I make little to no money using some of the affiliates that I have now. I was playing with the idea of adding adult web site reviews and offering an adult membership section.

Would you put adult content on your site to gain income?

Or would you visit a site with adult content along side normal content?

(feel free to answer one or both, and share any experiences you might have with such site)

My (curently non adult) site can be viewed at nerdious.com/

I have yet to get a domain name of my own however I wanted my blog to have maximum possible readership so made a decision not to include any adult content. Have given this idea a thought. Incase you want to go in for adult content my suggestion would be to go all out and just have adult content on the blog.
    1. benspak
I'm intrigued though.. I wonder if I include say weekly reviews of sites, or say ease in "hot girls of the week" (non nude) how readers would respond. I know I would lose some readers but to be honest but how would you personally feel if you came across a site with good tech tips, and nude women?
    2. Norski
I've wondered if others had my approach.

"I wanted my blog to have maximum possible readership..."

The conventional wisdom is that sex-saturated content=lots of hits. On the other hand, advertisers for the most part stopped putting hot girls in bikinis in their ads when someone did a bit of research. They found out that the guys seeing the ads could remember the young woman's appearance in exquisite detail - and sometimes remembered what sort of product was being advertised.

It sounds like you're going for an audience whose members have a somewhat more diverse and mature set of interests.
    3. benspak
@Norski "It sounds like you're going for an audience whose members have a somewhat more diverse and mature set of interests."

Indeed. I'm interested in aiming for that. More so making the current content another reason for readers to stay on the site. You make a valid point "could remember the young woman's appearance in exquisite detail.. sometimes remembered the product"

Though I think it sits differently when the women are the thing that draws attention and in a sense are the "product". (I didn't mean the preceding to be sexist in any way, I just couldn't think of a more articulate way to convey my point)

I suppose I should have worded my original question "would you visit an adult site and read other content they have? About Tech, mods, video games, humor, ect" lol
    4. Norski
      benspak,

" 'would you visit an adult site and read other content they have? About Tech, mods, video games, humor, ect' lol"

Yep - framing the question well is a key to getting meaningful answers.
    5. brunosimoes
@benspak "... tech tips, and nude women?" tech tips + nude womens is the perfect combo, if "nude womens" is more like "very hot nude womens"
  2. MadMadMargo
I'm an adult. I write as an adult. Doesn't that make it adult content?
    1. Norski
In this context, using American English, not hardly. "Adult" entertainment, for example, is narrowly focused on a few aspects of human sexuality.

I think I know what you mean, though.
    2. MadMadMargo
Not to confuse "adult" with "offensive", I do include posts that are for adult reading.
    3. Norski
      MadMadMargo,

"Adult" and "mature" are terms that have taken a beating in the last few decades. So has "sophisticated."

I write almost exclusively for adults, or pre-adults with moderately hypertrophied language skills and unusually advanced interests. But I don't write stuff with titles like "Radioactive Teenage Zombie Nurses" or "The Flaming Passion of Lance Dirkthorn."

("Radioactive Teenage Zombie Nurses" - that almost sounds interesting, in a bad-B-movie, tasteless sort of way.)
    4. armywife65
      [madmadmargo]....lol very funny point there
  3. Norski
The way I think you mean it, no: I wouldn't put 'adult' content in one of my blogs. Not in addition to what I do now, and not gain income.

On the other hand, most of my blogs are 'adult,' in the sense that they're intended to appeal to someone who is at least 18. And, I've been known to include 'adult' themes, like "Playboy Cover Didn't Play With Mary: Allegedly" ( catholiccitizenamerica.blogspot.com/2008/12/playboy-cover-didnt-play-with-m... ) (December 15, 2008).

But I'm pretty sure that's not what you mean by 'adult content.'

