Would you sacrifice your Writer's Ego ?

Someone complained on a forum he did write articles that was accepted in many offline magazine but they always ask to do it for free in exchange of publicity. He would like to live from his writings and get paid.
Another answered he was making a living from it but he had to sacrifice his ego and write for others.
So do you have a big ego or are you willing to put it aside and write for others if you could make a living of it ?

I don't write for a living and have to put my ego asside on an hourly basis. I don't see the difference between working and getting paid to write stuff you don't want to write about.
