Discussions

I've had quite a few discussions with people regarding the matter. Would you ever do nude modeling?

I'm Spanish and was raised in a very european household where pretty much the idea was, "God gave you this body, you should love him for it." I was taught to never be ashamed of my body, but to love and appreciate its beauty. I now have gotten into nude modeling with a friend photographer of mine. I think it's fun, and think the work he does is absolutely amazing. To me, the human body is just as beautiful as a setting sun. However, I've had people come up to me and tell me that what I'm doing is porn. But it's not. I've been accused of sleeping with my photographer, too. We're good friends, and though he's seen me naked, we've never even touched each other "like that".

What's your opinion? Is artistic nude just porno? If you think so, why?
Would you ever model nude?

I would never nude model myself but I was approached by a woman when I was in college who wanted to make a sculpture based on me. I was almost going to do it until she told her friend and she came over and felt me up and then told her she wanted to be there when I was modeling. I felt REAL weird about it.

Porn is in the eye of the beholder. I know guys that used to stash National Geographic magazines under their beds.
  2. Dovasary
That's true. I just don't think that it should necessarily be labeled as porn.

And some people do take it wierdly. Some of my friends at school keep up with my friend's site where my pictures are posted. And it's retarded, because it's art to me and they're like, "LOL TITTIES :D"
  3. aningeniousname
Yes I have and continue to do so, my last project was a scale model of Oprah Winfrey which I built from cigarette ends and toe nail clippings.
    1. Dovasary
lol. Now THAT would be entertaining to see
    2. dlowe
"cigarette ends and toe nail clippings"
      Gross! LOL!!!
  4. calais50
To me, it's sleazy and not anything I would consider.
    1. Dovasary
Why's it sleazy? I get this all the time and don't understand it. I'm not doing it for sexual pleasure, pornography, or even getting aroused. It's the same as listening to the ocean etc.
    2. calais50
You are from a different culture. Europe has nude beaches. Being nude in public is out of the ordinary here and nudity is usually reserved for sexual partners, so thus the association between nudity and sex.
    3. Dovasary
Suppose I could see this. Doesn't make sense that we can show the inside of a girl's chest cavity on public daytime TV, but bewbs are evil :\
  5. polybore
Cash is good but it is very very boring.
    1. Dovasary
depends who you do it with. throw some music on and have a party XD
  6. braincatcher
If you know what "art" is, you wouldn't say its porn. But I won't do it. It would be abstract cubism if I did. If I'm blessed with a Greek godly figure, why not.
  7. flamingpoodle
If the money is good, yes I'd do it. And if my mom doesn't go to the exhibition.
  8. pumpkinlights
I have before and perhaps would again.

I notice another reply said it was sleezy. I was curious about that. Nude does not equal porn.
    1. Dovasary
Aparantley americans can't understand that, from what I hear.

What I wonder, though, is that the vast majority of americans are all about God, his wonders, and appreciating what he gives you. Well if we're supposed to appreciate all of God's gifts, why do we have to be ashamed of the most important one that he gave us?
    2. flamingpoodle
Sleazy? No, it isn't. I had art at school and we drew nudes. It's not sleazy at all. I imagine nude photography is similar.
    3. Dovasary
      That's what I thought. I love nekkidness. It's gorgeous
    4. calais50
I wouldn't see it as sleazy if someone were painting or sculpting a nude using a model, or even a legitimate artist taking photos for an exhibition. Any other situation seems iffy to me. Oh, btw i'm not religious.
    5. dlowe
@Dovasary That is generalizing. From what I see most Europeans are none Christians that believe all Americans are gun toting, toothless, fundamental Christians that are not as sophisticated as them and are not worth the snot that they spit on the American flag.

See, that generalization is not nice.