As for 'why,' it has to do with my views of pornography, the human mind, and the GIGO principle.
    1. benspak
Thank you for your opinion : )
    2. Norski
My pleasure. You've raised some interesting points here.
  4. dratiffarid
    I'll never put adult content!
Mine is a health blog. There's no place for "adult" content - but I'm planning of writing a few articles on sex etc... Just from a health point of view.
    1. benspak
Fair enough, I wrote about the Anterior Fornix Erogenous Zone - A-spot for short, that you might be interested in. nerdious.com/find-the-a-spot-for-great-sex-beyond-the-g-spot/
  5. Norski
    benspak,

Fact is, I'm not above 'adult content' - in a way. For example, I used "sara palin hot photos" in a post title. ( anotherwaronterrorblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/sarah-palin-hot-photos-and-amer... ) Another time I used "Sarah Palin AKA 'Caribou Barbie' - News, Politics, and Cheesecake" as the title of a post. ( anotherwaronterrorblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/sarah-palin-aka-caribou-barbie-... )

Both times, I got a remarkable number of hits for those posts. Particularly the 'hot photos' one. I didn't notice a parallel spike in revenue, though. That may be because the blog's topic isn't women wearing odd outfits doing ridiculous things - and so the advertising isn't, by and large, focused on 'hot photos.'

Oddly, my rather bland, seldom-updated, blog on outdoor grilling is one of my biggest sources of revenue, on a profit-per-hit basis ( easygriller.blogspot.com/ ).

    Go figure.
    1. benspak
Well damn I need to start blogging about grilling lol Roughly how much do you make a month?
    2. Norski
      benspak,

I'm a stickler for following contracts, so I can't give you a dollar amount for my AdSense revenue. However, I think I'm on safe ground if I say that the response rate is approximately what I'd expect from a reasonably successful direct mail ('junk mail' when it's botched) piece.

At present, it won't make me rich: but over time it's a reliable source of revenue.
  6. Jhangora
how would you personally feel if you came across a site with good tech tips, and nude women?

I like both so it would be a great combination for me.
I'd say if it's soft-core give it a try.As I said before try to attract the maximum possible # of people to ur blog so won't be a bad idea to feature some hunks too for the ladies.

Personalization is important in the success of an individual blog. A personal blogger can't compete with multi-member corporate blogs as far as the volume and timing of the content is concerned, so speak ur mind and once u've added some nice beauties to the blog send me a ping and I'll visit ur blog.

    Mine is jhangora.blogspot.com
    1. benspak
Hmm you just gave me a great idea. Introduce some softcore content for free along with the existing content, and then charge for a separate hardcore section. Segregate the two and then that way I can attract a wider reader base while not alienating my original readers too much.

You're 100% correct people connect with the writter when it comes to personal blogging. One thing I need to keep in mind. I'll be sure to hit you up when I add some beautiful women to the site.
  7. wherethehellwasi
    Jeez, no.

Not that I'm above it, mind you. Or that my site, as a literary vehicle, would somehow be tarnished by it. I do plenty enough tarnishing as it is.

But if I had adult content on my blog, I'd never leave the editor. How the hell would I get anything done?
  8. acousticguitarist
well not at my acoustic guitar blogs,

as Leo Kottke says"porn just gets weirder and weirder"
    1. benspak
lol someone could have a fetish for that. Read my post nerdious.com/10-really-weird-fetishes/ that has weird fetishes like nylon jackets and Hands on Her Hips.
  9. benspak
Seems like destructoid.com has done a decent job of combining video game girls and nudity. www.destructoid.com/nerdcore-6-guns-guitars-girls-oh-my-update--29388.phtml
  10. Anok
My blog is not monetized, nor does it have anything to do with pornographic or sexually explicit ideas - so...no, I wouldn't.
  11. henchmanmike
Depends on how you go about it. It is a saturated market but a saturated market that never gets sick of it. So, it's almost a win situation. But again, better go at it in a good way. Know how far you want to go [just nude, hardcore pics, etc] and play with that envelope. you know? Just make the dame thing viewable I guess.
    1. benspak
lol I think tasteful nudes would be ok, anything hardcore might put alot of people off. Thanks for the advise ^_^
  12. lordiwanttobewhole
No...it wouldn't have a place on my blog.
  13. robinj
people have been using sex to sell since the beginning of time nothing new there....what would be a new concept though is for it to be treated with a little respect and honored as something which can be sensual rather than sexual sacred rather than sordid and more concerned with the soul than the ego
    1. benspak
There are actually several great sites out there that do just that, if you're interested in the URLs let me know.
  14. NatetheGrate
No, I wouldn't add adult content (meaning sexual exploitation, I presume) to my blog, Views from the Left Coast (viewsfromtheleftcoast.blogspot.com), which is about national and international politics. Of course, it turns out that politics is adult content, because young people do not appear to be interested in or knowledgeable about the subject!
  15. sterndal
maybe not. my visitors are friends and family lol and some strangers.
    1. benspak
lol yeah that would be a bit awkward
  16. armywife65
did ya'll notice that not many women have comments on this discussion? I, a woman, says. If it makes the money....Get some nudie booty on that blog, and bring in the dough....lol..
  17. MrCheeseburger
    What kind of adult content?
  18. siralmo
    yes, please tell??
  19. MrCheeseburger
    We would like to know!
    1. benspak
lol I'm not exactly sure I suppose I'd start with softcore, and then maybe work to fully nude, tasteful erotica like www.met-art.com/

