'S" opinions.
    6. Stillthinking
Barack Obama is not a career politician.

He was a professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago and spent several years as a community organizer on Chicago's South Side. For those of you unaware of Chicago neighborhoods, Chicago's South Side was (and continues to be in certain pockets) one of the poorest and most dangerous areas in the US. Barack Obama worked on the South Side as an advocate for the poor promoting many of the same ideas he advocates now: education and community responsibility.

President Obama is an entirely self-made man who went to Columbia and Harvard based on his hard work and brilliance. His family did not have any money. He doesn't come from a political family like the Bushes.

I can't stand it when people lob elitist charges against someone because he is intelligent and accomplished.

Obama knows what true poverty is like and what working class faces actually are.

The idea that he is an elitist that looks down his nose is garbage.
  30. ShanLeeCook
She's one of the absolute dumbest politicians in American history. Even dumber than Bush.
  31. reformedliberal
@xmarks: We've only had two exceptionally intelligent presidents - Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. Barack Obama does possess intellectual curiosity, but we have next to no evidence that he has any remarkable intellectual gifts.

@SweetViolet - I was not targeting you specifically, as I'm sure you were aware. Many of the individuals who have attacked Sarah Palin, however, have done so because of the material that has been fed to them by many in the media. If you arrive at the conclusion based on independent thought, as no doubt you have, then I can accept your analysis, even if I disagree. But people who say, "Palin's a moron 'cause she doesn't know about the Bush doctrine and blahblahblah" are simply repetitive drones. I also concur with you that she is criminally arrogant.
    1. Stillthinking
Have you read his memoirs? Have you seen him debate? Do you know he went to Columbia and graduated top of his class and then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law and was President of the Harvard Law Review?
    2. 7434be
So you like Palin I see
  32. wagerwitch
@xmarks: We've only had two exceptionally intelligent presidents - Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. Barack Obama does possess intellectual curiosity, but we have next to no evidence that he has any remarkable intellectual gifts.

    Eh?

    Hmmmmm...

    Lessee...

Did we miss George Washington, Thomas Jefferson.... etc. Ad Infinitum (in re: presidents prior to 1965?)

Hmmm... Because I understand that FDR was brilliant.

I don't think she's a Moron - I think she's a liar and a drama queen. I think she uses her public power for personal reasons, I think she uses State Money to fund her own private, personal life.

I think she is smoke and mirrors and 8th grade Girly Drama.

    I don't think she's stupid.

But she is Arrogant and doesn't know what she speaketh of at times.
    1. reformedliberal
My apologies, I was speaking about presidents of the modern era. I should have been clear.

And I agree with you that she is very much a drama queen; she is a political diva in a time when we need serious policy wonks.

reformedliberal: I should have said someone exceptional vs. exceptional intelligence. Einstein wouldn't have made a great president. There is evidence to suggest that Obama is quite bright, i.e. graduating harvard. He doesn't need to be able to write E=MC2 but has to know enough to understand what he needs to know. Palin doesn't seem to have the same knowledge.