I have no problem with it and I don't think it is sleazy. I do think modesty is a virtue I'd like to see in my children though.
    6. Dovasary
@dlowe: most europeans are non-christians is a stereotype? I know a lot of the stereotypes, but this isn't one. The population of Ireland is 85% Catholic, 15% really catholic. Same with Spain and Italy and..most countries. Hell, we've got Opus Dei O__O
    7. dlowe
Just throwing some false genraliztions out there. You know:

"Aparantley americans can't understand that, from what I hear.

What I wonder, though, is that the vast majority of americans are all about God, his wonders, and appreciating what he gives you. Well if we're supposed to appreciate all of God's gifts, why do we have to be ashamed of the most important one that he gave us?"

I just get tired of the American bashing.

I use to Model years ago for a few Modeling Agencies in New York, Boston
and Modeled the runway in Paris.
I was offered lots of money to Model but some of my Model friends are into drugs
and I pulled out of the game.
If you are going to do nude modeling, try to milk it for as much cash as you can
as you never know where those pics will end up.
I did do some tasteful nude modeling with a trusted professional photographer
and I have those pics and some of the negatives in my possession and so does he
but in order for him to use them a "Model's release" has to be signed and I never signed one
and if my Agencies and I catch him using them, he will be sued big time.
The good thing about a reputable Modeling agencies is even if you are no longer with the Agency
and they find out the photographer is using your pics without permission and they are getting a cut, they will track both him and me down and find ways for the photographer to pay up
or else we will both consider a lawsuit and trust me any working photographer
    doesn't want to get sued.
    1. Dovasary
I don't do it for money, really [yet anyways]. My friend is trying to build up his portfolio, and I wouldn't mind building mine so that I can go out and explore with more photographers. (my userpic is actually a photo taken by him )

I know I'm not the greatest looking gal in the world, but I think I'm cute enough for some fun photography
    2. Jeunelle
Who says you have to be the most beautiful? lmao

The quickest way to build a good portfolio is to find reputable agencies in your area
and join one. Barbizon and Robert Powers is not a Modeling Agency.

Look in your local phone book under Modeling Agencies for a list of Agencies.
Pay no money to join as that is a sign they are not reputable.

You may have to pay some good photographers to help build your portfolio
to take some good photographs of you but in most cases it isn't necessary if you start to get decent tear sheets or work or the Agency is sending you on Model's Assignments,
also known as what the Agencies call "Go See's".
Go see if you can get this job is what that term means.

I wish you luck but I wouldn't do too many nudes unless he is a working photographer
or a working artist, there are just too many weirdo's out there in the Modeling business.
    3. Dovasary
nah I'm not worried about him being a wierdo. He's been a very very close friend of mine for years, and we mutually made this decision.
    4. Jeunelle
If he's trusted that is good. I meant lending your skills out to too many people
who are not working or professional Photographers.
I personally know a lot of College girls who answer Ads in the Newspaper to Model for what they believe is a Photographer. Turns out they are just horny old men who want to see some fresh meat, so beware people who happen to read this comment. They are out there.
Any good reputable Agency will warn you of all this crap.

This is an example of what can happen to your nude photo's.
You work is there for anyone to download and upload
that is not what your pictures should be doing, you and your work has to be protected.

Also is it me, or did Brigitte Neilsen's boobs increase in size several times?
  12. Sylvia
I model in the nude every night for my hubby.

I call it undressing and showering, he calls it nude modeling...men
    1. dlowe
LOL!! Like I said before, porn is in the eye of the beholder.
    2. Dovasary
My boyfriend watches me undress. Like, he'll just stand in the doorway, lol.
    3. boytrotters
My wife is never impressed whenever I disrobe... sigh.
  13. Jeunelle
@Dovasary...So I use to watch me undress in the doorway too
and one of my favorite flowers is a Narcissus. lmao
  14. JaneQCitizen
I have and would, again -- until gravity takes it toll
  15. latinocool79
why bring more pain to the world
  16. whatweneed33
I would totally do it. As long as I gave up my lifelong dream of becoming Miss America, that is. :-)

But seriously, I would do it for an art class or something. I have no problem with Playboy, either, although I'm pretty sure they won't be calling me anytime soon.

