I must admit I have never had to do this, although I've helped people in dangerous situations but none that I would consider life-threatening.
Would you risk your life?

It would depend on the person and the circumstances for me. I did jump in front of a moving car once to get my younger brother... and I'd step in front of a bullet for any of my siblings. But say the bank robbery goes down when I am in line next to Ann Coulter? hmmm, sorry, but I think I'd use her as a shield

Just FYI - most police stations and fire stations/rescue places hold hostility for each other.
They seem to get in the way of each other.
Just so you are aware of it - it is VERY rare to see a firefighter cop.
I've seen 3 in my entire profession...
Not normal - a lot of it has to do with politics and funding. But some of it comes from the firefighters need to rescue and a cop's need to arrest, protect the scene of a crime and preserve evidence... They don't always mix. -
And don't... don't... don't... become a cop.
Seriously.
I've seen good people turn sour and into EVIL people because of all the bureaucracy and BS. I've seen some EVIL cops - that were once really nice guys. I've seen planted evidence where everyone looked the other way.
Don't become a cop. You'll NEVER be able to have a family... cause a Cop Marries his/her job. It NEVER ends.