What would you prefer? Babes in bikinis, or fully nude? Keep in mind I'd like some people to read other things I post and not just come there for the women.
    2. MrCheeseburger
If you call it art, you can get away with anything!
  20. TZY
Hmm, well, not for the moment. But if something interesting comes up, then it's possible.
    1. benspak
What do you mean by "interesting"? You would be open to the idea of a site that provides normal articles and adult content?
    2. siralmo
      yes

Benspak: i think it would have to be relevant
  21. benspak
@siralmo so say I found nerdy looking girls, girls with glasses, and girls posing with video game consoles, sound like something that might interest you and be relevant?
    1. siralmo
hahahaha you havent read my stuff have you??? it has to be relevant to what you are talking about...
  22. papuj
no, i wouldn't. some seo tools don't like sites with adult content, so it's better not to put adult content.

    the-daily-light.blogspot.com
    1. benspak
Hmm good point, thanks for the tip : )
  23. janeeniegranniebeb
Ask me when I grow up...

joking aside, no I wouldn't, no moralizing here :-) it's hard to put it in those terms, "my" blog, if you ask if you should, well, I knew someone that created an "adult" site on a shoestring and never made a dime. I personally am against it. That said, I have also been down and out and desperate, which I have no idea if you are, but there is definitely a lot of gray area here.

For myself it would have to be a desperate measure, if I ever made that choice.

This is the difficulty of gray areas, and I pretty much live in them.

No easy answer. Good Luck to you whatever your next move.
    1. benspak
Thank you ^_^ It's something I've always been interested in, I've talked to several web masters about affiliate programs, providing content, and other ways to make an income.

I suppose more or less the question really comes down to personal beliefs, I personally have no problem with adult things, no matter what they be. I am wholeheartedly against some of the practices of the adult industry, but you have to take the good with the bad in anything in life.

One thing is for certain though I've learned more about being an all around web master and SEO in a couple of days than I have in the past two months. Even if you don't agree with the adult industry, there is something to be learned by studying their online promotion and traffic trading practices.
  24. Nomadic
Apart from porn, I don't visit any adult sites
    1. sexymomlive
Woah, you are pretty selective then.
  25. wehireu
Because adult content for the most part has little relevance to what I am writing about, I would not include adult content. The only adult content I might post about would be very literary in nature maybe Charles Bukowski, Anais Nin, Henry Miller, or literary erotica but that is not very likely.
  26. MASTEROMOTAYO
i will never and ever do that to my site .......dont do it no matter how tempting it maybe tinyurl.com/4jyk3g
  27. Sebastyne
I would have two separate blogs, and I could possibly link the "normal" blog from my adult content one but not the other way around. Even though those two go hand in hand in our personal life, a majority of people who read you don't want to know about your "adult preferences" and at the same time, people who are interested in those things, are not probably that interested in you as a person with opinions. So as much as it sucks, I would keep them separate.
  28. mongo22
No way, it would decrease credibility and the reputation of my site. Regardless of the money, I'd say no.
    1. benspak
Good Resources : ) Nice site
  29. ceo08
I would prefer to keep mine PG-13. I don't think I would ever add "adult" content even with a promise for money.
  30. LynneaUrania
Not on the blog I have, at least. That would defeat the purpose for my blog being there.
  31. Bonnielicious
Definitely but in a mocking or humorous way.
    1. benspak
      lol that's doable
  32. KittyKat53
I have 4 blogs and one is about sex tips and techniques.
I try to make it fun and educational...and separate from my other blogs.
    sexforblondes.blogspot.com/
    1. LynneaUrania
      That's a fun blog, Kitty.
  33. sexymomlive
Adult content is a topic which I have been thinking about too when I started my blog, SexyMomLive.