For the record, I'm nearly 40, am comfortable with my body for about the first time ever, consider myself a feminist, but did pageants too. I'm a conundrum! LOL!
  17. 4dstriker
I would but nobody would be interested, rofl.
  18. bloggernoob
i would if i had a bigger package. and if i looked like Brad Pitt in "fight club"
    1. Dovasary
      Mmmmmmm
  19. Aprincess4ever83
I think if done correctly it's beautiful. I, however, could never model in the buff for fear that my mafia father would break someone's knee caps =)
  20. bloggernoob
i would be self conscious of my littlenoob making an entrance. u see, i'm easily excitable. i guess that would cross the line of high art to porn. I have yet to see a boner on classical works of nude art.
  21. Dovasary
Because sexual arousal is considered porn. Devart won't allow nude art that depicts physical arousal, penetration, or masturbation (aka touching your genitals, etc)
  22. bloggernoob
that's just silly. when i was a teen. i would get aroused watching slasher flicks cause of the boob scenes. porn and sexual arousal doesn't have to be inter related. in college i watched a johnston and johnston documentary about female masturbation. it was supposed to be scientific. but edit it a different way and it could be turned into contemporary art. put a different lens on it and it could be a sex ed video. put some bad seventies music in it and it's porn.
  23. Dovasary
It's the fine line between art and porn. That's where devart decided to draw it, partially because there's a lot of children on there.
  24. kdawg68
I wouldn't pose for it (no one needs to see that nonsense), but I'd have no problem doing the photography.
  25. thefly
Do nude modeling? Im just too pretty to keep this to myself but no I dont think I would. I arrange nude meetings in my bed though.
    1. Dovasary
      Me too!
    2. thefly
maybe next time I arrange a nude meeting in my bed Ill grab my camera and take some pics. Does that count? haha.

      buzz buzz
  26. Ivyology
I would definitely do nude modelling! I think I have the same philosophy as you - the body is a beautiful thing, a piece of art in its own right
  27. cooper
    yes, of course.
  28. janeycatte
Porn vs art is definitely in the eye of the beholder.

There was recently an exhibit of nude photography in Sydney that the police closed down because some of the pics were of children.

All the arty types came out of the woodwork, including hollywood~types and policitians. They said it wasn't porn and in the end the police were unable to do anything about it.

However, the fact remains that these pics are now "out there" and not everyone will view them the same way.

Regardless of the intention of the photographer and subjects (and their parents), there are predators who will manage to view these photographs as soft porn and get a kick out of them.

Adult nudity is up to the individual, however child nudity is something with ramifications that a child just can't understand.

Apologies for the rant, the child issue has been bugging me for ages.
    1. Dovasary
Well, I have guys hitting on me at work and telling me crude things WHILE my clothes are on. They've told me repeatedly that seeing me in a bikini is pleasurable. So they're getting a kick out of me clothed, and have since I was a child.

In Spain children normally don't wear bathing suits until they're teens and start to develop because we view them as just that...children. Predators are going to look at them the same in a bikini or naked. I've gotten more sexually bigoted crap from guys clothed than I have nude. I say that as long as no one is going up to the child and molesting them, it doesn't really matter. I've seen guys masturbate over pictures of people clothed or unclothed. So who's to argue what should and should not be done?

I don't believe in shielding my children from sex. Molestation, yes. But I don't really care about pedophiles so long as they're not hurting anyone. They can't help their desires just as I can't help my desires for european and white men. It's how I'm built. But so long as I'm not raping any (could I rape a full grown man? Hummm) then I don't see the issue.
  29. danielpyle
Sure why not....if it pays all my bills for a year in one shot I am in....
  30. PetLvr
Would I ever do nude modelling?

Well .. not intentionally - but, you never know who's lurking and peaking in the windows with a camera .. that's just one of the perks *cough* I mean risks that happens when you work out of your home and in your birthday suit.

Sometimes you get a cup of coffee, let the dogs out .. and the paparratzi are taking my nude photos and selling them to gawd knows who~
    1. Dovasary
You take the dogs out naked? how risque
    2. PetLvr
I don't TAKE the dogs out naked .. just LET them out if they want to go out - to our backyard. But, my wife opens the curtains of the front room where I have to walk by .. you know "to let light in" or something to do about the plants
    3. Sylvia
      you silly man
  31. tom256
if i have the criteria why nt?
  32. JacobDiv
I receive numerous requests for my nude body, regarding artwork and other interest areas. Pay is lousy, but the benefits make up for it.

    In my dreams...

In all seriousness, the only 'artist' interested in my nude body would be an overzealous pathologist.

Now, in the day, that potentially could have been another story.
  33. mizhelena
no i dont think so.. porn is the exploitation of bodies and nude photography is the opposite.. when done in a tasteful way i think many ppl can learn to appreciate this form of beauty..
    1. JacobDiv
anyone who can't see that needs an exorcism.
  34. chispeak
I have no problem with nude modeling as long as it's tasteful and meant for artistic purposes.

It's only pornography when the poses and medium are not meant to capture the beauty of the human form, but to sexually arouse and gratify others. There are nude sculptures and paintings in every reputable museum and models are hired for art students to learn from, so I find nothing wrong with it.
  35. JaydenVasara
i'm a model by day (And sometimes night depending on what kind of shot the photog wants) - and i've seen plenty of nude shots done beautifullly. such that it's not lewd, it's artistic and beautiful. but for each of those there are a thousand pornographic pictures people try to pass off as art. personally, i've done lots of implied but i won't do straight up nude primarily out of respect for my family and how i was raised. but i love looking at it when it's well done.

some of my new modeling pics are up actually:
    blondeconfession.blogspot.com/2008/10/results-of-hurricane-pics-from-set.ht...
  36. drjay1966
If I thought anybody'd want to pay to see pictures of me nude, I might consider it.

Alas, that's just not the case....
  37. darko139
I am a photographer of nude and I am sure that it's important to be photograhed looking and thinking only to the beauty and then is not porno .For me porno is not to be nude and to do a nude photo because every part of the body is part of the univers and nude = Body and Soul.
Eros is Love, Porno is when someone look and think to the nude body only as sex and think to sex as a dirty thing and the model in that moment think to be too a dirty person .
  38. melindaville
I have done nude modeling. I was in a layout for the rag, Leg World, in the 1980's.

I was also an exotic dancer for several years.
  39. timethief
I began nude modeling in college for artists and fine art photographers. I decided to let it go when I reached 50, but I still occasionally model for for life drawing classes.
  40. owlbarn
It would depend on why I am doing it? Who is the artist? etc.

    >>I've had people come up to me and tell me that what I'm doing is porn
It depends in which culture and environment one has grown up in.
There are many cultures in the world where nude modeling is considered porn.
  41. Funkkeejooce
Yes, for the sake of art. I have no problems stripping down and I don't care if people see my white marks.
  42. nothingprofound
I have no interest in it though I think it's fine. I think the word pornography, used pejoratively, is a meaningless concept, anyway. It's a throwback to Puritanism. There's nothing wrong with any display or depiction of the human body or two consenting adults having sex.
    1. darko139
I am really agree with you !!!
  43. amybyrd21
Yes I would in a heart beat. I am a nudist by nature and have no problem with nudity.
  44. anthony9910
No way, i'm too shy! and i never really thought on doing that
  45. silentassasin
    yes,yes,yes,im hung like ron jeremy
    1. jafabrit
Hate to break it to you but genitals are the least interesting part to draw, no challenge you see.
  46. aspotofblog
Yes, as long as it's for art.
  47. idealpinkrose
Nope, I'm a shy type person so I can't do it. I'm even shy of the camera so I can't stay longer with it.