The title of my blog has sexual connotations but I made a conscious decision to avoid porn.

The porn industry is actually very competitive and 10,000 hits a day for the average sites is nothing to crow about. Yet these sites are still having a hard time attracting advertisers.

It is a different ball game and it may attract a lot more spam, viruses, spyware, etc. There are little clear benefits and it may even turn off your existing readers.

    sexymomlive.com
  34. lnclark1950
No, if I want to create income I would rather do so by providing a link to sites that provide products that benefit people. I do write about adult issues that men face.
  35. Abby2008
I think the biggest trend in adult blogs are fetish-focused. I'm not above adult content but only if I can come up with a meaningful fresh topic. If not for readers, just for my own sake so I don't have to throw up in my mouth a little every time I attempt to update another pointless photo of stretched gaping cavities in my blog-o-porno.
  36. SweetViolet
If, by adult content, you mean entries that deal with sex in matter-of-fact, non-exploitive and/or humourous ways, sure.

But if you mean pictures of women in scanty attire and seductive poses...objectifying women...then, no. And if I come to your blog and see that, I won't come back. Ever.
  37. benspak
Well all I think I have finally made my decision! I will start an adult site. But no - I will not include porn on my existing sites. While nerdious.com already posses subjects about adult topics, it is merely sex advice not porn.

I'm going to try my hand at being an adult web master. After a couple days of research I have come to the conclusion that their is sill alot to learn and the knowledge I gain will defiantly help me promote my normal blogs. I may talk about adult affiliate programs and niche sites in the future on internetbusinessboy.com because it is a site that pertains to my adventure of making money online. However the blogging will be tasteful and not include "graphic" content.

Thank you all for your opinions, it seems like only one or two were interested in my Idea, and as promised I'll be in contact when I get the new site up and running.

Oh and if anyone is interested in starting an adult site feel free to PM me and I'll point you in the right direction for resources and answer any questions I can ^_^
  38. acousticguitarist
but really Red Panda porn is a silly idea
    1. bettieblogger
Why, they need luvin too ya know
  39. lightzoldiac
As much as I am trying all the things to increase my traffic, adding adult content was never in my options. Why? Because i am still a kid! And I think if I add those content, I wont be credible enough. I may say that you should know the policies first. Adding adult contents will somehow limit your blogging experience. Make a pros and cons chart then experiment, then know which worked better. ^_^
    happy blogging!
    ezinemax.com
    1. benspak
      Yep I did ^_^
    2. lightzoldiac
      So, was it better?
  40. GabrielGadfly
I don't see why not, so long as it's relevant to the topic I'm covering. I don't know that I'd do it purely for income purposes, though.
  41. thenoenkz
Why don't you ask: will us keep to visit the adult blog/website?
I will not put any adult content, in a meaning, pornography or others...although sometimes I visit them (you don't?). This is a really big question, I think...
    1. benspak
lol "would you visit a site with adult content along side normal content?" yeah I asked that one and very few actually decided to respond to it. I appreciate the comment : )
  42. praning5254
it depends. if it is informative, why not?
  43. jonrs
I wont do that just to attract readers or to make money. but ill post adult content(information)if i have a good idea about it.
    1. benspak
      Yup Yup
  44. kush86
I would have to say follow your heart. It's all about what you want on your blog. Readers or no readers. Even though adding adult stuff will bring a lot more traffic with the right keywords and phrases.
    1. benspak
      Exactly
  45. dmobile215
Yes I know one thing I will be there to see, lol

The way this blog is being maintained I don't find anything wrong. So no adult content, but sexy images will cause no harm. This blog is even PR2 blog. So no problem in using sexy images. At least I think sexy images works just like the "refresh button". hi hi hi .. Thanks..

Our blog has an adult content. Because it features Tanta and kama sutra topics. Also with relationships advice and sexuality.

    have a visit. askaboutloveandsex.com

Adult content can harm your site. Just provide good quality content and do enough keyword research about any topic you want to add to your site. Do it right and you will make money online. Your site looks good, so start marketing it on other sites with the right keywords and you will profit online...

    Good Luck!

No. Even though minors can't vote, they still should know that the Obama administration wants to put them in work camp

My sites just aren't made for adult content. Not that I have anything against it, I would just rather visit adult sites than create them.
